Revisiting A Meme

Sep 07, 2018 11:26

For the last couple of years I've done an AO3 meme, so I thought I'd repeat it this year and see if there were any changes.  Figures for 2017 and 2016 are in brackets.  I'm a month later than last year, but it won't make a great deal of difference overall.  Total works this year = 692 [543, 400] so a steady increase.  This year I've also written a lot of drabbles which in general are only posted to the relevant comm.

What's your first and second most common work rating?
General: 430 [320, 223]
Teen & Up: 259 [217, 171]
I am consistent if nothing else.

How many fics have you written in each relationship category?
Gen: 346 [264, 191]
M/M: 315 [247, 181]
F/M: 33 [30, 25]
Other: 3 [2, 2]
F/F: 1 [1, 0]
Slightly more Gen this year, but some of these are undoubtedly Holmes & Watson where they could easily be in a relationship, but for the purpose of the fic this is irrelevant.  The additional other is Rudybago's cousin, Harbidrwbln, (a many-tentacled alien, gender not yet fully understood) and Ensign Walters: The Happy Couple

What are your top four fandoms by number?
Sherlock (BBC): 192 [176, 156]
Sherlock Holmes (ACD): 173 [121, 79]
Spooks: 87 [60, 32]
Lewis: 54 [48,45]
Once more I've written considerably more ACD Holmes than BBC Sherlock, and it looks as though ACD will overtake in the coming year.  I've also written more Spooks than Sherlock, probably because of my relationship likes within the fandoms.  The slight upsurge in Lewis is because both Lewis Challenge Summer Challenges are caught in this number.  I also wrote the next part of Oxford Tales.

Who are your top six characters?
Sherlock Holmes: 290 [234, 184]
John Watson: 267 [217,167]
(Greg) Lestrade: 187 [172, 147]
Lucas North: 85 [59, ?]
Stanley Hopkins: 76 [61, ?]
Mrs Hudson: 75 [60, 49]
The figures are distorted, because all but Lucas are two distinct characters in two distinct fandoms.  Still basically consistent, although I write very little BBC Greg now, and rather more Lucas.

And top six relationships?
Adam Carter/Lucas North: 51 [29, ?]
Sherlock Holmes/John Watson: 47 [37, 25]
Sherlock Holmes/Stanley Hopkins: 34 [28, 18]
John Watson/(Greg) Lestrade: 33 [32, 32]
Guy of Gisborne/Much: 25 [20, ?]
Bilbo Baggins/Thorin Oakenshield: 23 [?, ?]
This was unexpected!  Although it does make sense, when I'm writing Lucas/Adam it generally involves their relationship to a greater or lesser degree.  Holmes/Watson is entirely ACD, and therefore an accurate representation.  As I said above, there will be cases where they may be together but it doesn't arise.  Sussex Retirement however is always Holmes/Watson.  Sherlock/Stanley on the other hand will mostly be BBC, where Stanley is an Inspector in the Met River Police.  (The exceptions will be ACD Broom Cupboard 'verse).  This year's new entry is Bagginshield, which is always my most kudosed pairing.

How many WIPs do you have currently on AO3?  Any you don't plan on finishing?
Currently four: More Ferret Tales (which is hanging over from 2017, which I do need to get on with), The House on St James Street (an ACD fic, not a serial as such but could do with some more chapters), Rudybago (Star Trek, a collection of as and when ficlets), Handcuffs (the continuing problems of Tigger and a pair of furry handcuffs, again ficlets).
In addition I have 12 series which are open.  Mostly they are just a collection of fics.  Of the two which aren't 'Through The Year' is a year of Lucas/Adam fics working through the main holidays.  I plan to finish this around the end of this year.  The other 'Beresford & Drake' really needs me to get back to.
