She still wore her blades across her back. She would always wear them, wear them until her death. Of all the things about her life she had come to question, there were still some things she accepted as bedrock.
Waiting for the others to arrive, she took the long blade out of its sheath and threw it high in the air, watching the light catch the blade as it spun in swift circles towards her hand which closed over the handle with practiced precision. It was all in the timing, watching the rotation. Useless and showy, it was the kind of thing that was only good for training games, and the stage. That was how she must learn to think of them again when she walked around in public, as the blades of a sword mistress, not a warrior. A theater person.
Perhaps she had made a mistake being a boatswain. It had made her too responsible for others, too involved, too attached to the wrong kinds of people. She had opened her heart to impossible things, and she understood that now.
It had been the right decision to walk away from Hughes. That had been the biggest temptation, but also the thing which made her understand that she needed to leave that chapter of her life behind. He was married, and while she supposed she could still find honor it was doubtful she could find happiness working side by side with him day after day. It had taken the belief of his death to shock her into awareness and out of denial. Then she had begun to see more things, the way she had settled down, the way she had become so attatched to the children, the way she had stopped looking for her lost island home.
She pulled out her second blade, the forked one, and began to play, catching and flipping the longer one on her catching blade. Left hand, right hand, left hand.
She wondered what her new shipmates would be like, her fellow performers. Master Paine's Traveling Circus was where she had felt most relaxed. Would it be possible to recapture that feeling? No cares in the world but her own, free to slip out into the night with no obligations left behind? There had been some good times, and now maybe there would be again. It would all depend on what they were like, how they could work together.
[ooc: Okay, enough tl;dr. Being a ttl genius, in my quest for more CR I didn't quiiite think threading all the way through, whether we should keep one thread for performers only and then treat the rest like a mingle log or what. So, I'm going to cop out and say do whatever you like, since I have no idea how many watchers will end up tagging. Feel free to start new threads, chat with each other as you watch, or to the performers, etc, and if you want to keep a conversation between 2 or 3 people for flow mark the thread closed. You don't have to wait for me to tag you, you can tag each other. Um, I think that's it. Go get some CR! /I'm looking at you, new muns! *pats log invitingly*]
