Lafiel straightened her uniform, then boarded the Goliath. She strode down the deck, attempting to locate the captain's office for her meeting.

The captain was sitting at his desk, as per usual, writing out a few notes and looking over plans from his higher-ups, such as destinations and the like. He was expecting Lafiel to arrive at any moment, thus refraining from getting too involved in paperwork so that he could be at proper attention for their meeting.

Lafiel knocked at the door, and waited for permission to enter.

Vava looked up from his seat, shuffled a few papers around and adjusted his glasses before he said clearly and firmly, "Come in."

Lafiel walked in, and saluted. "Lieutenant junior-grade Lafiel Abriel reporting in, sir."

"As you were," Vava commanded with little expression in his voice or face. "Take a seat. What have you to report?"

Lafiel sat down, still somewhat at attention. "As of yet, nothing, sir. I was recently reassigned to the Goliath, and was awaiting your orders as to anything I needed to do before we left port."

Vava watched her intently, tilting his head a bit, "Mmn. I see. Well, as of now.." He looked down at his papers, flipping through a few, "... there really isn't a plethora of things to do, what with the holiday approaching."

Lafiel nodded, looking a bit disappointed. "I see. Well, then, with the captain's permission, I'll move my duffel onto the Goliath, and check out the equipment."

The captain didn't pick up on her disappointment in the matter and instead nodded, "Permission granted. Is there anything you have questions about before you do so?"

Lafiel nodded. "I realize that you may not be able to answer this, but, after the holidays, will we be out hunting for pirates?"

"..." Vava blinked, obviously a bit taken-aback by the woman's words. After a brief pause, he replied, "Heh. You're rather enthusiastic, aren't you, Lieutenant?" He smiled lightly, slightly amused.

"I don't like pirates, sir." Lafiel said seriously. "They are a threat to Britannia, and I intend to do what I can to stop them." She paused. "Within the limits of my honor and oath to the military, of course."

Vava's expression sobered up quickly, almost as if his smile hadn't been there at all. He gave her a slight look, intrigued, before nodding again, "I see. Well, I do not know of our exact plans after the holiday. I've yet to get direct orders from my superiors."

Lafiel nodded. "I expected as much. Thank you, sir."

"Indeed. Anything else you'd like to know?" Vava said calmly.

"Can you tell me anything about the other crew?" Lafiel asked.

Vava blinked again, "Ah, well, I suppose..." He looked pensive for a moment before saying, "Anyone in particular? They're all.. rather unique."

"Anything I need to look out for," Lafiel said.

Vava was a bit amused by her remark, but it did not show on his face, nor in his voice, "Well, Grand Admiral von Karma is on board, so I suspect you'll want to be most professional while he's in earshot. Also, my pet alligators can be a bit .. ah. Curious of new crew members. Just don't antagonize them and they shouldn't bother you."

Lafiel nodded -- she'd heard rumors about the alligators. "Yes, sir. I'll be careful." Whether it was of Grand Admiral von Karma or the alligators, nothing in her manner specified.

"See to it that you are," Similarly, Vava's tone did not indicate what he was referring to, but given the mannerisms of both the alligators and the Grand Admiral, it probably wouldn't have mattered. "Anything else?"

"Not at the moment, Captain." Lafiel said.

"All right," Vava said. "You're dismissed, then."

"Yes, sir." Lafiel saluted again, and strode out of the office.
