The trick, of course, was making sure they didn't notice you hitching on, Zidane thought with a hint of smug satisfaction. Dozing off hadn't been part of the plan, of course, but fleeing through the swarms of people that crowded the Bydan wharf, with the cursing of the lumber-transport pilot fading away behind him? That was the easy part.
Fortunately for stowaways, the docks were bustling with activity, crowded with airships taking port for the day.
Well out of sight, Zidane slowed his steps as soon as it felt safe, shouldered his duffel, lifted his chin and strode proudly through the throng. It was a fine thing to be far from home on a sunny day. The air itself already seemed sweeter. Unfamiliar sights and sounds surrounded him, and looming up ahead...
His new home...with any luck. Shading his eyes with one hand, he took in the awesome sight and whistled appreciatively. A lot of airships passed over Kropmork, but this one had been the object of his daydreams since he was a dizzy little stripling: the Winding Way, as gorgeous as ever. He could hardly wait to be aboard...
Well...
The gangplank was down, after all.
As his boots clumped hollowly up the wobbling plank, Zidane thought fast. He was never going to work out where to go on his own--a helpful guide would have to be found. Reaching the deck, he surveyed the bustling crew...and blinked, the ghost of a grin tugging at his mouth. Well, now. Was it standard practice to employ so many pretty girls on one airship? Apparently more than the air was sweet today.
"Excuse me," he said, flashing a winning smile at the first young lady who happened to stray into his path and offering her a gallant bow. "Zidane Tribal, formerly of Tantalus, here to apply for a post. I'm a little daunted trying to find my way around such a beauty." He gestured to the shining wood of the decks around them. "If you could help me guess where the captain's hiding, I'd be in your debt."
