Well, Miles was a sell out, there were no two ways about it. He was no longer the boy she had grown up with, but a military man through and through, set on promotion and pleasing his superiors. Men like that lacked any kind of scruples, but he had been her friend once. And he had sent her a card when the Solomon went down last year. She imagined he would have come to see her, if he had been as close as she was to him now. She did not mention the past affection or the repayment for his good deed, however.

"You know how I feel about work, Miles. I would much rather come bother you." She said, with a smile.

Yurika handed him a dime thriller, of the kind he had once secreted to her under her parents' noses. The man on the cover was wearing a trench coat, half covered in shadows. The title read The Man in Green though there was no man wearing any green present on the cover or mentioned in the blurb on the back of the book. Then she handed him another of similar quality, and a small bottle of whiskey.

"Probably you drink fancier stuff if you have a choice. That's all I could manage to trade for up here though. It's an early Lunasa present. " She crossed her arms. "I guess you could have used these while you were in jail."

Edgeworth took the thriller and looked over the cover and the back. While it wasn't his usual choice of reading (at least, not lately), it provided an excuse not to look at her. He flipped through the page corners with his thumb before he set it down, and said, "I don't exactly have a choice now, do I?"

He wasn't quite sure how to deal with this. If Yurika had been less kind and a little more jeering, he would have been in his element. If she had just avoided him completely, well, all the better. These...niceties were unexpected.

"But thank you," he said stiffly. "You didn't need to do this, though."

She shrugged. "Guess not." she said.

This meeting was getting too congenial for her taste as well. She grinned. "Anyway the whole boat is talking about you. How did you end up in prison? Something we don't know about you? I wouldn't have pegged you as the sort. And really, Miles. Attempted murder?" Her eyes twinkled. "How could you? And when I respected you so much! I guess I'll just have to look up to someone else now."

The corner of Edgeworth's left eye twitched, and a scowl quickly reappeared on his face before he turned away from her.

"You, of all people, should know that accusation is complete trash," he stated. "Second of all, those two... incidents were completely unrelated. And third of all, I was simply defending myself, nothing more."

It took him a moment to realize how terrible that sounded, and he quickly added, "Against someone at the races."

"Ooo." Dojima said, clicking her teeth. "Fighting. Naughty, Miles." She shook her head.

"Well." she stood and smiled at him. "Enjoy the book. And the booze. I'll be on my way. Some of us have to work."

She made her way to the door, but she paused before she left and looked at him, shaking her head. For a brief moment her tone was sincere. "Be careful, Miles."

Some of us...some of us have to work?! How could someone who made it their life goal to be as lazy and shiftless as humanly possible say that?! Edgeworth clenched his jaw and glared at her ...

...only to see a look of genuine concern. He blinked and quickly looked away, head held high, but anger cooled.

"Hmph. I know perfectly well how to take care of myself - there's no reason for you to be concerned."

Yurika snorted, the sincere expression gone in a flash. "I'm only concerned for that fellow who thinks you have it in for him. God help him if he's right." she winked

"So long, Miles." She said, closing the door behind herself.

As she walked down the hall she started to whistle to herself to cover her thoughts and wondered why she bothered to worry about a man like that. It wasn't as if there was much left of her old friend in the current first mate.

On the other hand she thought he was on his way to finding Von Karma's bad side. Not the peevish impossible to please bad side, but his real bad side. The side that made for nasty rumors and people being sent to investigate... and really, she couldn't help but feel sorry for anyone who found themselves there.
