Being lost, Fox's biggest concern wasn't so much not being able to find his way around, or not finding someone to point him in the right direction. The ship wasn't that big...

"The heck?" he scratched his head.

...no, he was more worried about winding up somewhere he wasn't supposed to be. He was new. Was there some kind of protocol here? Shouldn't somebody have met up with him? Did he need to sign something? These questions and more wound up in a big ball of irritated anxiety somewhere in his skull.

The walls in the hallways didn't offer any kind of answer.

Atsuro had mostly seen people he knew or had seen around the ship earlier as he walked around the ship. But on the way to the Mess Hall (now that he wasn't in front of his journal, he was kind of hungry...), he thought he spotted someone unfamiliar in the hallways as he passed. Quickly backtracking, yeah that was a new guy and he looked kind of lost, Atsuro approached the demi-human. Whoah, cool, a fox!

"Hey!" Man, he hoped he got the right person. "Are you the new guy who needed to be shown around?"

The fox was lost. Did he look lost? Must have, since people were starting to notice him. It took him a second to realize that somebody was calling him. He spun around.

Orange shoulder bag, huh? Well this was probably the guy then. Provided that they weren't standard issue or anything.

"That's me," Fox said in spite of himself, "We talked in my journal?" Now that he thought about it, the voice sounded familiar.

He hadn't been expecting a...kid though. Maybe he just hadn't been around humans enough (but he thought that he had) but he didn't think this boy could be, well, much more than that--a boy.

"I'm Fox. Nice to meet you. In person." he offered his hand.

Atsuro nodded in response to the question, breaking out into a wide grin now that he knew he got the right guy. Awesome. "You too, Fox." Taking the demi-human's hand, he shook it. "Atsuro."

At that moment, his stomach gave a growl. Laughing sheepishly and scratching the back of his head, Atsuro asked, "Are you hungry? We could stop at the Mess first and get something to eat."

"Oh, uh, sure?" he rubbed the back of his neck.

Was he hungry? Nah, not really. He should probably still eat though. It had been a while since he'd had a decent-ish meal. He wondered if the "Mess" was very far. Not that he'd caught the scent of food or anything, but with a bit of annoyance he noted that it had never really occurred to him to try and find his way around that way.

If there was food, there probably would have been people who could tell him where he was supposed to be.

"Guess I'll...let you lead the way then."

Luckily, the Mess Hall wasn't too far away, and Atsuro turned to cheerfully lead the way. Most of the food from the mealtimes would've been cleared away by now, but there was bound to be some food around.

Not content to just let the conversation die there (he really needed to talk to his crewmates more often, huh), Atsuro began, "So, what were you doing before you joined the Fiertia?"

Well that was forward. It left Fox at a brief loss for words. But only brief.

"Right before? I was taking odd jobs between the badlands and Vohemar." Odd jobs here having the meaning of mercenary work. Sometimes, at least. Fox had done his share in his rather...varied career.

"What about you? Not to be rude or anything, but you seem a little young to have a job on an airship." he said, still slightly doubting his ability to recognize human age ranges. "What is it you do around here?"

Young? Really? Most of the crew were older than Atsuro, but there were still a few younger than him. There was even a kid running around!

"I'm one of the radio ops. I grew up around radios and journals, so I'm pretty good with them, heh." A small amount of pride leaked into his voice and wide grin. Scratching the back of his head, he added slightly sheepishly, "This is my first time out of my hometown, actually. It must be pretty cool being able to go where you want on your plane."

Technology. Figures. Why did kids always seem to have a one-up with that kind of thing? Distantly, Fox wondered if maybe the boy knew anything about mechanics...

"That's pretty impressive. I guess this is a heck of a way to see the world." He added. He thought it was..odd, to say the least, that somebody his age who had never been outside of one town could get a job on an airship. Hopefully it meant he was just that good.

Regarding the last comment, he said, "Flying is the best, but it's not like you can just go wherever, whenever."

Atsuro nodded in agreement. Yeah it was pretty good seeing the world like this. He actually had been to Melior a couple of times, but those had been ages ago when he was a kid. He pretty much forgot about those times. Atsuro's face practically lit up at the small compliment Fox gave him. "Hehe, thanks!"

Arriving at the mess hall, Atsuro gestured around at the tables. "Here's the mess hall. Meals are served here, but if you get hungry in between those times, you can check out the kitchen! It's this way." And he weaved around some of the the scattered chairs towards the kitchen.

It was empty for once, so Atsuro made a bee-line for the ice chest and rummaged around. Maybe there was some ice cream in there. Continuing where their conversation had left off, "I guess where you travel really depends on where the job takes you, doesn't it? But you get time off, right?"

Fox took note of where they were going and Atsuro's instructions. Things were so much more laid back than he thought they would be. He half expected a sit-down, stand-up routine mentality, even on a ship like this. Finding the opposite true left him feeling relieved.

Not feeling hungry, he did not touch much of anything in the kitchen. It was empty, more or less, right now, but it probably got busy during mealtimes. This was only his second time in a kitchen on a ship, and the last had been decidedly stricter. But that was a while back. He somehow doubted things had changed.

"Yeah. It was a pretty lenient schedule," if they were going to refer to it in job terms, then really it was more that Fox made his own hours. Where and when he took a job was left up to him. "You probably stay busy, even during regular ship operations, right?"

Atsuro thought over the latter half of Fox's words for a moment, averting his eyes for a moment. To be honest, he spent half of his time glued to his journal or seeing if he could pick up any stray radio signals... if he wasn't goofing off with the other radio ops. Now that he thought about it, he didn't seem to do all that much work.

He gave Fox a small laugh. "Nah, not really. Well..." Atsuro hesitated for a moment. He didn't want to look like he was a slacker in front of the new guy! Straightening and offering Fox a stick of ice cream, he continued, "I mean, it doesn't feel like I'm busy with work when I enjoy working with radios, you know?"

It felt as if it had been years since the last time Fox had tasted ice cream. He accepted the stick. He wasn't sure if it had really been that long, and it probably hadn't, but this stuff wasn't usually on hand in the town he'd been staying in.

"Right, right. Well it's good to do something you enjoy." Fox could sympathize, although a fascination with radios of all things was beyond him. To each his own.

Atsuro nodded in agreement, holding his ice cream with his mouth as he shut the ice chest. He lead the way out of the kitchen and mess hall and showed Fox pretty much everywhere, from the engine room to the cabins before finishing in the plane hangar. Turning to face Fox, Atsuro said cheerfully, mimicking something he'd heard in a radio play before, "And that concludes the tour of the Fiertia! Any questions?"

Throughout the day, Fox realized that he hadn't seen the captain. This was unfortunate, he'd been looking forward to meeting the man. Maybe it wasn't exactly that unusual, though. He was probably up to his ears in captain-things to be doing. He would catch him around, later.

He had to hold back a small snicker at the boy's delivery, "Nah, I think I got the hang of it."
