Kairi almost rushed into kitchen, plain dress with short sleeves intact for the occasion, as cooking could be quite radical when they had to work with limited time. She fervently hoped she wasn't late: this wasn't usually like her. Not minding the surroundings, with experience, she was aware that there was no chit-chat. Just go straight to work. A lot of people were alreayd flowing in for the dinner. She noticed two cook books in the counter, and walked to it, her eyes flickering through the recipe. She flipped the pages to study those that had tags, and tried to memorize them at least a bit so she wouldn't have to go back and forth too much. She probably would have to, however, knowing the pressure.

Taking note of who was near, she spotted who she knew was the person in charge, the long, brown haired woman. She might as well ask what type of food they're running slow on, so she can focus on that first, then get to the rest. Heading her way, she approached her in a hurried sprint, smiling, "Hello, ma'am. I'm one of the volunteers. I was wondering what meal we don't have much of in numbers yet so I can make it."

Catching the sound of a female voice, Tear carefully shifted her attention away from the preparation of another cream of pumpkin, as her mind instinctively registered the young girl standing there, idly taking into account her wine red hair and indigo blue eyes. The quartermaster didn't quite recognize her, but then again, she still didn't have the opportunity to learn each and every face of the crew just yet. However, she could only take one day at a time, and there wasn't any use in rushing. Although, at the moment, slow and steady couldn't win the race presently known as Count Tamaki's soup kitchen. Fortunately, here was a volunteer that seemed ready and focused on the pertinent matter at hand.

"We're a bit low on the congee with century eggs," she replied, after mentally tallying an estimate of each meal prepared. "Most of the meat and rice has already been prepared..." With one hand preoccupied with using a wooden spoon to stirthe mixture within the saucepan, she used her free one to incline towards the area she left the steamed chicken to cool and the rice cooking in a pot. "...So you'll be able to skip the first two steps. If you don't know where to find a certain ingredient or cooking equipment, please let me know."

Gumshoe was regrettably somewhat late, but man - the ship was just so big! The man wasn't even sure how many times he had already gotten himself lost in these hallways, but at least this time wasn't so bad; all he had to do was to ask and one of the cabin boys even happily helped to bring him to where the kitchens were! It was really kind of him, and the gunner would have given him something for the kid's trouble if he could have...

That regret aside, the man entered the kitchen as soon as he had arrived, looking as scruffy as always as he saluted to nobody in particular. "Lieutenant Dick Gumshoe, reporting for kitchen duty!"

Listening closely, she only looked away when the woman had motioned her hand to the prepared food in the corner that she was talking of. Before asking if she did need to find an ingredient, she acouted around the kitchen, noting most of them were out already for a quick grab. Hopefully, she wouldn't be too concerned about that the more time passed, but...she was alright for now. And she was glad there was help, at least. Staring at her superior gratefully, she was about to head off to work on the congee, "I'll keep that in mind, thank you."

With a respectful nod, she turned away, and walked to where the rice and chicken rested, reading over the instructions one more time as she passed the book, and watching her hands after. She fiddles with the eggs without missing a beat, and it was there that a voice suddenly introduce himself to everyone present. Kairi shifted her head slightly to see who it was, spotting a buff-looking man with a kind face. She didn't want to be too distracted, though, so she waved at him in greeting with a smile, and continued with her duty. Still, he was rather familiar...

As the girl headed off to work on the congee, Tear returned to concentrate on finishing the cream of pumpkin soup. It was just when she added the whipping cream that a man spoke out. Continuing to stir the soup, the young woman instinctively shifted her gaze in the direction of the voice. It was another person she didn't quite recognize, but his name rang a bell. If she recalled correctly, he was one of the gunners, and evidently, one of the volunteers for the count's soup kitchen.

"Can you work on the vichyssoise, Lieutenant? The recipes are on the counter." With a slight tilt of her head, she inclined towards the cookbooks she left open.

"Yessir!" the man immediately responded, seemingly not at all bothered over the fact that he was being ordered around without question - in fact, Gumshoe actually did appreciate being ordered around. He knew for a fact that he was hardly good at giving out orders, always needing someone to direct and point him towards the right direction. He fumbled more often than not, and the mention of the recipes being available only made him happier - surely with them, he could do this!

Heading towards the counter, Gumshoe picked up the recipe for the vichyssoise, frowning at the instructions as his eyebrows knitted over them, other hand moving to scratch the back of his head in confusion. What in the world was this recipe meaning by 'sweat'...?

Kairi was busy setting up quite a few century eggs, shelling and dicing them, while she had the normal eggs boil and salted in one of the pots in the burner for a few minutes. She was still slightly curious of the newcomer, but continued working, now mixing the seasoning in a different container as she grabbed the garlic and sesame oil nearby. She'd forgotten what other ingredient she was supposed to add, so she briskly headed towards the cook books, using the one left available.

So...I'm missing chicken stock granule...

Biting her lip, she put it down, and gave the instructions one last glance before she hurried away. That is, she would have, if she didn't do a double take and noticed that the recent volunteer seemed sort of lost. She studied him closely for a moment, before placing a hand gently at the corners of the pages without covering its directions. She tilted her head curiously, gazing at his face with an understanding smile, "Hey, you need any help?"
