I'm joining the club and doing this one, because I'm horribly bored, and I just feel like doing something that will waste a couple of hours of my life, so here it is.
Rules:
(1) List 10 ONE TRUE PAIRINGS that you admire. (I cheated with the honourable mentions, but whatever, just ten is soooo hard).
(2) Put all of them in order (10-1, 1 is the ultimate OTP).
(3) Supply photos for said people.
(4) Post your favourite quote.
(5) Tag 5 people.
Honourable mentions:
Naomi/Emily : Skins 3
Naomi: Let's just be friends... ok?
Emily: We say that don't we?
Naomi: Yeah... Have a good summmer.
(Naomi turns and starts walking away)
Emily: (shrugs) I'll miss you.
(Naomi stops, takes deep breath, turns and ealks back to Emily quickly, pushes her aganist the locker and kisses her)
Naomi: (in between kisses) I can't stand it, I can't.
Brooke/Lucas : One Tree Hill
Brooke: There are 82 letters in here, and they're all addressed to you. I wrote them all this summer. One a day, but I never sent them 'cause I was afraid.
Lucas Scott: Brooke...
Brooke: I was afraid of getting my heart broken again, like before. 'Cause you hurt me so bad, and I was afraid to be vulnerable. And I was afraid of you and the way that you make me feel. And I know that doesn't matter now after what I did, but I just thought that you should know. This was how I spent my summer, Luke, wanting you... I'm just too scared to admitt it.
Lucas Scott: Brooke! I'm sorry! What you did with Chris... it's okay.
Brooke: It's not. It can't be. It's too much to forgive!
Lucas Scott: Well, that's too bad because I forgive you.
Brooke: You can't!
Lucas Scott: I just did. So you're gonna just have to deal with it. I'm the guy for you Brooke Davis, and I know I hurt you last time we're together, but...
Brooke: I love you.
Lucas Scott: I love you too... pretty girl.
Pacey/Joey - Dawson's Creek
JOEY: "This morning. Your arm brushed up against me in bed and I felt it."
PACEY: "How did it feel?"
JOEY: "It made me feel alive."
PACEY: "Okay. Joey, I'm going to kiss you now."
JOEY: "You can't!"
PACEY: "Look, Jo, you can't say something like that and expect me not to kis you, so that's exactly what I'm going to do. I'm gonna kiss ya, in about ten seconds, and if you don't want me to kiss you, well, if you don't want me to, I guess then you're just gonna have to stop me. Ten. (he kisses her)"
10. Jacob/Bella (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse)
"But I would have been healthier for you. Not a drug; I would have been the air, the sun."
The corner of my mouth turned up in a wistful half-smile. "I used to think of you that way, you know. Like the sun. My personal sun. You balanced out the clouds nicely for me."
He sighed. "The clouds I can handle. But I can't fight with an eclipse."
- Eclipse
This ship just seemed like the most natural thing to me, there was nothing forced about it, even when most of the world they live in is really forced.
He's her best friend, and thats what love should be like. I guess even when I rant and rave about how horrid this series is now, I'm still secretly jealous of what they have, even if Bella is a stupid fool. When they're together, I don't mind so much, because they just work together in a way that leaves you longing.
9. Sookie/Eric (The Southern Vampire Mysteries)
“I can’t believe I - “ - Eric
“Yeah, yeah, I know, loved a mere human,
made all those promises, was as sweet as pie
and wanted to stay with me forever,” - Sookie
“I can’t believe I felt something so strongly
and was so happy for the first time
in hundreds of years, give me some credit for that, too.” - Eric
~ From Dead to Worse
Sookie and Eric are just amazing to read. They're both stubborn and frustrating, but it works really well.
Neither of them really want to give in to the other one because of the power that they'll lose, and I like that. They bicker constantly, but you can just tell that Eric, in his hot brooding way, loves Sookie more than he has ever cared for anyone before. She makes him feel almost alive again.
Yeah, THIS is how a vampire/human relationship is done.
8. Susan/Caspian (The Chronicles of Narnia)
Prince Caspian: Maybe it's time you had this back.
Susan Pevensie: Why don't you hold on to it - you might need to call me again.
Lucy Pevensie: "You might need to call me again"?
Susan Pevensie: Oh, shut up.
Susan and Caspian are beautiful because they're awkward, and real, even though they're royalty.
It's such a good portrayal of a first romance that I forget that its not really canon, (and forgive it as well), and anyway, fanon is just better anyway. I just love how heartbreaking it is that they'll be forever kept apart by Aslan's rules, and also the whole time difference thing that means he could be dead before she has her next birthday. Uhm, yeah, I'm tragic like that.
