Content:  Jennifer is busy hiding out after the perfume fiasco and ends up having to talk to Ryuuki after having nearly sucked the lips off his face.  Awwwwwwkwwwwward.
Setting:  The deck of Serenity
Time:  Backdated to after the high as a kite post

Unlike Jennifer, there wasn't anything Ryuuki remembered of the whole incident that made him uncomfortable or tempted to avoid anyone.

And he remembered everything.

He stepped onto the deck and stretched. He couldn't wait until they landed. Then he spotted a familiar figure.

He cupped one hand around his mouth and waved with the other, "Jenny!"

Oh...oh dear lord. Ryuuki.

Jennifer turned and saw him, and thus stopped, waiting for him to catch up. To say she was apprehensive about speaking to him again was a minor description of what she was feeling.

"Hello Ryuuki." She said quietly, attempting to keep herself from blushing.

Half-jogging (while waving enthusiastically) it wasn't long before he caught up to her.

"Jenny!" He beamed at her, "I haven't seen you in a while." If he thought about it, he would realize that "in a while" was really, "since the whole being high as a kite incident".

He tilted his head and gazed at her worriedly.

"Are you still not feeling well?" His own headache was long gone by now, but maybe hers wasn't. That would explain why she was seemed kind of quiet.

"I am much better, thank you." She replied, managing a slight smile but still feeling uncomfortable. "How are you Ryuuki? Doing well?"

"I'm fine."

Ryuuki frowned. She didn't seem to be better.

"Are you sure you're better?" Stepping closer, he rested the back of one hand on her forehead and the other on his own. "Well, your temperature seems normal..."

"Yes Ryuuki, I am okay." She replied with a soft sigh.

"We should talk. I...apologize for my behavior. I did not mean to be so forward when we were all under the influence of the gasses from Rikku's experiments. Please forgive me."

Ryuuki gave her a look of incomprehension.

Jennifer was, rather unluckily, talking to someone who had slept with all the male household staff and as such had a very skewed idea of whether or not something was forward.

"Jenny? What are you talking about?"

"The..."

Jennifer sighed. Why was this so hard to talk about? She blushed again and looked away.

"The kiss, Ryuuki. I am so sorry I did that. I was not myself and I hope I did not make you feel uncomfortable."

"Oh." He said, though not in any way which suggested enlightenment.

Still she was obviously uncomfortable, so Ryuuki was quick to reassure her that everything was fine.

"It's all right! Really, Jenny. I get kissed by people all the time: it's not a big deal."

Though he probably could have chosen his words better.

"You get kissed all the time?"

Jennifer was not only confused, she had a feeling that she had just been insulted.

"What do you mean Ryuuki? Who kisses you all the time?"

Ryuuki, on the other hand, was starting to get the feeling that he had just said something wrong.

But...but...

No matter how he thought about it, he could not figure out what it was.

"...everyone?" He finally managed. Maybe...

Well, she had apologized for kissing him...so maybe...

"I haven't kissed anyone else since I lef--since I got on the Serenity though!" He exclaimed, trying desperately to explain thinking that maybe she was angry because he had been kissing people.

He paused.

Oh wait, there had been that guy, hadn't there? The one with the eye-patch.

"Oh Ryuuki..."

Jennifer shook her head slightly, not enjoying the fact that she was about to have to tell him this.

"Perhaps we should have a talk about appropriate behavior." She said quietly. "And then you might understand why I feel uncomfortable with my own actions, as unconscious as they were at the time."

Is she going to give him the "birds and bees" talk now?

He had still been busy wondering if he should confess to unwittingly lying about not having kissed anyone since coming on the ship when Jennifer's words snapped him out of his worries.

"Kissing...is inappropriate?"

Oh dear lord, it's necessary, isn't it?

"It is in certain circumstances."

Jennifer wanted to sigh and rub the bridge of her nose, to relieve the pressure building up there, but for now she would remain dignified if she truly had to do this. She had to wonder about who had raised Ryuuki, but that was a conversation for another time.

"It is an intimate act that should only be shared between people who are in love, and intend on entering into a monogomous relationship. Doing so just in fun, or even under the influence of some kind of drug is inappropriate."

Sort of...? Have fun with that! XD

Who raised him wasn't really the problem. The problem was that his parents had never really been in love.

"It is?"

Ryuuki was wearing a worried expression now, and not quite meeting Jennifer's eyes.

But if even kissing between two people not in love was inappropriate, then...

"It's something for married people, or those who intend to get married should do." She finished.

Jennifer took one of his hands in her own small ones, holding it gently. "Doing so might have led you to believe I had feelings for you that I do not. I care for you deeply Ryuuki, as a very dear friend. But my care for you is not romantic. I want you to understand that."
