Characters: Penelo and Beat Content: After the sleepover, they both realized they...need to talk. Setting: Infirmary on the Convoy Time: Sometime after the first night of the sleepover Warnings: Awkward? Potential for Beat-swearing?
Since they lived together for those few months between the 4423 and here on the Convoy, Beat had gotten much more comfortable going in and out of Penelo's space, both her room and the infirmary, and at the sound of the music playing he simply opened the door carefully, walking in.
She was dancing again. he had seen it plenty of times, but it still caught his attention. He was no expert on the arts, but he did know it was very pretty, almost hypnotizing.
She stumbled when Beat spoke, but Penelo was too practiced to fall from something like that. "There you are," she said, smiling. "You can sit down, if you want."
"W-whoa! Sorry!" he yelped, hopping back and waving his arms a little. But once he calmed down he fumbled with a seat, feeling more like he was here for a check-up then a talk of any kind. That same level of nervous butterflies all in his guts.
He fidgeted, fiddling with his hat. Oh man... he had hoped she would just forget it. "Yeah... er, I'm really sorry, yo. I didn' mean ta freak you out or nothin' like that. I-it was just, ya know, spontaricious!" He babbled, butchering his words as he went.
Beat's face fell even more, sensing how weird this must be for her. She had just lost Katsushiro, and now having a friend do something like this? Must have been hard. Of course he didn't think of it in such terms, but he understood the basics well enough.
"Look...Pen. I dunno why. We're friends and you're really cute, ya know? i wasn't thinking straight I guess..." a lot of his slang was filtered from his voice, though not really on purpose. Perhaps it was the seriousness of the conversation. "I mean, I care a lot about you, yo. I don' wanna make us all weird or something just 'cause I'mma idiot."
It was hard, though Penelo would never admit it out loud. She bit her lip and looked at Beat. (It was a little strange, hearing him speak...intelligently.) "I'm not mad or anything," she assured him. "And...okay, you're pretty stupid, but not the kind of stupid that affects this." Smiling, Penny squeezed Beat's arm. Or tried to. "But...you really think I'm cute?"
"Whoa, really? Katsu never said nothin' like that?" That just blew his mind a little. When he was dating Haine he had called her pretty all the time! Though maybe he did so -too- much?
Penelo shook her head. "You know how he was. Quiet, not one for words," she reminded him. "I just don't think it ever crossed his mind. Vaan's pretty dumb, so he just..." She chuckled. "Yeah. And, Beat, I'm not sure you could lie to me."
He nodded, thinking about it. Yeah, Katsushiro wasn't the chatty type. "Yeah... guess yer right... Hey! I totally can!" He puffed up, chest out and look righteously insulted.
Again, she laughed. "No, but I bet you anything they're stuffed in your trunk under the underwear," Penelo said. "Or under your bed, under the dirty laundry."

"Er...yo."

Penelo bit her lip, going to sit next to Beat. "So...uhm...about the other night..." She fumbled.

She blushed a little. "You know, I don't think Katsushiro or Vaan or anyone who wasn't like a parent to me ever told me that," she commented.
