Yami was in the hanger doing maintenance on The Duelist when the whine of a landing plane pulled his attention out of the access panel he'd crammed his upper body into.

It wasn't a plane he recognized. As the pilot extracted himself from the cockpit, Yami noted that it wasn't someone he recognized either. He set down his tools and pulled a rag from a back pocket as he dropped down off the lift cuddled to the side of his plane.

"Hey," he commented by way of greeting, giving a nod as he approached. "May I help you?"

The young man working on his plane wasn't all that out of place in the hangar, and Ezio turned to look at him, offering a polite smile.

"I'm Ezio," He left of his last name this time, but almost reflexively added 'Auditore' before he caught himself. "Pleased to meet you," He made a show of checking himself over and then looking over his plane. It was a little dirty, and probably needed to be cleaned and worked on, but Ezio wasn't exactly a mechanic, or even that great of a pilot.

"I'm fine. But I could use a little help with the plane. I'm not exactly a mechanic myself," Nor was he particularly trustful of all the noise it had been making. "And I think my uncle would probably prefer I got it back to him in working order."

((OOC: F-feel free to ignore if you want to let this go. 9,9;;;))

Yami chuckled good-naturedly and nodded. "Ezio, pleased to meet you. I'm Yami." He offered no last name either. This . . . persona, or whatever it might be called that he was using these days, didn't have one.

Turning to the plane, he asked, "I'd be happy to take a look at it if you'd like. Anything in particular going on?"

"Planes aren't exactly something I'm too familiar with. Nothing has caught on fire or fallen off, but I've been flying out here for quite a while. It's... noisy, but not really much more than when I first got it." Ezio explained. The importance of regular maintenance had been very strongly stressed to him when he was learning how to fly.

He had picked this particular plane because of it's paint job. His uncle had several, and they were mostly the same model plane. This one had the greatest range among the available planes, and a nice white paint job. The others of this particular model had been brown or gray.

Yami grinned. "Yes, not catching fire or having anything fall off is generally a good start." He wasn't making fun of the man's lack of knowledge, just amused and playing along. He nodded. "A routine maintenance tune-up, then. How long were you in the air?"

"For about three hours today," Which would have left him with about an hour to go back and land, "But I've been doing four hour flights once a day for about a week now... not counting the flights it took me to get out here..." Doing a search of everywhere that might be what he was looking for because the directions he'd had were too vague for him to have anything else to go by had left him with a lot of flight time.

His uncle had men trying to dig up other leads, but this was the best one so far. And the fact that it was such a terrible lead was frustrating. He didn't even have a name to add to his list.

Now that le-sick (mostly) and Christmas has passed... flyfrommyself December 31 2009, 23:37:06 UTC
Not having reason particularly to think the man was looking for something, Yami's mind went to the logical (in his experience) thought on the matter.

"Flight training?" he asked with a grin, remembering logging similar hours when he was learning to pilot his own plane. He had turned to gather up his tools from his own plane as he listened to Ezio's explanation and was now coming back to get to work.

It had been a while since Ezio had first learned to fly, but he'd never flown this much, or with such frequency. Still, Yami's question offered a convenient way out of admitting what he was actually doing in the badlands.

"Yes. It's certainly been a learning experience," Although Ezio had only learned that he disliked long flights, and quite a bit more about the badlands terrain than he thought was really useful. He had also learned a great deal about where his target wasn't. "I think I'll be hearing that plane in my sleep."

Yami laughed goodnaturedly at that. "Yes, that happens sometimes. The 'fun' part is when you feel yourself dipping and banking in your sleep." Personally, he loved the feeling of flight - the thrilling rush of motion, the complete freedom under a bright, open sky - but he knew that not everyone did.

Still, something didn't quite add up in the man's story...

He opened a hatch into the engine compartment, asking casually as he reached in to start checking hose connections, "So what brings you here to our ship rather than back home, if your plane's not particularly acting up?" The tone was such that the man didn't have to answer. He was just making small talk, right?

