Characters: Greta Izuru and Kamotaro Itou Content: Greta visits Itou after the mage invasion in the Victoria. Setting: Itou's quarters Time: Late afternoon Warnings: N-nothing. Really!
Her visit to Ms. Takano hadn't taken all that long. Since her eyesight returned and all she suffered were third-degree burns, the doctor had just given her a salve to help cool the sting of them. Greta was glad for it-- it was her first time being in serious pain like this, and there was still a little bit of survivor's shock left over
( ... )
Itou stifled a groan at the knock, roused from the sleep he had just been falling into. He'd forgotten about the cabin girl. Or rather, he didn't think she'd come up immediately. "Give me a bit," he replied muzzily, getting to his feet and pulling the nearest available clean shirt on.
He had to play nice with this one, but given the state he was in, he was at a loss on how to manage just that. It didn't look like any of his cuts were visible under his shirt, but there was a darkening bruise on his jaw. He didn't need glasses to know that he probably looked like shit. Still, he opened the door to greet his little visitor, putting on a smile.
"Miss Izura," he said, blinking at her in the hopes that it would clear his vision. No such miracle. Was that a dog at her feet?
Greta strained to hear a reply after the rustle of sheets sounded within. "Ah, okay," she chirped in response. Had she disturbed him from sleeping? She hoped not. Mr. Itou probably needed it. She'd try to make her visit quick then. The little girl waited patiently, perking up when finally the door started opening.
The battered and bruised sight of him made her inexplicably guilty (even though a majority of it was probably not her fault). "Oh, Mr. Itou..." She gestured to the cart. "I brought you some tea, but I don't know if it'll be enough to thank you..."
Vincent tilted his head at seeing Itou, sniffing his hand for a moment before sitting back down, wagging his tail approvingly.
He made a rough appropriation of what that thing was at her feet and realized that it was probably a large dog-thing. If he remembered correctly, it could also breathe fire. Well then. He was very glad it liked him.
"Miss Izura, there's really no need to thank me. I'm only happy that you're all right. Come in, come in," he ushered smoothly, gesturing to the interior of his room. "I have to apologize for the state that I'm in. It's hard to clean up when I knock my head on every other wall at every other step." His eyesight wasn't that bad, but some exaggeration wouldn't go amiss. It at least excused his less-than presentable state.
Greta giggled at how Vincent seemed to approve of Itou. She set her hand on the puppy's head. "This is Vincent, my puppy that I was looking for earlier. I think he likes you, Mr. Itou!"
At his urgings she carefully wheeled in the serving cart, tilting her head at the inside of the room. "Oh, no, it's okay!" Putting the cart aside for a while, the little girl started zipping around the room, picking up what she could that she didn't think would intrude on his privacy. "I can go to Miss Takano for you and ask her to get you new glasses, if you'd like."
"Pleasure to meet you, Vincent," he told the dog with a faint yawn, although he was more (a lot more) fond of cats, himself. Then again, animals have always liked him well enough.
Itou followed carefully behind her, taking care not to trip on the girl. "Thank you," he said when she started picking up things. He was normally fairly neat, as she could probably see by the bareness and generally decent organization of his room, but he'd pretty much bumped into everything there by now. "I appreciate the offer, but I don't think we have the technology or the resources on board to make glasses like mine. The grade is higher than usual." He didn't even know if Solare had any decent glasses shops. Hopefully, he could look later.
Greta soon finished tidying up the room-- it was already neat to begin with, so she didn't have to do much to make it look presentable again. She glanced up and beamed at him, though she wasn't entirely sure how well he could see it. "You're welcome! It's the least I can do." Once she was done, she trotted back to the serving cart and carefully poured a cup of tea for him.
"Ohh..." The little girl turned to him, walking the few steps across the cabin to hand him the teacup. "Will you be okay until you get new glasses? It would be bad if you kept bumping into things...you might get more bruises." She hovered her hand over his jaw to call attention to it before withdrawing.
He did see it, and he smiled briefly in return. "Thank you," he repeated as he accepted the tea, and blinked as she hovered her hand on his jaw. Ah, she meant the bruise? It was sore, but nothing he couldn't bear. More importantly...
"Did this come from the fire?" he inquired curiously, gently taking her hand before she could completely withdraw it and turning it palm side up. Burns were, to his experience, the most painful injuries one could ever have. "It must hurt. Thank you for taking the trouble to get me tea despite this."

Greta blinked when Itou took her hand-- she had to stand on tippy toes to accommodate to the height difference. She winced a little at the touch to her sensitive and raw skin, but other than that, it did not hurt as much as it did a few hours ago.
...Wait, hadn't this been about him, not her? The little girl let out an embarrassed squeak, flailing her other arm a little. "A-Ah, um, yes...but Ms. Takano gave me a salve for it, so it's doesn't hurt that much anymore. I'll be fine! And you're welcome again!"

"That's good to know," he nodded approvingly, offering her one of his most pleasant smiles as he gently let her hand go. His jaw hurt a little from that. "You should take care of this, lest it scar. If it hurts again, go back to the infirmary, all right?"
I-Itou, what are you thinking?! |D;kumahachi_kissMay 13 2009, 07:30:03 UTC
She let her hand fall to her side after he released it, blushing pink. She wasn't used to grown ups like him treating her so nicely. It was...a little strange. The little girl tilted her head back to look up at him, nodding at his suggestion. "Okay, I will."
After a long moment she jumped in realization and laughed sheepishly. "Oh, I'm probably bothering you, Mr. Itou. I'll leave the teapot on your desk where it won't bother you-- oh wait, if it spills it'll get all your papers wet...I'll set it on your nightstand! And I'll come by to pick it up later!"

He managed to drink at his tea without incident, although he nearly scalded himself with it the first time. Hmm. It was good tea.
"Not a bother at all. Thank you for coming, Miss Izura, I appreciate the concern and attention," he told her serenely. Itou would have invited her to drink tea with him if not for the necessity of a nap. "I apologize that I'm in poor state to be a good host. Maybe next time we can share tea properly together?"
She shook her head at his apology. "It's okay, Mr. Itou. You need your rest after everything that happened." She walked back over to the serving cart, wheeling it over to his nightstand and very very carefully taking it between her palms and setting it there. On any other occasion she would have just held onto the handle (holding a heavy teapot between your palms is dangerous! You could drop it!), but with her hands still feeling raw she couldn't bring herself to close her hand into a fist-- it would hurt too much. Not to say holding a hot teapot between her palms wasn't painful enough, but it was the lesser of two evils.
"Really? You would want to?" The little girl beamed at him, rolling the serving cart back towards the door. "Most officers don't usually want to have tea with me."
Itou being Itou half-blind, he didn't notice her pain at all, though he only spoke when he was certain she wasn't holding onto anything breakable anymore.
"I have no idea why," he replied to the last statement, and shrugged. "I think I would enjoy your company more than my fellow officers, really, and you make excellent tea."

The girl giggled, shaking her head in disagreement. "It's because they have more important things to do, of course!" she chirped. She walked around the cart and opened the door, turning and curtsying deeply to him, Vincent dipping his head to the man as well. "Mr. Itou, you're really too nice to me." The serving cart was carefully pulled out into the hallway without any jarring, and she peeked back into the room before she left. "Anyways, I won't disturb you anymore. I'll come again later~"
It's all right! End of log? : >ceilingitouMay 20 2009, 01:12:36 UTC
Hmm. Cute girl, that one. "Yes, please do."
Itou kept up the smile until she was gone before putting the empty cup of tea on the nearest solid surface and plopping over on his bed, muffling a whine on the pillow. Sleep was good.
