Truthfully, Gumshoe would have loved doing something on Lunasa - after all, pal, it was a holiday, and holidays were meant to be celebrated to the fullest! Especially with pals and friends alike!
...but of course, the gunner had used up pretty much the last of his francs on the presents he had gotten for the people he could get presents for, so in the end he was pretty much down and out and without no way to really celebrate the holidays without losing what little possessions he had, Gumshoe thus simply stayed on the ship. He supposed it wasn't that all bad anyway - it wasn't like back in Tulgim, where he was always alone and without anyone at all.
Which was why he was still in pretty good spirits as he went around the ship and humming 'We Wish You A Merry Lunasa' under his breath while he mostly puttered around in a bid to spend his time as cheerfully as possible.
He recognized Gumshoe the moment he turned a corner and spotted the other further down the hallway. The Quartermaster immediately smiled, and waved in greeting.
"Lieutenant Gumshoe. This is a pleasant surprise."
Gumshoe paused in his humming at the greeting, looking up before he blinked, smiled and waved back in return as well. "Same to you, sir! I thought you'd be out celebrating Lunasa with the rest of the crew!" Oh, how he wished he had the money to join them... but alas, there was only so much his pay could manage.
The gunner sagged a little at that, one hand moving to rub the back of his neck as the man got his usual kicked puppy dog look crossing his face as he replied. "Well, I kind of blew the last bit of my francs at getting gifts for Lunasa..." Not that he minded at all, of course! ...but sometimes he wished he did have more cash on him instead of continuously treading the fine line of poor and complete bankruptcy.
"Nah, I ain't got the francs if it was for someone like that, pal," Gumshoe replied with an audible sigh, sagging all the more. Would he even ever get a girlfriend...? Most likely not, considering everything... man, his life was hard at times.
"Well, that's not really the problem, it's more of--" the Lieutenant started, only to be stopped tat the rather abrupt exclamation and all Gumshoe could do was to blink and stare at the other for a few good moments before he held his hands and palms up in a gesture of surrender. "Y-You don't need to do that at all, pal, really! I mean, it's not like I have the time anyway." He was already pretty busy as it was already, and having a girlfriend really wasn't going to help with issues in the slightest.
"You don't? What's keeping you busy, beyond your duties on board?"
It was an honest question, actually - Roy really was curious. Serving on several airships had taught him that it was actually impossible to be too busy to have a social life, for most.
Gumshoe scratched the back of his head this time, a thoughtful look crossing his face as he answered. "Uh well, there's my duties... and when I'm off them I usually help out with whatever Commander Edgeworth is busy with! He's always a really busy guy and all, you know. And then there's also--"
He then paused abruptly at that and suddenly looked straight at Roy, as if having very belatedly realized something and a confused look crossed his face now. "I think I just realized this, but you're awfully cheerful today, aren't you, sir?" Was it because of Lunasa or something? Well, whatever it was, it sure was a nice change from the usual.
The same as always? The man blinked at that, seemingly surprised by the answer, but his attention was redirected soon enough at the next question.
"Oh, yeah!" he replied with a smile at said question. "I used to work for him back on the Victoria II a few years ago. Though I got deployed to the Tulgim area for the last two years or so..." He sagged a little, again, but quickly brought himself back up at the last bit. "But I got assigned here after the ship I was on kind of got into an accident, so everything worked out in the end!"
OF COURSE HE WILL.zagakutoAugust 27 2010, 15:30:38 UTC
After he left the ship...? Gumshoe furrowed his brows at that, seemingly unsure what to make of this response. Somehow, something about that didn't seem right at all... but what was it...?
"Well, I haven't been on the Victoria II ever since Unification Day two years ago," he continued on, still smiling. "And with how often the ship kept changing people, it's not so surprising you don't know me!" He ended with a small chuckle, somewhat amused at his own words.

A crooked smile.
"What about you? What are you doing indoors?"

Time to steer the conversation down a more comfortable direction, yes.
"Oh? Who did you buy gifts for? Got a lady friend?"

A pause, then:
"I could help you find one!"

Enough about him, though.
"You and Edgeworth are close?"

No wonder he had never seen Gumshoe around before, although why the man was even working with Edgeworth was another thing of interest to him.
One step at a time, Mustang.

Was the man confused over something? Looked like it. And Roy was starting to get the feeling that he knew what it might have been.
