Penelo slipped into the sickbay, smiling when she saw the twins curled up on the same bed. It was kinda cute.

Sadly, Alfred and Matt needed their wounds cleaned properly. She carefully headed over and shook them awake. "Matt, Alfred, wake up."

Matt groaned as he was prodded awake. Oops, he didn't intend to fall asleep. Not that he minded, since it would probably pass time here in the infirmary.

He looked up at Penelo and after a moment it registered that ...Penelo was a doctor and she was trying to wake up Alfred. This was only going to end badly. Matt shifted to his side and watched his brother, making sure he was ready when his brother inevitably panicked.

A soft hand. Golden hair. Kind eyes....Penny. Alfred jerked forward with a yelp. Well, two yelps. The first was from fright, the second from the pain of trying to get up and away from the medical-ly type person so suddenly.

Penelo was nice from a distance. Up close, Alfred didn't know what to do about her. Sure, she acted nice, but... could she really be trusted?!

Oh, great. A panicker, and Penelo was all out of magic power. She couldn't even try a immobilize spell. Time for plan B.

"Alfred, calm down. I need to check your wounds, and Matt's too," she explained. "I won't make it worse. I can't promise not to hurt you, but..."

Matt cringed slightly at her words. Not the best thing to say. The way to get Alfred to calm down was to flat out lie if need be.

Matt sat up, shifting the weight away from his injured leg and made to hold Alfred back so he wouldn't try to escape. "Listen to what she says, Alfred, she's here to help."

Oh. Wait a minute. Wait. A. Minute!!!! Had she just said-? Yeah, Alfred was pretty sure she had. "H- how can you say you won't make it worse if you can't promise it won't hurt?! Hurting DOES make things worse!!" Al half whined, half croaked. His throat was still feeling a little sore.

Alfred tried to use his brother as a shield (-Hey, was that traitor actually trying to hold him down?!), but soon realized that he was pretty much a human equivalent to a turtle stuck on its back. There really wasn't any way for him to get up and out of this bed without hurting himself more. Every way he looked, pain seemed to be in his near future!

"No, it doesn't. I need to clean both your wounds, and Matthew's, and the only way to do that is use disinfectant. It'll sting, but it'll help you both heal," Penelo explained calmly. "And Matthew, what are you doing out of bed? Your leg's wounded!"

Matt 'EEP'ed at being suddenly used for a human shield and frowned at his brother. What a jerk, and after all he did to keep his ass from being eaten by Cactuar! He made a point to 'accidentally' lean on Alfred's busted leg.

But not for long because Penelo's next words had him cringe. Dammit. "I ...got better?"

Alfred gritted his teeth at the pain from Matt's little "accident". It felt like someone had just stuck him with a searing hot coal. Oh, that was so intentional! He held back the yelp this time. He wasn’t going to give that traitor the pleasure of hearing his pain! After all, that was what he wanted, wasn’t it? For Alfred to suffer! That jerk!

Al turned to Penelo, still not buying her story. "Nuh-uh! No he didn't! You should do his first, Pen!" he said, pointing at Matt.

"He," Penelo said, "is fine enough to move. You're not. Matt, please move. I need to clean Alfred's wounds or they might get infected, and I've already told your brothers you're fine!"

Matt turned around and responded like any mature sibling would. He stuck his tongue out at his brother before groaning and nodding to Penelo. "Fine."

With that, Matthew worked his way off the bed, making sure not to put any weight on his injury and somehow hobble his way back to his bed.

He meant to continue making faces at Alfred some more but the last thing she said caught his attention instead. "...Oh, no." He paled, "Francis is going to kill me."

"Just because I'm Number One doesn't mean that I always have to go fi- Wait. What?!" Alfred asked, looking back and forth between the other two. Had Pen just said 'brothers'? As in... "Y- you talked to Arthur? How did he-?!"

Oh, so that was his name. Penelo nodded, bustling around and getting the antiseptic and bandages.

"Yes, I did, and to Francis. Matt's post for help was public, and the two of them were panicking until I said I was taking care of it," she explained. The boys were lucky she'd already stitched them up in their sleep---the wounds just needed a more through cleaning and bandaging. "Sit up, Alfred."

Matt let out and audible groan and fell back onto his bed. He wasn't looking foward to explaining this to his brother later. He'd promised Francis that he would stay out of harms way. Matthew knew that was virtually impossible since he was joining a pirate ship, so he just never intended to tell him if something was wrong.

He really should have taken care to lock that post. There hadn't been any time, to but he should have still done something. He really hoped Francis wasn't going to Maman about this. He couldn't imagine what that might do to her poor heart.

He sighed. He needed to talk to him eventually, though. "Ah ...Penelo, you didn't happen to find my journal out there, did you?"

Distractions worked wonders on a bad patient like Alfred. He didn't seem to even care about the menacing bottle of antiseptic that Penelo was handling. Alfred slowly managed to sit up. Arthur... he'd heard, and he'd been panicking?

...Oh, right. The journals. He didn't want his back. He kind of liked having a reason not to confront... certain people just yet. "We don't need them back right away. It's probably better if we just rest without the distraction, you know?"

The mage pointed to a pile of metal and gears. "There's your journal, Mattie," she replied. "The cactuars got a hold of it. I'm sure we can get you a new one, though. And as soon as you're better, you are going to leave a message for your brothers. They're still worried." Penelo turned around, antiseptic ready. "Alfred, I need you to take off your clothes, okay? Leave your underwear on."
