Where was it?

Where was it!?

With the ghosts gone, Roxas could finally go looking for his missing diary. One of the ghosts had filched it, and Roxas lost track of it due to being scared out of his wits. Now he had to find it again before someone else did. What if somebody already had it? What if they read it!? It was bad enough when that ghost was reading it!

Roxas was quite obviously looking for something, checking every single nook and cranny of the navigation room. It was one of the places he had yet to check, deciding to wait before it was empty and he had the place to himself. Surely, no one would come in, right?

"Huh? What's this?"

Behind some of the maps, he found a doll. Funny, that wasn't there before. Studying it, Roxas figured it was handmade or something, since it didn't look like something you'd find in a store. He turned it around in his hands, examining it curiously. Now, who could this belong to?

Kanji had (almost literally) stumbled across a book lying on the ground. It was a really careless place to leave a book, so Kanji picked it up, turning it over in his hands. It had buckles on it, so Kanji wasn't sure if he should open it or not. In the end, he decided to leave it closed.

He'd return it to the records room. That was where they kept the books, right?

...but which way was the records room? Kanji seemed to remember a room with a lot of books down this hall...

This was it. Kanji pushed open the door to the navigation room, then realized his mistake when he saw all the maps. Prooooobably not what he was looking for. But there was someone in here, someone who could probably give him directions.

"Hey," Kanji said to the other blonde guy. "Could you tell me where the records room is? You see I found this -- huh?" Kanji stopped mid-sentence as he spotted the doll in Roxas' hands. Oh, no, not again. Was there anyone on this ship who didn't pick up random dolls they found?

Roxas almost jumped with he heard Kanji's voice. He wasn't expecting anyone to come in the room at all. He almost dropped the doll he was holding, but managed to catch it before it fell to the ground. He let out a sigh of relief, as if the doll was a fragile thing that would have shattered upon hitting the floor.

"Oh, the records room, it's-"

And like Kanji, Roxas stopped dead, eyes fixated on the book in his hands. Ah! That was it!

Kanji wasn't entirely sure what had freaked Roxas out, and the sudden shock threw him completely off-balance. "W-where'd you find that?" he blurted out like an idiot, fingers tightening reflexively on the only object in his hands: the journal.

"Never mind this!" Roxas exclaimed, with an equal amount of idiocy. "Where'd you get that!?" he pointed at the book in Kanji's grasp with the hand he was using to hold the doll. That guy was really going to bring it to the records room!? Thank goodness he stopped by here first, otherwise the record keepers were going to be the ones reading it!

"This?" Kanji looked down at the book. "Uh...it was lying on the floor. In the hallway near the kitchen, I think. ...why do you wanna know?" He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.

What was so bad about a book? Roxas was holding a very incriminating handmade doll. That was way worse than what Kanji'd picked up, wasn't it?

Roxas paused for a moment to take a few deep breaths and calm himself down. Okay, the guy just found the book outside, right? If it was left in the hallway, that was probably where the ghost dropped it.

"Well, I..." How was Roxas supposed to word this without giving it away?

Answer: he couldn't. Maybe the guy didn't know it was a diary...?

"That...that's my book."

Well, that's my doll, Kanji thought.

Roxas seemed really on edge about this, about as on-edge as Kanji felt. Kanji's gut told him that Roxas wouldn't want to ask too many questions.

"Oh. Well, I--I'll trade you for that doll," he declared with more conviction (he hoped) than he felt, pointing at it.

The doll? He meant this thing that Roxas was holding right now? He blinked and looked down at it. Huh. What did a guy like him want a doll like this for? Maybe it belonged to a little sister or a girlfriend?

"Right...um..." Roxas said, fiddling with the doll absently. "I'll trade it back as long as you don't tell anyone about that book."

"Okay. Deal. As long as you don't tell anyone about that doll."

He held out the book, and a hand for the doll. The exchange would happen at the same time. Kanji was not letting go of the journal until he had hold of the doll.

"Deal."

Roxas reached out and grabbed his journal, just touching it made him feel better. He held out the doll and put it in Kanji's other the hand.

"All right, let go on three. One...two...three."

Roxas released the doll, and swore he'd carry the secret of the doll to his grave.
