It just so happened that Ness was the only doctor on duty at that particular time. He didn't exactly plan it this way, but it seemed that whatever forces that governed Reial wanted him to see his brother again. Which was all fine with him. He had a few choice words he wanted to tell Red. Namely, chew him out for disappearing for three years to go live on top of a mountain.

Sometimes Ness wondered what went on in Red's head. He knew his brother pretty well, but there was just some things he couldn't get.

He was a bit unprepared to see Red walk through the door - he didn't look much different from when Ness last saw him, but still, he must have changed somehow during the last three years.

"...hello, Red."

Joshua's interest was caught the moment he had caught the last name "Lakehaven" on the Network. Ness had mentioned a brother on very rare ocassions, and their little public exchange had only solidified his impression that there was some distance between the two. Joshua was interested in this Red, but after Rikku's replies to Red's post, Joshua wasn't sure if meeting Red alone was such a good idea.

Especially when he had been on a mountain for 3 years. Who even stays up a mountain for that long? Only people who were absolutely crazy about mountains, or people who used that time to sit under a waterfall to train, as far as Joshua was concerned.

So here he was, lounging around on a chair in the infirmary with his journal on his lap, waiting to see if Red would come in like Ness had asked him to. Luckily for Joshua, Red chose the time Ness was on duty, and he put his journal aside to watch their little reunion.

Not according plan. Not according to plan at all.

"...hello, Ness."

For now, Joshua wasn't even a blip on his radar, which was good for the boy, considering Red really had no idea what he would do when he met the boy.

Pikachu was just licking some more ketchup, sitting against the leg of Joshua's chair.

Ness would say hello to Pika, but he knew how much she loved ketchup and figured that it would be best not to bother her. Good, this meant he could focus all his attention on his brother. He got up from his chair and went over to Red, the brother he hadn't seen in years.

For a moment, he just stood there, watching Red carefully to see if he could figure out what he was thinking or feeling. He couldn't tell much, other than that Red was tense and probably not very pleased to be here at all. So Ness did the logical thing.

He slugged Red across the jaw.

... Well, that was unexpected.

Joshua considered petting what he guessed was Pika, but he recalled Red mentioning to be careful around her, unless he liked being 'shocked'. He decided to keep his habds to himself and his eyes on the brothers.

Red staggered backwards a couple of steps, he was not expecting that.

For the briefest of instance face had a depressed look to it. He rubbed his jaw a bit before walking back up to Ness, and began lifting up his right arm to pat his brother on his head, however he let it drop after a second and just turned his head the other way.

Giving Ness a shot at the other side of his jaw.

"Until you feel better."

Despite being a pacifist at heart, Ness had little qualms about hitting his brother. It was just in the nature of siblings to fight. And sometimes you really did need to hit Red to get your message across. It was okay though. Red could take it.

"One's enough for me," Ness said. He had put three years of worrying and frustration in that one punch and he already felt much better. He stepped forward and hugged his brother.

Interesting relationship they had there. Ness' greeting of Red was rather reminiscent of the way he'd greeted Joshua when he'd disappeared and returned. Perhaps this was part of the reason Ness didn't like it when he disappeared?

Standing, Joshua decided to make his presence known. "Charming reunion. Good to see you're both as considerate to potential spectators in person as you are over the Network."

Red returned the hug, rather...awkwardly. He really was no good in social situations.

He stared at Joshua, not really caring what he was saying at the moment, but more intrested in who this douche-baggy looking boy was.

"...Ah. Friend?"

Trust Joshua to ruin a moment. Ness let go of Red, not really embarrassed at all.

"...this is Joshua," Ness said. He didn't think he needed to say any more than that, since Red seemed to have found out who Joshua was before this little meeting. "Joshua, this is my brother, Red."

Joshua couldn't say he'd heard all about Red from Ness, not when Ness didn't talk about him all that much. So instead, he said to Red, "The family resemblance is remarkable." Turning his head slightly to the side, he continued, "You seem to be quite the protective one, given your second question to Ness concerning me."

"Ah..."

A bit relieved when Ness broke the hug. When Joshua began to speak, Red was already giving Joshua a hard looking over.

Pre-Trainer Fight Analysis: Short. Small. Slim. Little to no muscle mass. Looks malnourished. To relaxed. One of those so called, 'pretty bois'.

Inputting. Inputting.

Calculating.

Analysis Complete: Can snap like a twig. Threat level non-existent. Use a Suplex to easily take him down, if he does anything to Ness. No need for Pika.

"...A bit."

He turned back to Ness. "Mom and dad meet him?"

Maybe Ness was wrong and Red hadn't changed at all in the past few years. He could tell that Red was sizing Joshua up. It was always like that, ever since they were younger. Red would always protect him from threats, both real and imaginary. Red might have stayed the same, but Ness himself had changed. He didn't need his brother to watch over him all the time now.

"Yeah, a few months ago," he answered. "Though they knew about him for longer."

Perhaps for too long; the Lakehavens had been pleasant enough but... they'd also been rather enthusiastic.

Something had been bugging Joshua for a while now. Seriously... "Why a mountain for training?" Joshua curled a hand loosely under his chin and gave Red a quick once over. "You don't seem the type to sit under a waterfall for three years."

"Why not. No waterfall anyways..."

Red did not meet Joshua's eyes or anything. Nor look at Ness.

Ness couldn't quite tell if Joshua and Red were getting along. They were two unusual individuals and it was kind of strange watching them talk.

"Uh...Red, do you have an updated medical chart?"

That was the original reason Red came down, after all.
