Characters: Kristoph Gavin & Miles Bratsworth Edgeworth [
thedevilsmile &
edge_of_honor]
Content: Fresh out of Belarus, Edgeworth is (re)assgined to the Victoria II as it's newest officer - and of course as the First Mate, Kristoph is required to welcome him in. All in all, it's going to be the start of a beautiful relationship.
Setting: The (former) First Mate's office, the Victoria II.
Time: Backdated to five years ago, while Kristoph was still the first mate, Edgeworth was still better known as Bratsworth and Reial was still in one piece (generally).
Warnings: Bratsworth. That is all.
Today was the day.
He had been keeping track of the dates, of course - it had already been a week ever since the latest batch of graduates had left Belarus (he knew the dates, after all; he had been a student there himself); today would be the day where the said graduates would arrive on the designated places in the military in which they were assigned to, hopefully for a prospective career and a good, cushy life within the government.
While Kristoph had to admit the somewhat appetizing appeal of such an ideal, the man knew better than to leave his fate to something as shallow as luck and chance - no, his own accomplishments would be his own, all hard-worked for and earned under his name. Sure, there were the usual... complications in some points here and there, but they were nothing a few words and some cups of tea couldn't handle; though he did always have to regret when he had to pull out his real arsenal before he could get anywhere. Honestly, those fools could be so frustratingly stubborn at times - but if it was for his goal, and it was for the captain's words, he would still gladly do it. Perfection was after all unstoppable, and for a man like Manfred von Karma, it was the only path a man like him should ever walk on. A path that he too, was walking on in the hopes of being able to be like the fine admiral some day. What a day it would be then.
Still, he was forced to admit that today wasn't his day - no, today was the day of those greenhorn graduates; while there weren't many assigned to the Victoria II (a huge relief, since the ship could do better without all those sparkly-eyed idiots), there were still a handful that had been assigned here. One of the names in particular had stood out - it was a name he knew all too well, a name he had heard from the captain far too many times for his liking and a name that even back then, had already detested with a fair amount of distaste.
Miles Edgeworth.
It had of course, been the obvious thing for him to be (re)assigned here. While he wasn't here during the time he was on this ship as von Karma's personal cabin boy (or something like that, so he heard), he had heard enough already in the recent years. News about the famed admiral's wonderful protege, the man who excelled in all that he did and was seen as one of the biggest names right next to his captain. So of course, it wasn't so surprising that he was picked to be here (von Karma had of course requested it specifically) but even now as he stared at the file that was on his desk, Kristoph couldn't help but feel the urge to rip it into shreds instead.
The fact that he couldn't do that (lest he wanted the wrath of the man he respected) did nothing but aggravate his already (now) bad temper.
