Souji had already been in the air when things started falling apart. While part of him had wanted to be out on the front lines, he knew he'd be more useful in the skies with the other pilots, harassing the 4423. Though he thought von Karma's attack on the ship had been mostly unfounded, he had no real love for pirates either. After all, it was being a pirate that had caused his uncle Greg's death and his aunt's fall from grace, and his parents had made sure that fact was well burrowed into his mind from a young age.
But the kidnapping had thrown a wrench in that, and it was their own fault for rushing into battle. He had managed quite a few low spoken curses when the news reached his planes radio. They should have expected something like this... even if it wasn't from the pirates themselves. Why the -hell- would those two idiots show up -now- of all times? Souji could only shake his head in dull wonder...
Which was when he saw the -sharks-.
He blamed Miles for this, somehow or another. It was his older cousin who had first told a tiny Souji about the most terrifying hunters in the sky (except maybe a dragon, but they almost never ate people). And it had stuck with him for years after. Souji did not think of himself as a coward in the least bit. He had fought and killed monsters and Shadows and faced down some terrifying things over the last year and a half... but these were fucking sharks.
Hell, with some people it was spiders.
He had been all set to turn back to the Fiertia and hide in his room for a bit, but then the call from Yosuke came.
Damn it.
Souji wasn't about to leave his best friend out on the ringer like that... but he did have to take a few long minutes to steady himself. It was shameful and irrational and Souji hated it down to his core. He was the -Leader-. He was the one who stayed calm when everything else fell apart. If Yosuke saw him like this he'd never be able to live with himself afterwards. If Souji Seta had one true glaring flaw it was pride.
And so, he managed to get the Horus onto the Victoria II's deck (for someone like Abe it would have been easy, but for a beginner like Souji it took a little more careful working. Luckily Horus was a small plane), popping open the cockpit and watching the skies more then the few remaining pirates running around.
