All right, let's get this show on the road! gypsymothdance January 21 2010, 07:59:07 UTC
Jean had seen better days. Of course, she had seen worse days as well, so other than the faintest of sighs to herself, she kept her troubles to herself. The best way to keep herself from dwelling on things was to keep active, working in the background of the daily hustle and bustle of the ship, and keeping her breaks short so she didn't wonder too much what her absent friends were up to.

"... I'm sure we'll see him again soon," she remarked to herself as she broke her thoughtful gaze and returned her attention to cleaning in the kitchen. It wasn't that she wasn't worried about Ichigo's sudden disappearance. However, it would do no one any good if she worried herself sick about him while he was gone. She had to keep faith in her friend and keep living her life in the meantime.

That silence wasn't going to last too long though, as it only took a few moments after that before the father of a certain runaway from the ship had come crashing into the kitchens quite loudly - as it was always for him of course, more often than not.

"MY SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!" came the exclamation that broke the silence as Isshin entered into the scene, fully on and ready to find his son as the elder man snapped into a ready stance, dark eyes scrutinizing the room with the best attention he could muster up. So farm his search hadn't turned up with a lot of results, but that sure didn't mean he would give up! He'd take however long he had to before he found his precious Ichigo!

...thus so concentrated he was in his search, the man didn't even noticed Jean right nearby him.

Jean jumped in surprise, tossing the wet cloth she was holding a few feet in the air when she did. Luckily, she caught it quickly enough out of reflex that it didn't hit the floor. But she put it down on a nearby counter anyway as she turned, stunned and bewildered, at the man who had just barged into the room shouting at the top of his lungs.

Obviously, he was not looking for her, and in fact didn't seem to notice her at all. But it was worth seeing if she could help regardless, or at least figure out what was going on before he messed up the kitchen she had just been cleaning. She cleared her throat to try and catch his attention and asked, "Excuse me, but do you need something?"

Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately, depending on how one saw it) for Jean, Isshin had caught her when she called out for him, and so turned towards the green-haired female with the best grin he could muster up on his face (which was really one hell of a grin, to be honest).

"Ah, yes!" he started, and his teeth might have sparkled there and then as he spoke. "You see, I'm currently trying to look for my precious darling son, but he seems to have disappeared on me! Perhaps you might have seen him, fine miss?"

From that grin, she was starting to get the impression that he wasn't shouting around because there was some kind of emergency, but because he was just one of those over-the-top sort of guys. But that was all right. She was used to dealing with strange characters.

"That depends. What does he look like?" She guessed, incorrectly, that he was looking for a young boy, since those were the kinds of sons who fathers normally lose, and would explain why this stranger was looking around the Winding Way for him.

Isshin grinned at that - perfect someone who helped him! Perhaps this time, he might really find his precious son!

"Why, thank you!" the man went, before he started to describe his son for the woman. "He's around his twenties, with orange-hair and looks a bit on the rough side... flies a plane and works here as Radio Ops!" Isshin beamed there and then, looking at the other. "Do you know anyone like that, miss?"

Oh. Oh. That wasn't exactly what she expected, but at least things were starting to make sense.

"... you're Ichigo's father?"

That return-question earned a few blinks from Isshin as his mind processed the reasoning behind this inquiry. A few seconds passed, and once Isshin did managed to get it into his head...

"Ah, you know my darling son? That makes things so much simpler then!" he went with another one of his grins. "Do you know where he might be?"

"Of course I know him. He's a good friend." One of the closest she had on the ship, in fact, especially after a mutual friend of theirs had to leave the ship and return home.

Her expression dropped. It wasn't hard to see this coming. "Well, no, actually. No one's seen him since the Long Night."

...ah. So just like what he had been mildly expecting, then.

"Ah, I see..." the man started, his tone and voice becoming a bit more solemn now. If he had left and if he knew his son well enough, then that could only mean... "Did something happen during the Long Night?"

"Yes, actually, something did." There was no point in denying it to Ichigo's own father. "I don't know how to explain it really... it was like he became an entirely different person."

She paused, reflecting briefly on the conversation the two had shared last summer, when Ichigo had told her how he could see ghosts. Between how casually he had spoken about it, and how easily his father had guessed what had happened...

She debated, momentarily, whether to be polite and keep her curiosity to herself or to just go ahead and ask. In the end, concern for her friend won out: "... has something like this ever happened before?"

Hahaha, its alright. daddys_bear February 12 2010, 05:46:52 UTC
Isshin shook his head at the question, responding in a somewhat more serious tone now. "No, nothing that I know of." Though he wasn't going to tell her about how long he had been aware of his son's... nature. Still, he honestly hadn't expected the Hollow to emerge so early; his estimation had been in the next year, or maybe somewhere later down the road.

It just went to show how unpredictable life could be at times.

"I see..." But then why did he sound like he knew something?

... no, Jean was not going to pry any further, not when she could only make blind guesses about what was going on here. If it became her business, she would know; otherwise, sometimes it was best to bite her tongue out of respect.

A small, defeated sigh escaped her. "Anyway, I'm sorry if I'm not much help. If any of us knew where he went, we wouldn't be so worried about him!"

The man let a small smile come to his face at that. "No, it's perfectly fine! I'm sure my son is just out there somewhere enjoying the springtime of his youth~"

Which by that, he of course meant that Ichigo was out there trying to solve his problems, and Isshin his son well enough to know that he could handle it on his own. After all, he was his son, regardless of anything.

That broke the heavy mood fairly quickly. "The what of his youth?"

Grin. "The springtime of his youth!" the man echoed, all smiles and grins and hardly looking flustered or surprised in the least. In fact, one could say he was quite shameless.
