Characters: Hijikata Toshirou (mayovice) and Kurosaki Hisoka (son_of_the_lake)
Content: Hisoka meets Hijikata in the Bydan forest.
Setting: The oldest, wildest part of the woods, northwest of the city.
Time: On the same day as this log, but later in the afternoon, after Hisoka has ditched or been ditched by Muraki, and has also managed to elude his father.
Warnings: Critters are present!--Lucied and a young pteralynx.
Hisoka made tracks away from the region of the crater left by the explosion of Muraki's lab more than seven years ago. He was not really worried (yes, he was) about being followed, but all the same, he jumped when he heard a branch crack, off to the side of the trail.
Then, he smiled as he recognized that the racket was caused by one of the pteralynx kittens. It was pacing him, peeking out between leaves ocasionally. Kitten is not really the right word. For one thing, it was six months old and certainly weaned. For another thing, it had already grown its wings. They stuck out on either side of its body, like an extra pair of stubby arms with two-foot-long, spiny fingers ending in claws. Between the spines was stretched the velvety skin that made up the sails of the wings--like those of a bat or of that legendary beast the pteradactyl. These wings were as yet too short to carry the creature very far, assuming it had figured out how to get off the ground at all.
But it was kittenlike in that its four feet were still oversized and clumsy, and the round, yellow-green eyes in its sable, furry face blinked at Hisoka in stern surprise each time it tripped over a root or accidentally snapped a branch back into its own face and had to fall down fast so as not to get hit.
Hisoka wiped a charcoal smudge from his cheek (left over from the burned wreckage at the bottom of the crater), and laughed. Then he turned around abruptly, listening intently to what sounded like another human tramping through the leaves some distance away...
