Orihime followed a moment behind Yosuke, but as he rushed into the fray without her she hesitated a moment at the exit from the hangar. It could have been fatal in that clash of swords and smell of blood and gunpowder making a slippery mess on the deck and oh no that wasn't someone's finger at least ten feet away from where he was, but Yosuke was clearing a path through pirates around the two of them.

She herself was unarmed except for Tsubaki, who was more of a way to buy time to run away than anything else (no, I don't want to kill anyone, she snapped at him as he buzzed in her ear that she could make him far stronger if she wanted to), but she needed to keep that boy safe. He was holding his own so far, but she'd heard so many times that no matter how graceful your katas were it only saved you for a minute on the battlefield. Battle deck. Oh, forget the right words, she was not letting anyone get hurt today, navy or crewmates... the only ones in her head right now were the beginning of her kotodama, as she shouted out her friends' names and sent Baigon and the girls zipping to shield Yosuke's front and their sides with an orange pyramid of light. "Santen Kesshun! I reject! Take care of him for a minute, you guys!"

[ooc: anyone watching will see the shield, but unless they're spiritually aware themselves are not going to see the fairies making the points on the triangle.]

It had been a good while since Yosuke found himself in a battle like this, but he was pretty pleased to find that his own skills hadn't dulled in the least. The blades of his knives flashed as the brunette did his best to avoid and attack the pirates that went after him - no serious damages to them, only enough to put them out of commission for a bit. Even if the beat of the battle was more than addicting for him, the teenager knew better than to draw blood. He had promised himself that the only thing his weapons would kill would be the Shadows and the Shadows alone.

Ducking to the side to avoid one of the pirate's wild swing, Yosuke took a few steps back, getting his bearings before leaping forward and bringing out his elbow to strike his opponent in the face. The pirate stumbled back from the force, giving him a growl before lunging forth at him with sword at the ready. The brunette readied himself for the blow... but it never came as Inoue's shield came into existence.

The teenager turned around to the other with a grin as the pirate reeled back from having collided with the shield rather painfully. "Thanks a lot!"

"Just helping you out like you wanted!" she replied as she turned her head to face Yosuke. She backed a half-step closer and kept an eye out for her surroundings, hands up both to guard and direct her friends. She couldn't cover every inch of the both of them every second, but she could at least keep an eye on the boy's back while she was here.

As she turned back to look out for the rest of her crew, Orihime caught the same pirate charging Yosuke from the side, sword flying up to clash against dagger. At her mistress' frantic signal, Hinagiku whizzed up between the two, throwing both the pirate's and Yosuke's arms back from the shield's impact.

Yosuke had caught the pirate coming at him too, and instinctively brought out his arm in order to deflect the blow. But then the shield had came up again, and the brunette found himself yelping out in pain as his limb collided quite painfully against the shield just as the pirate reeled back from the crash as well. Ow, that seriously hurt.

The teenager took a moment to wring his arm, giving it a glance before looking up at the shield again with a slight wince. Okay... that seriously was some shield. He sure didn't expect it'd be so solid that it hurt this much. He turned to give Inoue a questioning glance as he put down his arm, gripping the handles of his knives tightly once more. If this shield was as hard as it was, then there was going to be no way he could fight outside of it.

Orihime could see the question in Yosuke's face and shook her head, her cheeks flushed from fear and embarrassment. "I can't move it without opening you up!"

The pirate had recovered from the shield and advanced on the only exposed part of the two of them: directly in front of Orihime. This was one of those times with bad guys that Tatsuki had taught her martial arts for, but as the pirate closed the distance between them and grinned at her like she and Yosuke were kids who needed to be taught a lesson, she lost all memories of "cool moves" except for the one attack Tatsuki had drilled into her: "If you want 'em to stay off you, you gotta kick 'em in the junk!"

She left the pirate crumpled on the deck with a "You'll be okay!" as the two of them stepped to another part of the deck. Her eyes darted around, looking for the injured or for further danger, and caught another pirate coming toward them, this one looking questionably human and definitely dangerous. They had to figure out another plan, and fast. She could move the shields and only protect his sides, but there had to be something else they could try first. "Can you try something else?" she breathed, wiping sweat on her sleeve. She'd never tried to maintain Santen Kesshun for anything longer than a few seconds: she wasn't tired, but it was a lot like running everywhere.

