Rikku's Birthday [Closed to Winding Way]

Even though Aniki was gone, Rikku was still excited about her birthday. It wasn't every day you turned 18, after all. And when Sophie suggested a party, the blonde was all for it.

Hachibei had heard about the little celebration from the journals. He wasn't really invited nor did he really mingle much with the members of the crew. Then again, he was not much of a party boy and happened to be on the ship that loves it. Still, with his latest masterpiece finally done and the party being a little more mild - a birthday party was different from any other type, he assumed - he figured now was the best time he actually start to get to know the people he had been traveling with.

With a new sketchbook under his arm and a few pencils in his pockets, he figured the best type of gift was the type you make yourself.

"Happy Birthday, Miss Rikku!" He greeted cheerily. "I hope I didn't miss the party just yet!"

Rikku grinned as the artist approached her. "Nope! Fun's just getting started!" she informed him. "I haven't seen you around lately. Busy working on a new piece?"

"I just finished, actually!" Hachibei announced. "I'm really proud of it! Though, I still have plenty more to improve. I could show all of you later if you'd like but first -"

Hachibei took the sketchbook out and opened to its first, clean page. He then took a pencil from one of his pockets and placed his hands ready to sketch. "-it's time for me to give you your present. Will you will still for a bit?"

Grinning, Rikku sat down in one of the chairs. She was going to get drawn! "Anything I need to do, pose or something?"

"Just hold still in the position you would like to see yourself in. Although, an artist like me prefers to draw smiles over frowns!" And so, the boy took to work, already deciding on placement and where he wanted it. When he was sure that Rikku was already in her place, he started the sketch.

Rikku didn't move while Hachibei drew, already thinking she'd have to find a way to get copies of these and send one to Pops.

A few minutes into the drawing, and Rikku's leg started itching. "Hey, Hachibei, how much longer? My leg's starting to bug me," she said, moving her face as little as possible.

"DONE!" Hachibei said excitedly after putting the finishing touches on his latest work.

Immediately, he turned the sketchbook around, so that Rikku could see the fruits of both their labors. The sketch took up the whole sheet of paper, showing the complete pose Rikku had and shaded had a charcoal shading to it. Though simplistic, the sketch was elegant and captured exactly how Rikku looked. A photo couldn't look any better.

"You can move now. So, what do you think?"

Rikku scratched the itch before looking up. She gaped.

"Oh my god, it's amazing!" Bounding over, she wrapped Hachibei in a tight hug. "I love it!"

As Hachibei enjoyed the embrace, he also took a quick moment to make a check for parts. However, despite the close vicinity, there was nothing special on her. Although, it was nice to get a hug from a girl rather than a punch, like most others. Then again, this one didn't seem to have the parts he wanted. At least, none that he could see as of now.

"It's no problem, Rikku." Hachibei said, happy for the gratitude but not turned on whatsoever. "Though, if you like, I could make a sketch with you and Riku, too."

"Really?" Rikku stood back. "I'd have to ask him whenever he gets here, but I'd love that!"

"Well, when you see him, you can find me around. If both of you can post for a few minutes, I'd gladly make a sketch of both of you! Happy Birthday!"

He was about to leave and start talking with more of the guests when he saw the cats all together in one area. "C-Cats! Those are all the cats there, right?"

"Yeah, remember? Al's kittens have been multiplying like crazy," explained the blonde. "Why? Is something wrong?"

"No, I just wanted one at one point." Hachibei explained. "Until I heard the things they were doing to the kitchen. I figured too many cats would be too much for the ship. Besides, the captain already placed a cap on them. I would've liked to see a cat with blue eyes, though."

"Well, if I see one, I'll letcha know, alright?" It was the least she could do, after he'd drawn such a cool picture.

"Thank you, miss Rikku!" Hachibei said, heading his way to see the cats.
