At one of the stalls, there is what looks like a child's doll standing on one of the counters admiring the goods in a display case. N-no, no, he saw that right - the thing seems to be living....?!?!

Harlequin gazed at the contraptions laid out in neat rows on neutral grey felt under the glass. "Goodness, I don't even know what half these things are. Aaaand . . . that one looks like it'd be rather painful to even try to use!"

Zack had stopped for a snack earlier, and was now munching on a apple as he randomly browsed the wares offered by various shopkeepers. He was enjoying himself, flirting a bit with the pretty girl selling ceramics in one stall when he spotted Harlequin in the next stall.

Wow. He'd never seen a doll that could talk before. And unknowing to Zack, he'd spoken his last thought out loud.

Harlequin flinched in surprise and turned to look for the source of the voice. He snickered a bit in amusement as he shook his head. "No, sir, I'd imagine you haven't. Not unless you've been to the out-of-the-way corner of Melior where I'm from." Shifting to face the flesh person more directly, he swept his little bicorn off his head as he offered a deep bow. "Pleased to meet you, good sir. I am Harlequin, at your service."

Zack scratched the back of his head, a bit embarrassed as he realized he'd just spoken out loud. The way his mouth would go sprouting off whatever was in his head had gotten him into embarrassing situations before. "Hehe, sorry about that. Didn't mean to be rude. But I HAVE been in Melior before. It has been a long time though..."

He quickly gave a half bow in response to Harlequin's introduction. "I'm Zack Fair. Nice to meet you!"

"The pleasure is mine, Mr. Fair. And our theater....ah, w-wasn't there for a great deal of time." There's a suppressed sadness, even grief, in his tone, but he brushes it back quickly. "Perhaps, it wasn't there yet the last time you were in Melior."

And he's....t-trying not eye the apple in Mr. Fair's hand, he really is!, though he can't help but be reminded how long it's been since he ate last...

"Ah...that might explain it. And I wasn't in Melior all that long and all that often before anyway..." Zack's voice trailed off. It wasn't long before he noticed Harlequin's gaze on his apple. "Hey, you want an apple? I've got another one if you want one." The little guy looked hungry.

"Oh! M-may I?! Um, I-I mean . . . if it's not any trouble, Mr. Fair. I haven't any money or anything to trade for it..."

Zack quickly dug into his waist pouch and took out the second apple he bought earlier. "Here. It's no trouble. I can get another one later. What are you gonna do later on though?"

Zack might have offered the little puppet a sack of gold for all that his painted eyes lit up at the offer. "Oh, thank you so much, Mr. Fair! I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate this!" One advantage to being as small as he was - it didn't take much to fill him up.

He pulled a breath at the question as he munched on a biteful of tart apple. "I . . . I'm not sure, to be honest. Actually, I came here looking for work." He offered a sheepish grin just then, a light blush shading the flesh-tone paint of his cheeks. "I, ah . . . g-got distracted." He waved a little wooden hand at the display case behind him.

Zack smiled and shook his head. "Like I said, it's no problem at all. I'm not that poor I can't give away an apple or two. You sure you don't want something more filling than that?"

Zack scratched his head as he thought about where a puppet could get a job. "There's lots of airships here right now because of he races. I'm sure one of them would be willing to take you on. And I definitely understand getting distracted here!"

"I-I..." Harlequin didn't want to be a beggar, having always been taught to work for anything he got.

He grinned at the more comfortable topic, chuckling at the last. "Oh, yes, very much so! I've never seen so many various and wonderful things before! As for the ships, though . . . I've actually been told to seek out the Winding Way. It's a theater ship . . . t-though I don't know if even they have need of a puppet as such. Still . . . I'm small and quick. Maybe I can run errands, or help mechanics by getting up into tight spaces for them. I'm sure there's something I can do."

"Here." Zack dug into his waist pouch again handed Harlequin his last apple anyway.

"Well this right now is one of the bigger markets I've seen. I've heard that the one in Boston is even bigger." He commented cheerfully.

"Oh, the Way? They're a good ship, and I'm sure they'll be happy to take you on."

Harlequin's eyes lit up. "Thank you! You're too kind, Mr. Fair." At the comment, he rubbed at the back of his head sheepishly. "Ah . . . y-yep, I've heard that too. That was . . . actually where I thought the plane I was on was going. But this place is just as good. Maybe even better!" He grinned and nodded at the last. "That's what I keep hearing." He cocked his head, gazing up at Zack. "May I ask which ship you're on? Or if you /are/ with one?"

"I'm hoping to go to Boston myself one day." Zack replied cheerfully, fidgeting a bit in place. "But this place is good, even if it doesn't have what I was looking for. And yeah, I'm on a ship. It's called the 4223."

Harlequin's eyes went wide at the name of Mr. Zack's ship. "T-the 4423? B-but isn't that th-!!" He caught himself with a hitch of breath, little wooden hands making a clacking noise as he clapped them over his mouth. He really should not speak ill of someone's ship, that was rude - especially if it was possibly only rumor to begin with.

He noticed Zack's fidgeting and offered a small grin. "I-I'm sorry . . . I'm sure I'm keeping you from something important..." It was an out for Mr. Zack to continue on his way without seeming to be rude...

Zack definitely noticed Harlequin's near slip-up, but paid it no mind. It WAS true that the 4223 was a pirate ship, but they really haven't done anything...piraty... since Zack joined up. Really, he wondered why everyone was so afraid of it....

"Hmmm? Oh. Don't mind me, I'm not really used to standing still all the time. At the same time, if I'm keeping you from something, feel free to take off."