Now, *this* was what he'd been waiting for! After a few tussles in the navigation room, he'd left Mamori to defend it, knowing that other crew members were nearby to help guard their charts and instruments, if need be. Giving the girl a few of his extra knives, on the condition that she returned them once any fighting was done, also helped. She'd been downright vicious with that broom of hers, and he looked forward to seeing what else she could do.

In the meantime, however, there was fighting to be done! Blood had been spilled on the deck, and that only encouraged the Jager to charge toward Yosuke and Orihime, claws spread and an eerie leer on his face. He'd go for whichever of them charged first.

The brunette could only frown and bite the bottom of his lip in frustration when Inoue answered his wordless question, his mind racing as he tried to think about the situation despite the adrenaline running within his system. How the hell can I attack while being in the shield...?

There was not much time to think about it though as the pirate attacked them again, but fortunately the other took care of him pretty easily - Yosuke did have to somewhat wince in sympathy at the vicious kick the girl delivered to their enemy's... well. He just hoped the guy was going to be fine after this was over. Following the girl, the teenager made it a point to remain within the shield; a good plan, considering how he had to bolt a little at the sight of their new opponent. Definitely not human, and looking very very dangerous.

He looked over towards Inoue at the question, sweat on his brow as his mind only came to one solution. Against such a foe, this might possibly be the only way he could battle and ensure he was safe at the same time... with an exhale, Yosuke nodded once in response before he looked back towards their foe, flipping his knives and then gripping them tight as his eyes flashed with power. His conciousness reached out, feeling and sensing the power that was lying within him, the power that had been aching to come out after such a long time, to rear its head once more out to the world--

--he twirled in mid-air, flipping as his knives struck solid air and the area around them sounded with the noise of breaking glass.

"Let's do this, Jiraiya!"

His Persona burst out from behind him at that cry, its form humming with power as Jiraiya materialized into the world. It twirled around as it appeared, the scarf around its neck flapping with the wind as it floated behind the brunette, ready for the battle that was about to come upon them.

Yosuke only grinned slightly to himself as he readied his knives. Now this was what he'd be waiting for.

What in the world were these guys? First the monster - demi-human - whatever he was advancing on them to shred them apart with his claws, then Yosuke materializing a giant frogman from nowhere to fight it off. Orihime definitely had underestimated the guy; with the confidence he'd been radiating and the ease he had called on Jiraiya there was no way this was his first fight.

Her eyes went wide at the spectacle of creature versus creature as she breathed harder, putting more effort into keeping the shield up and looking out for foes behind them. Even if Yosuke had a friend with him to fight, this opponent looked more dangerous than any of the pirates they'd faced earlier.

Dimo only looked vaguely surprised at Yosuke's transformation. He'd seen a lot of strange things in his long life, and this was another one to add to the list. The girl didn't look as though she were moving any closer, so he fixed his yellow eyes on his other opponent and sprang for him. He had knives of his own, both in the worn brown bandolier that he wore across his chest and concealed in each boot, but he was eager to feel flesh yield under his own hands. His first swipe was aimed squarely at the brunette's right shoulder, the claws of Dimo's left hand prepared to slash across his chest to the opposite hip. It was more a feint than anything else. He wanted to see exactly what he was up against here, and hopefully hs adversary would underestimate his attack and assume that he didn't have a plan.

S'cool! Just glad you're back. :D secondarcana October 30 2009, 23:56:30 UTC
Honed by the many battles with the Shadows, Yosuke could easily see the swipes coming from him and quickly dodged to the side and avoided it. Jiraiya followed behind him, floating along like a ghostly spectre; a Persona wasn't able to deal any damage to the physical world by its own unless its user made it so, and even then the price for that was quite... bad.

The second swipe was barely avoided as well, thanks to the brunette doing some fancy footwork. Once he had managed to have his ground though, the teenager quickly did his counterattack. His eyes flashed with the power of his Persona as he channelled his magic through the avatar and whipped his knives out while Jiraiya twirled behind him. Bringing down his knives just as the Persona finished its twirl, the sound of shattering glass sounded again and a huge gust of wind appeared from under Dimo's feet with the intention of sweeping off and possibly doing some damage to him.

