Somehow, it was ironic that a creature of the darkness could not partake in the darkness itself; that sweet, sometimes frightening time of enveloping blackness called sleep. Sebastian could not sleep-- he had never slept once during his time as a demon. The many things one could do with so many extra hours, never needing to pause from important work or obligations. Under Ciel Phantomhive, Sebastian had utilized much of these extra hours to complete the extensive research that some cases required, and back at the Phantomhive mansion, he could have done all of this without being questioned. There were only four other servants there aside from him, the house was large enough to get lost in, and excuses could be made since he was the butler.
But here on the Fiertia, he had to exercise much more caution. There were crowds of people around at all times of the day, liable to see anything he did; the ship was small and cramped at best, and here he did not have the high authority he did before. Sebastian found it more of a necessity to stay in his room during the night, to feign sleeping when every one else was, so as to not draw attention to his constant night-owl tendencies.
Tonight-- or rather, this morning-- the butler was in the kitchen. The ever-efficient Sebastian had finished all the paperwork Ciel had left for him four hours ago, and now quietly experimented with some new dessert ideas he had been wanting to try out. The counter, despite being littered with bowls and cutlery, still kept a semblance of orderliness, and it was a critical eye that the demon looked it over, the oven dinging in the background.
"My my, I will have to clean up. I cannot have the kitchen in a disarray during breakfast preparation." He slid the pan of double chocolate chip cookies out of the oven and set them on the table before turning and starting to tidy up.
