Roxas felt worthless, holed up here in the ballroom and unable to help with anything. He couldn't look for invaders, he couldn't spot or fix sabotage, and he couldn't even fight if things came down to a battle to protect the passengers.

He knew he shouldn't be hard on himself. He was a civilian, and the Amestris was supposed to be a peaceful, diplomatic ship with the sole purpose of bringing good to Reial and solving conflict. Still, it felt kind of bad when his biggest skill - navigation - would prove to be completely useless.

Lingering around the center of one of the walls, all he could do was wait for a signal that everything was safe again.

After yet another round through the ship, Roy made his way back to the ballrooom in order to check how things were going. The Quartermaster's exasperation was probably evident in his expression, although he wasn't about to admit to any of it, if anybody pressed him...

The alchemist slipped inside, nodding to the guards before doing a round through the area to talk to people and check how things were. The situation was hardy ideal, and he wasn't about to let morale slip and irritation ruin things.

Roxas noticed the officer entering the ballroom, and his natural curiosity began to take hold. Was he here to take up bodyguard duties? Giving orders? A report? Asking for one? Whatever it was, he didn't look happy. Not that anyone could be happy given the situation they were in. As the officer drew near, he dared to ask, "Everything okay?"

Huh, unfamiliar kid. Roy wasn't nearly as familiar with the crew of the Amestris as he would have liked just yet...

"For the moment, yes. You are?"

Ack, this guy was a little intimidating. But he was a military man, so that was his job, right? Roxas had to get used to living on an airship with so many serious types. The Winding Way had been completely different.

"Sorry, I'm Roxas. Roxas Orior, a navigator."

"Well met." A wan smile. "Lieutenant Commander Roy Mustang. I'm one of the Quartermasters."

He turned away momentarily, looking at the crowd.

"Have things been quiet here?"

"So far, yeah," Roxas replied. Knowing the lieutenant commander's name made it easier for him to talk to him. It gave things a more human feel. "I mean, there's a lot of tension going on right now, but we're fine right now."

"That's good to hear."

And he did wonder, actually, how things were going to pan out. The investigation had turned up nothing, but it wasn't like someone like Bradley to just die in a ditch somewhere...

"You're not with the military, are you?"

Roxas? With the military? He thought he was far too scrawny for that, not to mention he didn't know the first thing about fighting. He just wasn't cut out for this kind of thing.

"Nope, just a civilian."

"Oh? What made you decide to come on board with us?"

Roy was genuinely curious, and he did like hearing about the people he was on board with.

The answer came naturally, as this question was one that Roxas answered often. "My father was a navigator," he said. "And I want to be just like him. I was on a ship once, a few months ago, but it was decommissioned. This one was hiring around the time I started looking for a new one."

Talking about something else made Roxas feel less tense about the whole situation, more able to take his mind off things. He added, "I was hoping a diplomatic ship would be quieter, but I guess that isn't the case."

"Which ship?"

That story seemed innocent and typical enough... Roy doubted that the boy had anything to hide. Didn't seem like the type. As to that other comment...

"Any ship with ties to the military is guaranteed to run into its fair share of scrapes, I think."

"I see that now," Roxas said. "But I'm used to it." The Way had more than its fair share of excitement in his opinion. Roxas just seemed to have bad luck picking ships. "Oh, and my other ship was the Winding Way."

"Ah, I remember that one."

How could he not know it? That had been Hughes' ship before.

"You're probably right at home with the entertainers we've got down here. They seem like an interesting bunch."

"The atmosphere is tense in here, isn't it?" came a voice from his left, originating from the tall, dark-haired woman who took up a section of the wall a foot or two away from Roxas. Yuuko crossed her arms and pressed her side into the wall, a little smile on her face.

Her? Making small talk? Nonsense.

The enchantress wasn't as bummed out as the rest of the crew about the sabotage, but it would be a lie if she said she wasn't the slightest bit concerned. If only because she was on that ship.

Roxas jumped a little at the voice and turned to see Yuuko. Where did she come from? Did she come in at some time or was she always there and did Roxas just not notice her? Either way, he had to be more careful of his surroundings. What if one of the saboteurs was sneaking up on him? He would be dead meat for sure.

"Uh, yeah," he replied. Vaguely, Roxas could remember seeing this woman around the ship a couple times, but he never talked to her.
