Characters: Marluxia, Larxene, and anyone who drops in Content: Marluxia and Larxene get set to board the ship that will be their new home. Setting: Bydan port, outside the 4423. Time: ...When it's in port. Warnings: None for now.
Jenka was sitting on the ship's railing, her back towards the docks, and definitely too far away to hear anything the newcomers were saying. If she was human, that is.
She was not human, and her Jäger hearing easily picked up their conversation. Perhaps it would have been a better idea not to let them know of her abilities, but Jenka usually preferred fun to advantage even in battle - she certainly wasn't going to pass up an opportunity for some entertainment today. Bydan was boring. Besides, the woman's comment was far more timely than she knew. "Actually, all ov us shovered right after docking!" she commented with an amused smile. The smile showed far more teeth than anyone should have, and the disturbing effect was significantly amplified by the fact that she had just jumped the 40 feet down to the docks, landing easily right in front of the two
( ... )
Marluxia was startled by the sudden appearance of the Jäger and couldn't quite bite back the instinct to summon his scythe. A flurry of petals later and he was there, fully armed. He watched her carefully with those cold eyes of his and didn't seem bothered at all by the fact that he was standing in a port holding a rather ridiculous looking blade.
Well, a large pink scythe wasn't the most subtle of weapon choices.
"You're a member of the crew." He stated, his eyes narrowing slightly. It wasn't a question, but it wore the guise of one. Interesting.
He'd heard of Jägermonsters, since he was rather well read, but he had never seen one in person. He couldn't deny being surprised by this one's dropping in, but he was interested as well. If the 4423 accepted crewmembers of that nature, somebody with his history wouldn't have trouble and neither should Larxene. Still, she had made some comments of a slightly aggressive nature towards his companion, so he was, for the moment, on his guard.
Larxene didn't go in for anything as flashy as summoning weapons. Hers, she simply kept on her, and unlike Marluxia she didn't draw them yet.
Marluxia's choice in weaponry could be so embarrassing.
There were other things to concern herself with, however. Like the fact that she'd just been accused of being scared by this complete stranger. Sparks arced between her splayed fingertips, crackling before she closed her fist and stopped it. It was always an easy sign that her temper had been poked.
"I don't get scared," she replied, looking at this intruder on their conversation. She'd tensed with indignation, ready to fight, but somehow the presence of Marluxia acted like a barrier.
Of course, all that meant was that she wasn't flying into a fight yet. Somebody was owed a lot of pain for the suggestion that she was scared, although it didn't necessarily have to be the person who'd accused her of it. Not if Marluxia said no.
Holy Heterodyne, what was that?? After a few heartbeats of just staring at the man's suddenly visible weapon with a shocked expression on her face, the Jäger burst out laughing. It took her a while to stop long enough to answer his question - or statement - "Yez. Und vho iz hyu??" She couldn't help laughing again. The man was just so... incongruous!
She spared some of her amusement for the woman. One of the easily-insulted ones, hmm? That should be fun. She raised an eyebrow with clear interest at electricity in her hands - that would make it really fun. Especially since she, unlike her friend Dimo, hadn't managed to get struck by lightning during the recent storm.
Marluxia resisted rolling his eyes and shouldered the weapon as he waited for the woman to finish with her juvenile laughter. It might have been a big, pink scythe but it was still a scythe and he knew how to use it, thank you. A blade is a blade, no matter what the colour. Even when it's a thoroughly ridiculous one.
"We're looking to join it." He said in answer to her question. Well, with people like this on board, life would never be boring, that much was almost certain.
Oddly enough, Marluxia didn't expect her to help. She seemed far too amused with them to be of any service. He kept one eye on Larxene, hoping to ensure that she didn't lose her temper early on and electrocute anybody she shouldn't. Marluxia had a sneaking suspicion that a jolt of lightning wouldn't bother a Jäger, but it wasn't a risk he wanted to take.
Larxene was only barely restraining herself. She could feel the charge circulating in her closed hand, and the air was starting to take on a tinge of ozone, and the smell of thunderstorms. She didn't like being laughed at, perhaps even less than Marluxia liked it.
She let Marluxia do the talking. He was smarter than she was, and Larxene knew it, which was exactly why she was inclined to go along with the things he said. That and the chance he gave her to have fun.