"I've been flying across the badlands," Ezio explained. "Not out of a specific location all the time. The Silvana seemed as good a place to land as my next stop."

Planning out each little stop had been frustrating. A few times he'd had to reuse the same small town and go out and make loops around it to cover area before moving on. "Maybe a better place, even. With the Long Night coming up, I may just stay a while." Ezio's plans had not included being out in the badlands for that.

Yami paused in his exploration, nodding with a scowl of experience. "Agreed. You do not want to be out . . . any time around Long Night, to be honest. Especially not here in the Badlands." He turned to meet Ezio's eye. "Have you contacted one of the boatswains yet about staying?"

It was amazing how far one could get with not lying but without revealing anything incriminating.

In response to the question he shook his head. "No. And I don't know my way around the ship; didn't want to leave the hangar and get lost," Ezio explained. "I'll contact one shortly."

have a helping of tl;dr? XD;;;;;; S-sorry....Yami got talkative on me. =3 flyfrommyself January 1 2010, 18:17:49 UTC
Heh, it also helped that his "interrogator" wasn't really much digging...

Yami nodded as he turned his attention into the ship for a moment while he thought. Something was bothering him, something about the man's story that wasn't adding up. Ezio had been flying over the Badlands without too much of a flight plan from the sounds of it. He'd been flying so many hours a day for a week, plus the flights it took him to get out here. And the plane hadn't been getting any maintenance between flights thus far. Hn . . . not just simple training, as he had admittedly assumed at first. Perhaps Ezio was looking for something.

Or someone.

Yami rolled the sudden tension from his shoulders before Ezio could take note of the stiffness of his body. He hoped. If the man had come here looking for him, there's no way he could have failed to recognize Yami by now, and with no one else in the hanger, there'd be no reason to hold back that recognition. All right . . . while still a possibility, however improbable at this point, Yami would ( ... )

With several moments of silence, it seemed Ezio was in the clear. Still, it wouldn't hurt to check, Ezio wasn't going to get careless now. He looked closer, and all the bright colors seemed to fade away, as did most the lights, leaving various grays in their wake.

Although Yami was a different story. Ezio was quite surprised to see a distinct blue glow over him, rather than the more neutral gray tones most people had. It wasn't the red he had been concerned about, but Ezio wasn't going to question his good fortune today. He blinked a few times as his vision returned to normal, and realized he was being asked to get Yami's difference engine for him.

"I'll go get it," Ezio said, turning to the plane Yami had been working on. The difference engine wasn't difficult to locate, so once Ezio picked it up he started back over to his plane.

Yami flinched softly as an odd sensation crept over him like gooseflesh. A feeling of being . . . watched. Intently.

He did something, Summoner, the Shadows whispered faintly around him, though they expressed more in impressions and wisps of knowledge than concrete words. Nothing invasive or harmful, but . . . he just . . . read you.

Yami pulled back out of the plane and watched Ezio return with his difference engine. The Shadows were completely unconcerned with whatever Ezio had just done, so he wasn't worried either, not really. But he was still going to ask.

"Thank you," he commented as he accepted his journal from Ezio, then looked at the man, head tilting. "May I ask what you just did a moment ago?" His tone wasn't offended or confrontational at all, just curious.

For just a slight moment, Ezio wondered what Yami was talking about when asked what he had just done, but very quickly his mind came to a rather startling conclusion. Yami had somehow sense it when Ezio had looked at him using his talent... was that even possible? Ezio supposed that it wasn't impossible, but it was still surprising, and a little concerning. What if he eventually came across a target that could sense being looked at like that.

"I... looked at you," Ezio said, his confusion evident, although it could have been from Yami's question, or trying to figure out how to explain it. "Very carefully." Ezio added. He probably wouldn't have even said that much had Yami not been clearly an ally, and there were no other people around.
