Curiouser and curiouser, said Alice...so_many_moodsJune 28 2010, 13:31:35 UTC
Hex was getting extremely tired of being a Sprite. The novelty of a malleable face had kept her entertained for a while, and she had been enjoying her unofficial role as 'matchmaker' for those adorably romantically-retarded boys.... Still, enough was enough. There was just so much she couldn't do.
Fly, for one thing. The clicking of her heels on the metal floor of the ship betrayed her presence everywhere she went. Presently, she was working on learning to move quietly through the halls of the ship, and it had required her to take off her boots and walk around in just stockings. She turned a hallway as quietly as possible.
..What was this? The boy who swore he was only human... and what was he doing to the wall?
I did this log especially for Hex :3son_of_timeJune 28 2010, 21:00:24 UTC
Luckily for Hex, Sam had yet to notice her presence. After finishing with one, he moved over to another wall and repeated the process again. He wished there was some way to do this faster, otherwise he'd have to do this over a couple of days.
I thought you might have XDso_many_moodsJune 28 2010, 23:31:50 UTC
Hmm... what was he up to? Strengthening, perhaps? Hex smirked. Subterfuge wasn't really her forte.. but hmm.. how best to create chaos? With a wicked grin, she slid her interface units out of her fingers and plugged them into the wall he had just strengthened. She could not infect when she was not a Virus, she could only interface, and ask the programming to do things it normally did. But the programming in the walls remembered her and were afraid. The door immediately next to Sam began to open and close rapidly. If he paid attention, it was actually Morse Code. 'Hello,' it said.
He needed to be harassed more :Dson_of_timeJune 29 2010, 07:17:54 UTC
The thing is, Sam had spent years looking behind his back and he had quickly learnt that things that can sneak up on him are generally very, very dangerous. So when the door suddenly opened and closed he reacted badly. Running on instinct he jumped away from the door and flung a fireball, destroying it.
Noticing that it was just a door, it instantly put him on edge. There was no way the door could do that by itself. Sam casted his mind about. There! Gathering magic into his fingertips he walked slowly to make it look like he had randomly picked a direction. "Show yourself!"
XD One harrasment coming up!so_many_moodsJune 29 2010, 12:25:20 UTC
Hex removed her interface units and struck a pose, crossing her arms in front of her and leaning against the wall. She laughed loudly as he came towards her. "My, we are a bit jumpy, aren't we, dear?" Her voice was amused but not unkind. She really hadn't met to terrify him, just startle him.
Of all the people on the ship to have seen him, did it have to be Hex?! Sam was well aware on what it was like to be insane and he knew that crazy people had trouble keeping their mouths shut. At least he was pretty sure that Hex was truly crazy, not just chaotic.
He allowed the pent up magic to dissipate and raised his chin defiantly "How else was I supposed to act then?"
Hex smirked, and a wicked grin spread over her features. Her interest in this human had been aroused ever since his was the only room to withstand her barrage. She would find out why that was.. but first, she intended to answer his question. She did so with a single word. "Chaotically!"
But it didn't seem like she had caught on that he had been claiming to be an ordinary, non-magical human or maybe Hex thought that everybody could use magic or whatever. He wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth.
"Okay, well have fun then. I'm off." And with that he started to head off.
A wicked laugh, then. "Oh, you certainly are, dear. Doing what definitely appears to be magic after claiming so feverishly to be only human." She made a tsking sound and wagged a finger. "And they call me insane."
Just in case, she interfaced with the wall again, and the door Sam was heading towards slammed shut. There was still the one he'd destroyed, but she was now between it and him. "And why is it, I wonder... that your room was spared?"
Sam froze and then the door he was headed for shut. It looked like that this wasn't something that he could just avoid. He turned back round to face Hex. "Humans are capable of magic too."
Damn, of all the times for the captain to be missing, why now?!
"Certainly true, cheeky." Hex winked at him. She was still being playful, but there was an edge of something... dark and icy to her voice. She was coming to the point, and this was really bothering her.
"There are very few things that are strong enough to withstand a full attack by an over-energized Virus bent on destruction. Whatever you did...well... I want to know how." She began to inspect her nails... and then the wall itself.
Sam picked up on that edge in Hex's voice and narrowed his eyes in response. He watched Hex closely as she started examining the wall, he didn't know if she could sense magic or not and it was worrying.
"I'll tell you a bit, on one condition." Sam wasn't sure how smart it was to be bargaining, but he couldn't see any other way out of this. As long as he didn't give away some of the more important information it would be fine.
How does Sam do with people touching him?so_many_moodsJune 30 2010, 12:22:56 UTC
No, Hex could not sense magic. But she had just interfaced with the wall, and it had told her something was very odd. Hex giggled with delight at his acquiescence, and then was suddenly very serious. She raised an eyebrow and took a step forward, away from the wall but still between him and the door. "And what condition might that be, cheeky?"
He's not going to be happy about it. Not violent, but very unhappyson_of_timeJuly 1 2010, 02:15:53 UTC
Sam automatically took a step back as Hex moved forward. He was very wary of her intentions. "That this conversation stays between us. That you won't do anything that may allow others to learn of what I'll say." His voice was clear and confident, completely at odds with how nervous he was.

Hex's smirk wavered just a little, and was silent for a moment before continuing. When she did, there was no malevolence in her voice anymore, just intrigue. "It is... a secret?" She sighed quietly. She, too, had secrets she'd prefer no one to know. "Very well, cheeky."
As quickly as the solemnity had come, it left even faster. Hex could move very quickly for someone as tall as she was, and loomed in inches away from Sam. She caressed his cheek fondly, gently, and then stepped back again, a bemused smile on her face. "I'll keep your secret, dearie."
Sam had to fight the urge to burn something (preferrably Hex's hand) when she touched his cheek. He was already backed up in a corner and he didn't need to make things worse, especially since Hex had agreed to his terms. Instead he stared at Hex with the full weight of an immortal's gaze. Normal people could never meet his gaze, his eyes being the only thing that betrayed his age. Although, a very small part of him whispered that Hex was far from normal.
"Very well. As you have already worked out I can do a little magic. What you want to know is why I have so much power," Sam smiled an empty smile, touched with a slight fondness "you have my mother to thank for that. She's Magic herself."
