A fine, but comparatively tame, pair of breasts were seated in a table in the corner of one of the bars. The woman they were attached to was drinking a light, fruity drink, and seemed to be watching the world go by under lidded eyes. Something in those eyes, though, said that she wasn't quite content just to watch. Her gaze was just a little bit to keen.

She caught sight of a strange-looking man. Attractive, if you were into feminine men, which she certainly was not, but he had weird feather things attached to his eye. How very curious. "Get into a scrap with a rooster?" she asked as he went by. "Yeah, I'm talking to you, Feathers."

He turned around and-oh, great, these ones were at the very least modestly covered. The question caught him off guard, but he very seriously remarked, "Roosters' feathers aren't quite bright enough. These would need to have been dyed. They're macaw feathers, actually."

That was a bit of an odd way to start conversation, he thought as he sat down, unsure of whether her comment was supposed to be insulting, complimentary, or neither. He blamed it, mentally, on her eyes. Those were the eyes of a charming and cunning woman, the kind that always got what she sought after. She was probably harmless, maybe looking for a free drink or two.

"Feathers are such underrated accessories," he commented to her before turning to the bar. "And always beautiful when worn correctly. Whiskey sour, please."

"Whatever floats your boat," she said, tracing the rim of her drink with one finger. "You take 'em off every night and then glue 'em the next morning? Sounds like a bother to me." Make conversation, make conversation. And she was curious about how the gaudy things stayed on.

"Oh, no. I get new ones. I can't wear the same pair twice. The glue buildup would be so ugly." He made a sort of disgusted face. "It's the same kind women use to glue on false eyelashes, but I daresay I'd look rather odd with those."

When he smiled, his eyebrows arched in a manner that could only possibly be described as "cute."

If there was one thing Hughes was good at, it was being loud and attracting all sorts of attention when he wanted to. He had stationed himself as the ticket master of the plays, selling them to everyone and their mothers -- that had gone pretty well, considering how full each showing of the Steel Samurai was every night. The Way had just finished its showing for the day and, still rather energetic from another successful show night, was eager to make more sales.

"Gunsmoke Bar!" he said cheerfully and loudly at the foot of the Way's gangplank. "Gunsmoke Bar, best bar in Reial! Come on up and try the traveling Gunsmoke Bar and drink the best vodka you can ever find in the continent!" One might say that he was being embarrassing, but his enthusiasm clouded it all.

As Yumichika passed the odd man boasting the greatness of the bar, he had an odd urge to laugh, although he was sure that was just excess happiness, and not at this poor, quite embarrassing stranger.

Maybe.

Still, he had wanted a recommendation and had gotten one. It was a message or serendipity or one of those things that he sort-of, sort-of-didn't believe in. "And where is this bar?" asked Yumichika. His common sense told him that stopping for so long as to glance twice at this odd man was probably not a good idea, but he ignored it.

A customer! Hughes nearly did a double-take on the weird feather thing on Yumichika's eyebrows, but recovered so quickly his surprise showed in no more than a blink. "Why, here in our very own Winding Way! This way, sir, let me lead you to the door to happiness!" he said with excessive flourish, gesturing for Yumichika to step on the gangplank. The sounds of loud laughter and clinking of glass drifted down from them from the bar set up at one end of the deck, brightly lit against the dark sky.

"Have you seen the enactment of the Steel Samurai, sir?" he asked with great energy, referring to the play the crew members of the Way was throwing for this event. "The great Steel Samurai versus the Evil Magistrate, in a beautiful fight to the death!"

Now he did laugh. "The Steel Samurai?" he repeated. "No, I haven't." He sounded more mocking than he really had meant, but he didn't regret it. He followed the man in and was unsurprised to find so many people, thinking most of them must be crew.

He thought having a bar on-ship was kind of a nice sentiment, but then realized it probably wasn't ever quiet. The jealousy passed.

"I'll have one of those famed vodkas, then," he told the bartender. "Join me for a drink?"

With the races tomorrow and his little surprise to his Romeo is sleeping peacefully, Grell was enjoying the evening with a small drink. Even though he isn't much of a big major drinker unlike his close friend, that doesn't mean he can get a glass ever now and then. Besides, his wallet was still in a good decent amount.

His emerald eyes gazed around outside since he was standing around next to the entrance, looking at the many men, women, and sometimes an animal will appear among the crowd. He noticed a man...who wore feathers on his eye. Since it appears to be looking around, he set down his drink and went out to go greet him.

"Oh, are you lost, my dear sir?"

One man had told Yumichika he knew of a great bar, but it was all the way past the far edge of town, and in the dim light, Yumichika could see oddly garish rings adorning his fingers and contrasting with what seemed to be a set of some of the most crooked teeth he'd ever seen outside a shark's mouth.

Another had told him that he'd give him a list of all the best bars in town if he'd take him there and buy him a drink. He wasn't sure whether to recoil in disgust at his unkempt (and molding?) appearance, or direct him to some sort of homeless facility, because unless he was pestering Yumichika for a drink so he could shower with it, he'd do much better with a bed and somewhere to get clean.

So when Grell asked him, he turned around and was fully prepared to defend himself against the worst-"Oh. No, I'm just looking for a good bar."

Ah. It's true that there is many bars, but due to the fact that he knows Kara, fellow crew mate who appears to be an expert at the bars, Grell knows which ones are good and which ones that doesn't meet up to his standards. He pushed up his glasses a bit, still having such a sly smile on his lips.

"Ah. The one that I'm at is pretty good." It's nothing fancy, but it's far from a place where all the drunks are. And it was just right behind him. "Perhaps I can offer you a drink and such?" Since he was in the best of moods this evening.

"Now that would be wonderful," Yumichika replied to his fellow shipmate and boatswain (not that he knew who Grell was.) He gave a smile back-not nearly as sly, but the sentiment was much the same. He wondered how many drinks it would take before he could ask the man just what exactly his teeth were all about.

Usually he thought he might be a little off-put by an appearance as odd as Grell's, but there was something oddly beautiful about how he pulled the whole thing off so effortlessly. He admired people like that, people like himself, of course.
