No matter. Who cared what those men thought? Only von Karma's opinion was important If they still thought him unworthy, well, they'd be proven wrong soon enough.
He pushed these bitter thoughts aside and concentrated on his paperwork, only to be interrupted by a knock on his door. Ah, they were supposed to get some new passengers today, weren't they? Personally, he'd rather they fill up and bother some other ship, but it wasn't his place to turn them down. He cleared his throat and, after he set his pen and paper down, leaned back in his chair.
"Come in."

He supposed he shouldn't have been surprised, given what the man himself was wearing.
"I hope you don't mind my interruption," he began with a smile, "but I was directed to come here to seek passage on this ship."
Reply
"Very well," he said calmly. "Your papers, please?"

Fishing out his papers from his luggage, Joshua approached the First Mate and handed them over with a smile. His papers, Ivonan of course, were in almost impeccable condition.

"Welcome aboard, young Mr. Kiryuu." The first mate stood up, and extended his hand. "I'm Commander-" (Commander. The word still weighed heavily on his mind and on his tongue) "-Miles Edgeworth. If you have any problems or questions, feel free to come back to my quarters."
He'd regret those words later on.

"You're quite the kind man, Edgeworth." Letting go of Edgeworth's hand after a moment longer than was prudent, Joshua half turned and waved a hand in the direction of the open door. "I'm not familiar with the Victoria II's layout. Surely you could take a moment to show me around?"

Now, his paperwork was finished, and the crew was running as smoothly as ever, which left him with very little to do. No, that wasn't quite right - that left him with nothing to do. Rather than face an afternoon of drudgery and pointless reorganization, he nodded to Joshua and walked towards the door.
"Just follow me," he said crisply.

"I'm surprised you're not busy, Commander." Joshua said with a grin. "I'm sure many visitors would have been enamoured by your appearance."
Reply
"And where's your luggage, Mr. Kiryuu?"

Joshua slipped a hand in his pocket. "In your office. I thought I might need an excuse to see you again later."
Reply
"My quarters aren't a storage unit," he said, in a voice that dripped with annoyance. "You're to take your luggage to your quarters immediately, am I understood?"
Reply
Joshua just gave Edgeworth a shrug, before running a hand through his hair. "I'm afraid there's a slight problem with that, Edgeworth. I can't take my luggage to an unknown location."
Reply
"Very well," he said sharply. "Your quarters will be our first stop - after you retrieve your things."

At least the walk to his cabin wouldn't be too long. He hoped.
Sighing dramatically, Joshua shrugged and gave Edgeworth a lazy salute, "Yes, sir!" before returning to Edgeworth's office. It didn't take him long to return with his luggage -- the wonders of having a good memory and sense of direction -- at least in his opinion; his normal walking pace was a leisurely stroll.

"Now, he said as he began to walk forward, his back straight as a rod, "This way."
Reply
Following a little behind Edgeworth, Joshua asked the First Mate, "Say, Commander, do you prefer to lead, or do you prefer to follow?"
