Knee or no knee, if Shinjiro had to stay in his room for another day, with nothing to do but stare at the walls... he was going to go mad. It wasn't a matter of cabin fever, or loneliness. God, if it had been he would have gotten over it. But with nothing to do but stare at his jounral he often felt his mind wandering back to the attack. Then when sleep finally took him, he would dream about it.

So in an act of desperation he had grabbed a cabin boy and ordered them to sneak into the infirmary and get him some crutches. Watson would kill him if he was caught, but he'd risk his leg for his mental well being.

It was after slowly and carefully reaching the deck that Shinjiro spotted the blond stranger. "Hey! You supposed to be here?" he called out, his haggard appearance making him look rather intimidating even with the walking aid.

The first thing Ramza noticed WAS the walking aid. Was the man all right?

...well, obviously not with the way he was moving...

He moved towards the man, offering him an arm to steady himself, if he needed it.

"Yes, I am new on this vessel. But nevermind that, are you all right?"

The sudden amount of injured and sick in the ship at the last leg of the races had taken him by surprise, but he had attempted to deal with them as efficiently as he could manage, with an acceptable degree of success. Watson had had far worse cases before in the navy, and he was not one to complain.

Nevertheless, the fact still remained that his duties had stopped him from his daily exercises, and he was eager to resume his routine now that things were slowing down. Watson was on the deck at that moment, walking around. His limp was barely perceptible now, though his thigh still ached. It was simply that he had gotten more used to it.

It was then that he saw Shinjiro and a stranger on the deck together. More importantly, Shinjiro. Watson frowned a mighty frown and made his way to the pair, setting aside introductions with the blond stranger for the moment in favor of giving Shinjiro his attention. All of it.

"Shinjiro, will you kindly explain what you're doing here when I specifically asked you to remain in bed for the next days?"

Shinjiro didn't move to use the offered aid, frowning at the blond. But any retort was lost when he saw Watson.

"Oh hell..." he muttered. it was too late to run... he'd just have to take the brow beating he was about to get. He knew the doctor meant well, and was just making sure he didn't hurt himself more... but it didn't mean he LIKED it.

And Watson could have a hardcore glare when he wanted too. Geeze. "I had to get out Doc. That room is killing me."

...Doc? So this man was one of the doctors?

And the other man..."Shinjiro", was it, was walking around when he was not supposed to be doing so? Dodging his sickbed like he was a stubborn child?

...Ramza...of course could not say much. He and Delita had always played together, sick or no. Oftentimes their sisters would have to chase them back to bed, eventually ending with the two sitting in the same room and playing together, Tietra and Alma sitting stubbornly outside their door.

...That is, until they decided to take the window. Then the girls chased them through the garden, and then...

Ah...those were the days.

Ramza furrowed his brow in concern, looking the man over, before turning to the doctor.

"Forgive me, Doctor, I had no idea that this man was not supposed to be out of bed. If I had known, I would have escorted him back immediately."

"Nonsense, Shinjiro, your room is not out to maim you," he said, mildly more brusque than usual. It came from being the physician of stubborn soldiers in the past, and Watson had learned early on not to let them do as they pleased lest they accidentally lose an arm or a leg in the process of getting better. "And if you are so uncomfortable there, you could have asked and I would have put you up in the infirmary. There are plenty of things in the infirmary to do."

It was then that he took better notice of the stranger, and he nodded at him politely in greeting. "It is quite all right, sir. I had also underestimated his stubbornness." And here, he allowed himself to show a hint of the fondness he had for the cook. "Are you a new crew member, sir?" Possibly the new quartermaster. What was his name? Ruglia.

Shinjiro frowned, his expression almost a pout if it had been on any other man. "Can't fucking sleep, can't fucking move. What do you want me to do Doc, rot?" He was exaggerating a bit, but it was seriously starting to bother him.

He too turned towards Ramza, arching a brow and looking the blond over carefully.

"I am Ramza Ruglia, the new Quartermaster." Ramza looked at the doctor a moment in response to his query.

Though his attentions were then turned entirely on Shinjiro. He understood the sentiment, truly he did, but the truth stood that if he was unwell, especially if the Doctor himself had come out to scold him for being out of bed...

Then it was not something to simply sit around and complain about. He needed bedrest.

"Lord Shinjiro," there he was, slipping into his old dialect again, "I understand the sentiment, I truly do. However, regardless, it is important when you are in your condition to get bed rest. You mustn't walk around, even with assistance, as what would happen if you had made your knee worse? Would you not, then, have to spend more time in bed, and 'rot', as you say, further?"

"Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Ruglia," he said briskly, reaching over to shake the new quartermaster's hand. "Doctor John W. We met on the network." The new crew member seemed rather young to him, for a quartermaster, though he had learned long ago not to underestimate people of younger years.

Watson turned to Shinjiro, then, and with a half-amused expression on his face. "Man has a point. But no, I do not expect you to rot, as you say. You're welcome to spend your resting days in the infirmary with me -- I'm sure I can find things for you to do with your hands, if it comes down to it. Or perhaps the other officers can find you something to occupy yourself with?"

"Lord?" Shinji snorted, looking both horrified and amused, all mixed with shock. "You're talking to the wrong guy for a title."

"...really?" he asked in response to Watson's offer. "Well... has to be better then sitting around... Sorry you caught me out here Ruglia." He leaned on his crutch and started moving back towards the stairs, stubborn till the end.

Ramza took the Doctor's hand and shook it with a firm grip, giving him a nod at the introduction.

But then he turned his full attention to Shinjiro.

"I am sorry, Mister Shinjiro," There, properly corrected. "It is...a habit, perhaps."

And honestly, Ramza would have been okay with that being the end of their meeting, or at least would have chatted with Dr. W along the way back to the infirmary...

...Until Shinji started moving back by himself.

Hero complex, go! Ramza was already at the man's side, moving right in step with him.

"You should not move on your own, even with a crutch. Please...let me help you."

On his end, Watson only deigned to walk beside the pair. Shinjiro was a stubborn man at best and getting him back to bed, Watson suspected, was as far as he would get with the boy. Getting him to accept help to said bed would be far beyond his abilities.

Master Ruglia, though, could attempt in his stead. Watson made a vague, amused sound.

"I don't need help." Shinjiro replied sullenly. He made no move to make Ramza leave, but nor did he take the offer. A man has this little thing called pride, you see...

"And you're not helping." He added, glaring weakly at Watson and his amusement.

"You say you do not need help," Ramza said, expression obviously clouded with worry. "Even though your condition is as it is. Please, let me help."

He was so stubborn. Just like Delita was. Just like he was and still is.

...

Somehow, thinking about that dampened his gait somewhat.

"Look what you did, Shinjiro," Watson teased with a fair twinkle in his eyes, pouncing on the opportunity. Though he did wonder what caused the quartermaster to wear such an expression, it was not in his right to pry. "You've made him sad. Let the good man help you to the infirmary, and we will both thank you for it."

His face was that of an innocent gentleman's.

Shinjiro just...stared at the doctor for a moment. He too had noticed the new guys face fall a little, but he wasn't about to prod. But now Watson had him in a verbal corner. Guy was clever, Shinji would give him that.

"Tch... fine, whatever. Do what you want." He stopped walking, no longer making a true effort to kill his abused knee anymore.