The shield hummed and sparked around Orihime and Yosuke as she watched the battle flow away from their little knot. She hoped any other pirates stayed away: She couldn't cover Yosuke enough for him to safely control Jiraiya as well as the both of them fighting off more people through the gap.

Lily fluttered up around her face, panting from the effort of staying in the air and keeping up the enchantment. "Let him do it! He'll be fine!" the fairy sputtered out.

She shook her head. "Just a little longer!" After this monster - what else could he be, he was trying to rip them apart with his hands - went down, Yosuke's friend could blow away anyone else that tried to take them on.

The sudden gust of wind did indeed catch the Jager off-guard, but only for a moment. Centuries of being in the military had trained him to look for opportunities where others might not see them, and Dimo put all of his trust into his uncanny reflexes and strength. Knocked back across the deck by the gale, he collided with the side of the hull. Tucking his feet under him, Dimo rolled forward and behind a crate, where hopefully the wind couldn't reach him. Readying a throwing knife in either hand, he stood, a savage grin on his face, and almost casually threw one toward each of his opponents.

"Hyu vanna play rough, eh?" he growled enthusiastically. "Hit me vith hyu best shot."

Yosuke felt the momentary rush of energy returning to him as Jiraiya withdrew back into his mind once the Garula spell was cast - summoning a Persona was like pulling out a part of yourself, and the amount of energy and concentration used to bring it out was always quite a bit. It was one of the main reasons why not many people were able to posses and use the power of a Persona; only people with the strongest of minds and wills were gifted with this ability.

Tightening the grip he had on his knives, the brunette immediately reacted when Dimo threw the knives at him, raising them in a cross to defend himself. Though it wasn't needed, since he was behind Inoue's shield - the knives bounced off them with the loud clang of metal against metaphyscial magic. Wasting no time after that, Yosuke summoned out his Persona once more: this time directing his own energy for a physical attack as Jiraiya charged forth with its shuriken blades flashing at Dimo.

Despite all of Orihime's encouragements, the barrier started to flicker. She felt the three fairies around her straining to stay connected to her and each other, drawing closer until the shield dwindled to a small panel in front of Yosuke, blocking his way to the pirate, but not Dimo's way to them. Choking down the panic rising in her throat, she called Yosuke's attention for a second as the Persona charged. "This is the best I can do right now! Can you fight around it or do you want me to drop it?"

As Jiraiya charged toward him, Dimo dropped to all fours, dodging the Persona's blades as best he could. One of them caught him on the left shoulder, its sharp edge slashing through his grey cotton shirt and across the green skin below in a thin line. Purplish-red blood welled up from the wound, but the Jager's showed no sign of being concerned. He'd taken worse before.

The frog-like creature that had just attacked him didn't seem to be the most immediate threat here, and Dimo continued to advance on the pair while occasionally glancing back to see where Jiraiya was. He still had several more blades of his own, and from the looks of it, whatever magical defense the two had wasn't going to last long.

Jiraiya withdrew back into his mind once it had burst out for its Sonic Punch attack. Yosuke was kind of momentarily annoyed that he had only managed to deal so little damage with it, but it was something that couldn't be helped; his Persona was more of a spellcaster rather than a physical brawler (unlike two other people who came into mind there and then), so it wasn't a surprise that Jiraiya wasn't going to be able to do much in the first place.

Regardless, a blow was a blow, and that was more than enough for the brunette. The teenager bit on his bottom lip as he saw the shield faltering - he should have figured Inoue wasn't going to be able to hold up the defence for so long - and turned to the other at her question.

"Drop it!" he exclaimed back, sparing a glance at the advancing Jager and turned back again. He couldn't let Inoue force herself too much - she had done quite a lot already, and pushing her anymore would only cause nothing but trouble for them in the long run. Yosuke gritted his teeth and pulled out his Persona once more, Jiraiya bursting forth yet again in a shower of magic and echoing chimes as it abruptly burst out a flash of light before Dimo in an attempt to confuse him and throw him off balance.
