Well, it's been an interesting couple of months. One of the best things, of course, is that I now have a complete catalogue of my manga collection. Out of sheer boredom, I'm going to post it up in non-alphabetical order.
Name: Records of Lodoss War: The Grey Witch (CPM)
Volumes: 3/3
Review: I love these books. Interestingly, I loathed the television series. But the original manga! Characters with depth and skillful scenery, the building of an entire world. The relationship between Deedlit and Parn, which I never liked at all in the anime, is here done completely differently, always left to the reader's imagination, with only hints given, and those hints being deep and powerful. A criticism would be the art, which is, yes, a little grainy. But all-in-all a magnificent piece. I look forward to picking up the other RLW series next time I am in New York.
Name: Boys: BE (Tokyopop)
Volumes: 1/? (Second issue is not, to my knowledge, out at this moment.)
Review: Some of these stories scrape across a scab wound in my heart. I hated A Toast to a Regretable Night and Steamy Dangerous Night both. They annoyed me to no end, and partly disturbed me. In the case of the last one, I must stress that this is not because of the age difference, because I'm really not that much of a hypocrite (and if you want to know what that means, you'll need to ask me.) However, the idea of taking advantage of impaired people in such a way disgusts my unfortunate sense of honour.
Love, Piercings and Judo and High Heel Complex stand out as my favourites in the collection, though LPJ strikes me as a little contrived in the ending. Forbidden Cosplay was a bit, to be frank, dull. An interesting effort, but the artstyle is beautiful. I look forward to adding #2 to my collection.
Name: Suikoden III (Tokyopop)
Volumes: 5/5 (soon to be 6/6)
Review: An interesting series. I've always been an RPG fanboy, as many people know. And I've always preferred Konami's Suikoden to Final Fantasy (alas, both of them are now on the PS2 :( ). The problem is that in a manga, what is a good and powerful game seems a little tired and dull. The artwork is good, the characters are interesting, and I keep buying them, but I'm not entirely satisfied. Still, Nash Clovis is always a wonderful addition to anything, manga, cakes, and anime alike. ^^
Soon to come: Rebirth, Ranma 1/2, Priest, Futaba-kun Change, Wish and the Gundams
Back to me... I'm currently in the process of negotiating my first story sale. The story is Starlit Walk, and if it gets through then I'll take it and post it up here. Also, for those of you who read my FP story, Avenues of Destiny, two more chapters are currently up.
That's all from the lair, au re voire for now!