7. Draco/Ginny (Harry Potter AU)
I've been searching for a while now for a quote from a fanfiction which explains exactly why these two are the most epic ever, but I can't find one that does them justice. I know they only exist within the heads and hearts of those that ship them, but man oh man, they are just perfect. In my head, draco is snarky and beautiful, and ginny doesn't take his shit. He loves her, and she teases him, and it just works, and they're doomed from the start but thats what makes it perfect, you know? She is fire and he is ice, and no matter how cliche it ends up sounding, it just isn't, because there is so much angst there, and thats what makes them beautiful.
It's funny that my one true fictional love, series wise ranks so low on the list, but I guess thats just how it goes sometimes.
6. Scarlett/Rhett (Gone With the Wind)
Rhett: Panic's a pretty sight, isn't it? We belong together, Scarlett. Let's get out of here together. No use staying here, letting the South come down around your ears. Too many nice places to go and visit. Mexico, London, Paris -
Scarlett: With you?
Rhett: Yes, ma'am. A man who understands you and admires you for just what you are. I figure we belong together, being the same sort. I've been waiting for you to grow up and get that sad-eyed Ashley Wilkes out of your heart....Are you going with me or are you getting out?
Scarlett: I hate and despise you, Rhett Butler. I'll hate and despise you till I die.
Rhett: [amused] Oh no you won't, Scarlett. Not that long.
Rhett and Scarlett are probably my first otp, and they will also probably be my last. She's so childish and stupid, and he's stubborn and arrogant, but he'll wait through almost anything for her. It's just the way he knows he will have her in the end, and the way he will stand on the sidelines and wait for that moment that makes it so beautiful.
I guess I kind of gravitate towards the hopeless romances, the ones that can be soul-destroying in how perfect they are, and how they never end up that way, and these two are the epitome of that. They don't just take their love for eachother, they have to fight for it, even when they don't know they're doing it, and I guess thats the part I like the most. It's no passive bullshit, this is hurt, and pain, and real emotion that makes you cry tears, and leap for joy, and leaves your soul aching.
5. Luke/Lorelai (Gilmore Girls)
Lorelai: Hey, do you remember the first time we met?
Luke: What?
Lorelai: I'm just trying to remember the first time we met. It must have been at Luke's, right?
Luke: [nods] It was at Luke's, it was at lunch, it was a very busy day, the place was packed, and this person...
Lorelai: Ooh, is it me? Is it me?
Luke: This person comes tearing into the place in a caffeine frenzy.
Lorelai: [happily] Ooh, it's me.
Luke: I was with a customer. She interrupts me, wild-eyed, begging for coffee, so I tell her to wait her turn. Then she starts following me around, talking a mile a minute, saying God knows what. So finally I turn to her, and I tell her she's being annoying - sit down, shut up, I'll get to her when I get to her.
Lorelai: Y'know, I bet she took that very well, 'cause she sounds just delightful.
Luke: She asked me what my birthday was. I wouldn't tell her. She wouldn't stop talking. I gave in. I told her my birthday. Then she opened up the newspaper to the horoscope page, wrote something down, tore it out, handed it to me.
Lorelai: God, seriously. You wrote the menu, didn't you?
Luke: So I'm looking at this piece of paper in my hand, and under Scorpio, she had written 'You will meet an annoying woman today. Give her coffee and she'll go away.' I gave her coffee.
Lorelai: [grins] But she didn't go away.
Luke: She told me to hold on to that horoscope, put it in my wallet, and carry it around with me -
[takes a piece of paper from his wallet and gives it to her]
Luke: one day it would bring me luck.
Lorelai: [teasing] Well, man, I will say anything for a cup of coffee
[reads it, grows serious]
Lorelai: Um... I can't believe you kept this. You kept this in your wallet?
[sees his face]
Lorelai: You kept this in your wallet.
Luke: Eight years.
Lorelai: [emotionally] Eight years.
This is the one couple I would have waited forever to see, because they just loved eachother. There's really no other way to describe it.
They were the one person that the other could always depend on, and they were so married even before they even dated. It's just something everyone knew was going to happen, as soon as Lorelai stopped looking everywhere else but at Luke, and as soon as Luke grew some balls. I could have chosen a million quotes, (and I spent a good hour looking at photos) because I just get so caught up in how amazing they are, and that seems pretty perfect to me.
4. Rory/Jess (Gilmore Girls)
Jess: I got the video for tonight.
Rory: What did you get?
Jess: Almost Famous.
Rory: No, not again!
Jess: I can't help it, I'm addicted!
