Spectator Thread--Race Two peoplenpudding July 4 2009, 01:55:12 UTC
Millie had meant to watch all the races, but she'd gotten distracted by a message from HQ, and missed the first one.

Oh well, that just meant she had plenty of time for the second race! Millie sat on the bleachers, Meg in her sling on her lap, both ready for the race to start.

Shit shit shit shit shit.

Had that idiot really entered the races? No way. He couldn't have. Arthur ran through the crowd, getting up as close as he could to see spectacle, Kiku bounding behind him and doing a great job of keeping up. His eyes scanned the planes until, at last, he caught sight of the red, white, and blue colors.

Oh, God. Was he serious? He wasn't, right? No, this was Alfred. He was deadly serious.

"You dumbass!"

This was going to be so much fun. Greta had decided to skip the first race, reasoning that a lot more people would be there, and it would be much too crowded for even a little girl and her puppy to squeeze into. The stadium was still pretty full during the second race, but she was able to spot a spot next to Millie.

"Hi Ms. Millie!" she chirped. "Oh, and hello, Meg!" She waved a little to the cooing creature on the woman's lap before settling down in the seat next to her. Vincent set his head on his owner's lap, a little tired from fighting the crowds getting in. But his interest was perked immediately when a cat-like creature streaked past, following its own owner. He started barking loudly. Greta squeaked and tried to cover his mouth.

"Isn't that Mr. Kirkland?"

"Lieutenant Kirkland? What's wrong?"

Why was he getting mad at one of the pilots?

Arthur almost did not hear Millie over his frustration. He turned around, looking rather disgruntled. "Miss Thompson. Greta." He honestly did not know what to say to them. He probably looked like a mad-man.

Kiku just meowed, delighted.

"Hello, Mr. Kirkland," Greta chirped, but the little crease in her brow gave away her concern for him. "Yes, is something wrong?" She hesitated a little before offering, "You look a little panicked, sir."

Kiku caught Vincent's attention, and he lowered himself into a bow, fluffy tail wagging playfully.

"Well, more than a little, really," Millie admitted. Meg spotted Vincent and Kiku, and started trying to get their attention. She wanted to play.

How nice to have playmates! Kiku was already poking at Vincent and Meg.

"I apologize for worrying you," Arthur replied, combing his fingers through his hair. "It's just... one of the people down there is injured and probably shouldn't be racing at all." It wasn't as though he could do anything to stop it, though. He turned his head back towards the track.

Greta clasped her hands, a worried look going over her features. "Oh no! Should we tell someone? We can't let someone race when they're hurt..." But then what would become of the races? "Wouldn't that person know better?"

She'd talked to Alfred before, but she obviously didn't know him very well.

Vincent turned to Millie, setting his paws lightly on her lap and looking expectantly at her. He would like Meg to play with them too, and he would take really good care of her!

Millie carefully got Meg out of her sling, and placed her on Vincent's back. "Be careful, now, okay?" Meg chirpped and started pulling on Kiku's tail. "Who's hurt?" she asked Arthur, turning back to the humans. "And how badly?"

Unfortunately, Greta, that person did not know any better. "The guy out there in the crazy costume. He was in the cactaur battle and..." Almost died. Arthur swiveled around to the ladies once more. "...He's in no condition to race! But that dumb lummox won't listen to reason!"

Greta leaned forward, peering at the different planes until her eyes alighted on the one that might fit Arthur's description. "The cactuar battle..." That was when those odd little cactus creatures attacked the 4423, right? The little girl winced. "What should we do? Should we tell one of the race officials?"

Vincent carefully made his way over to Kiku with Meg on his back. He watched the little baby creature protectively, but still gave her his paw to play with as well.

Ouch. Millie knew from painful experience--cacutars were nasty little creatures.

"Did his medic say he was okay to fly? Maybe he's gotten better?"

"To my knowledge he snuck out on his own. He was still supposed to be in the infirmary." What a mess. Did Alfred really think no one would recognize him like that? What was he trying to prove? By now, the racers had already taken off. If Arthur did something to stop the races, Alfred would probably be even more angry with him.

"He snuck out?" Greta frowned a little bit. She had always been in the belief that if you were sick or hurt, you had to be good and get better all the way before doing anything. It wasn't right to make your loved ones worry about you if you were still sick or hurt and you decided to go do something that jeopardized your health.

And Arthur obviously loved this person if he was worried about him.

Millie agreed with Greta. Running off and doing something dangerous when you're supposed to be healing just wasn't right!

"I hope he doesn't get even more hurt," she commented. Meanwhile, Meg had hopped off of Vincent and started playing with his tail, along with Kiku's.
