HAVE A MAXIM!

Even though he missed Mechanicsburg already, Maxim had to admit that being back with the crew was rather nice, especially now that he had two (almost) functional hands again.

Not being able to find Dimo anywhere on the ship Maxim assumed that he'd gone down for a soak in the hot springs and thought that sounded rather nice. He'd have to keep his right arm out of the water though, as it was still all bandaged up. That meant no "play time". Oh well. Always time for that later.

It didn't take long for Maxim to pick up on Dimo's scent and follow it to his current location. Although... it was very odd. There was another scent along with it that was extremely familiar but Maxim hadn't sensed it in a very long time. It took him a moment or two to place it but when he did his whole face lit up in excitement.

Sure enough, there they were just around the corner; Dimo and a very excited, bouncy Ognian. Striding forward to greet them and grinning from ear to ear, Maxim shouted out, "HEY! Oggie!"

He didn't care for the moment why Oggie was there or when he'd arrived or how he knew where to find them or any of the other details. He was just more happy than he could express to have his whole pack together again.

Oggie laughed. "Hy told hyu Hy'd be here lickity-splitz, eh? Und ja, he's goot, though Hy's supposed to send him beck to Mizz Agatha now dot Hy'z here und finds hyu. He'z mechenical horze she built for me to get here before hyuz guys left." He grinned broadly. "Iz gots vings too, zo Hy gots to fly here. It vas fon!"

He started to say more, but a shout from a ways to his left pulled his attention instantly, and he shouted in excitement. "MAXIM!!" The next instant saw him bounding over to and tackling his fellow Jäger like he'd done with Dimo.

De Boyz had been reunited, and he knew Jenka was around here somewhere too. Oggie couldn't have been more ecstatic. God, but he'd missed his pack!

Laughing heartily, Dimo clapped Oggie on the back with a force that would have sent most other people tumbling head-over-heels down the street. His fellow Jager could take it, though, and probably even enjoyed not having to watch himself quite as much. They just made humans so damned breakable...

And speaking of "breakable", Dimo gritted his teeth as Ognian turned and ran toward Maxim to give him a hug too. "Vatch de hand, hyu eediot!" he yelled. "Iz new, und schtill healing!"

Laughing as Ognian bear-hugged him (nearly knocking him to the ground, but he wasn't going to admit that), Maxim flung his arms around his long-since seen friend. Of course, he wasn't thinking about his still-healing hand at all and when Dimo reprimanded Oggie, Maxim rolled his eyes.

"Tch. Dun vorry zo moch. It'z almost finished healink ennyvay."

Oggie bounced as he hugged his brother. "Gott, Hy'z missed hyu zo moch!" He let go to step back and catch up Maxim's hand. "Lemme see, lemme see! Ja, Mizz Agatha told me she'd dun dis. Hy must haf missed hyu guys by only a day or zo!"

Upon being reprimanded for his worry Dimo shrugged and laughed. "Can't blame me too much," he replied as bent closer to examine the hand with Oggie. "Ve vent to a lot of trouble to get dot. Vouldn't vant it to fall off de forst time hyu uzes it." The stitches were still quite obvious, of course, but that was more for show than anything else. The flesh looked to be healing quite smoothly, a puckered and still somewhat pink scar showing beneath the stitches.

"Must have, but hyu's here now. Dot's de best of all of it!" Dimo paused to consider their options. "Ve can probably get hyu a job on de ship, even. Make sure ve doezn't get broken up again."

Maxim raised his eyebrows at Ognian as his hand was examined. "Demn. Only a few days? Vot luck."

He flexed his fingers as best he could. The hand and arm was bandaged all the way down to his elbow, but it was a light bandage now, mostly just to keep the wound clean. The bones, muscles, and tendons were all healed and he was now mostly just working on getting strength in this jar-grown appendage.

When Dimo mentioned getting Oggie a job Maxim furrowed his brows. "Oh, hyu ain't already vorkink on de ship? Hy thought dot'z vhy hyu vos here!" He chuckled and shook his head. "Yah, Hy dun tinks de captain vould mind heffink anodder Jäger around to help vit de tough shtuff." He grinned proudly.

"De tough shtuff? Vhat, ve take on de Ivonan military or zometing?" He laughed. "Dot be fon, Hy tink." He shook his head. "No, Hy gots beck home to Mechenicsborg und saw de Mistress. She gave me a difference engine und Hy put op a call to hyu guys. Dimo und Jenka - und Mama - heard it und told me to come here. Zo Hy'z here!" He threw up his arms in emphasis, grinning like a sugar-high schoolboy. Then he looked back and forth between his brothers. "Hyu really tinks dey take me on? Hyu kin shpeak for me - Hy's a goot vorker!"

"Of courze ve puts in a goot vord for hyu!" Dimo exclaimed, feeling very satisfied with himself indeed at this particular point in time. That hand of Maxim's was coming along well, and the family was together again at last. "De crew could uze hyu, Ognian," he remarked in a slightly more subdued tone, though it would still be obvious how happy he was at the way that his plan had pulled together. "Ve's had lots of crewmates leave--guess dey's just needing to do odder schtuff, or found better opportunities. But vith hyu on board, vell, I tink should be eazy to make up for a lack of extra pipples." Dimo slung a companionable arm around Oggie's shoulders. "Hyu vorks just as hard as three or four normal pipples, after all."

"Take on de Ivonan military?" Maxim chuckled. "Dot does sound like fon. Und in de future it probably ain't gun be too far off." As ominous as that would have sounded to any other person, Maxim knew this would get Oggie excited. All Jägers enjoyed a good war and Oggie was certainly no exception.

He nodded in agreement with Dimo. "Yah, dot's true. Ve's a bit short on crew lately. Hy dun tink hyu heff enny trouble gettink a shpot on boardt. Besides, Hy tinks de Captain's feelink a bit stressed lately. More hends to help vit shtuff iz chust vot she needs."

Sighing wistfully, Maxim looked down at his bandaged arm. "Hy ain't been very goot help lately. Bot dot's gun change real soon." He grinned at Dimo and draped his arm around Oggie from the other side, "Zo, how's about ve go find a hot spring und do zum catchink op?"

Giddy as a schoolboy, Oggie wrapped his arms back around his brothers' waists, careful not to hit the back of Dimo's head with the lowest blade of his tri-axe. "Oooh, dot zounds goot! Und it'z hokay. Ve make Captain heppy! Vhat else dey need vhen dey gotz five Jägers on board!"

With that, he happily followed their lead to a hot spring. It felt like coming home!