Rory: Fine, but if I'm going to spend two hours sitting there watching Kate Hudson commit suicide again, then we are ordering Indian food.
Jess: Oh, come on!
Rory: Hey, last night when we watched Ed Wood, we got burgers like you wanted to.
Jess: Okay fine, tonight Indian food, but tomorrow Saturday Night Fever and Thai food.
Lane: That's so cute, you're like a really sweet old agoraphobic couple!
Jess: Thank you very much.
So, while Rory and Jess did spend a lot of their time with bold statements followed by fleeing from the scene, there was just something so amazingly right about them. And sure, it was bad boy converts the good girl, but it was so much more than that too, because he loved words, and books and her, and they complimented each other so well, and he turned out all right because of her, even if he didn't win her in the end. I still hope that when she said no to marrying Logan, she ended up with Jess.
I guess my one pet peeve with the series was that she chose to have sex with Dean, when they were so not right for eachother.
3. Booth/Brennan (Bones)
Booth: All right. What I want you to do is take off your glasses, shake out your hair, and say "Mr. Booth, do you know what the penalty is for an overdue book?"
Brennan: Why?
Booth: Nevermind.
--
Eli: Hey, are you two gonna make out?
Booth: Hey, quiet. You lost your right to talk.
Brennan: Why do people always think we're gonna make out?
--
Booth: [to Bones] I got it. I got it. Just relax. Just trust me, alright? I'll take care of you. Shhh, I got you. Breathe. I'll take care of you I'm right here. I'm not going anywhere. I got you baby.
So, I couldn't choose just one quote, because this pair is my current obsession, and everything about them is just amazing. He protects her and he loves her, and she loves him too, even if she doesn't really know what it means. They're opposites, and their bickering is hilarious, and thats why it just works, and it hurts to watch in the best way possible because I just want them to be together already, but I love the waiting, and the little glances, and long car rides, because this is love - the slow buildup, the knowledge that everything is okay as long as their there.
2. Chuck/Blair (Gossip Girl)
Blair: Last fall you said we couldn't be together, and I believed you. But everytime I try to move on, you're right there, acting like-
Chuck: Acting like what?
Blair: Like...maybe you want me to be as unhappy as you are.
Chuck: I would never wish that on anyone. I want you to be happy.
Blair: Then look down deep, into the soul I know you have, and tell me if what you feel for me is real, or if it's just a game. If it's real, we'll figure it out...all of us. But if it's not, then please Chuck, just let me go.
Chuck: It's just a game. I hate to lose. You're free to go.
Blair: Thank you.
Serena: Chuck, why did you just do that?
Chuck: Because I love her and I can't make her happy.
--
Blair: You can't run, you have to stay here and here it this time. Chuck Bass, I love you. I love you so much it consumes me. I love you and I know you love me too. Tell me you love me and everything we've done, all the gossip and the lies and the hurt will have been for something. Tell me it was for something.
Chuck: Maybe it was, but it's not anymore.
--
Chuck: I'm Chuck Bass. And I told you I love you. You're saying I'm easier to win over than a bunch of pseudo-intellectual homesick malcontents. You'd really insult me like this?
Blair: That's not how it is.
Chuck: That's exactly how it is. So the next time you forget you're Blair Waldorf, remember I'm Chuck Bass. And I love you.
Argh. Chuck and Blair are just one of those devastating couples. The chase that lasted so long made them what they are.
They are one and the same in so many ways, and that's what makes it so hard for them to give themselves to eachother. It's the power thing again.
But when they do, God, its beautiful. These two MAKE that show, with all their games and manipulations and hot, hot sex.
They've grown the most out of all the characters, and I'm glad they're finally together, because I know it will never be easy, but it will always be beautiful.
1. Chris/Cathy (Flowers in the Attic Saga)
"Angel, saint, Devil's spawn, good or evil, you've got me pinned to the wall and labeled as yours until the day I die. And if you die first, then it won't be long before I follow."
-Chris
There is probably something wrong with me, what with my ultimate otp being an incest couple, but, you know what, I'm not going to psycho-analyse myself, because Chris and Cathy are beautiful and heartbreaking and everything love is. They grow up together, they can't escape eachother and he loves her, no matter how horrible and selfish she is, or how far she strays. She can't escape him, no matter how hard she tries, and in the end she doesn't even want to, because a love like this should be lived, not feared.
So there we have it, I guess looking at this now, I'm drawn to the pairs that either hurt each other because they want nothing more than to escape eachother, or the pairings that develop so naturally and right, that there is just no denying how perfect they are for eachother.
Whatever, I like what I like, even if most of the time, I'm just in it for the angst.