It took willpower to force herself to settle back, and fold her arms, looking at the Jäger expectantly. Freaky looking thing, really, obviously not human, or not entirely human, but Larxene isn't as well read as Marluxia, except in some departments, and has never bothered to ask. Now would hardly be the time to ask anyway.
Larxene might not have been holding her weapons, but her expression held daggers.
The man did look like he could do more with his weapon than just make enemies laugh to death. So did the woman, and seemed to have the temperament to match. They'd probably make better pirates than a good deal of the current crew, she thought, and gave the pair an approving nod. "Vell, dot's goot. Hyu seems interestink enough." she answered, exactly as unhelpful as the pink-hair predicted
( ... )
If Marluxia could have kept one eye on the stranger and one on Larxene, he would have. As it stood, he decided to keep his attention focused firmly on his friend. If the Jäger attacked, it would be expected and fairly easy to counter. If Larxene did, it could end up explosive, nasty and quite possibly attention grabbing. Considering the crew of this ship had just spent time in a storm collecting lightning, according to hear-say, shocking one of them probably would not go down too well.
He didn't move to protect his friend when Jenka approached. He didn't choose to act as a shield and looked very much like he had no intention of doing so.
That accent was weird. Larxene hadn't heard anything like it before, but at least it wasn't too difficult to understand. It can't have been helped by those teeth, which drew Larxene's attention as much as every other aspect of this person. That was easily one of the most unfriendly smiles she'd ever seen.
She didn't back down. She never did. "Nice teeth," she replied, unfolding her arms out of unconscious readiness should any attack come. She'd been warned against attacking people, and drawing attention to herself, tempting as it may be, but that didn't mean she was going to stand there, unprepared to move if it came to it.
"Who are you?" The only reason the question wasn't a 'what' are you was because the address had been nearly a compliment. It was an unusual reaction; it made Larxene curious.
Jenka grinned as much at the woman's refusal to back down as at the compliment. As Jägers went, she was a rather serious person, but she still retained a lot of the unselfconsciously cheerful behavior of her kind. She enjoyed frightening people, true, but she enjoyed it even more when they stood up to her. This one could be an interesting person. They might get on well after all, and she wouldn't mind that.
The man with the scythe was waiting and watching, more calm than Jenka was comfortable with. Since her early childhood she had associated calm with power, and she knew it wasn't true in many human cases, but for this one, it just might. Still, she turned her back to him as she came closer to his companion. She would probably enjoy being taken up on the unspoken invitation, pink scythe or not.
"I'z Jenka. A pirate, ov cozz." she answered, with a gesture towards the ship. That, of course, was not the answer everyone always wanted, but she was curious to see if they would ask about her appearance outright. "Und hyu?"
Marluxia watched as Jenka got closer to Larxene, not making a move to prevent it. Well, it wasn't his job to look after his little blonde companion, though he would step in if things got out of hand. He might not be her protector, but they were still friends and he could think of many reasons why it would be a Bad Thing if his only ally was to die on him.
Still, Larxene and Jenka seemed to have got off to a winning start; sizing each other up, each making veiled threats and something that looked suspiciously close to posturing. It was either the start of a cat fight or a beautiful friendship. He wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea of Larxene befriending a Jäger, but it could be worse. At least she was a member of the crew they were hoping to join.
By this point, Larxene was on the verge of ignoring Marluxia. Jenka was taking up more of her notice, for numerous obvious reasons. It's difficult not to have your attention drawn by someone that can jump forty feet downwards, and has those teeth, especially when they're slowly advancing on you.
"Larxene," she answered, giving Jenka one last, critical glance over while she tried to make her mind up about her. "I'm just looking to have fun, and I've been told a pirate's life might be for me." She couldn't help but smile, a sweet little thing that never reached her eyes, as she said that. Larxene had her own interpretation of fun, and it wasn't usually one shared with the people she had fun with.
The Jäger raised her eyebrow at the explanation. "Have hyu, now? Vell, fun ve definitely gots." Whether it was the right kind of fun for the pair was yet to be seen, but from Larxene's smell, completely at odds with the sweet smile, Jenka thought she at least just might like it.
Her strange electricity effects were certainly something to look into. Some of the Masters had experimented with similar ideas, but none of the subjects lasted very long. Would this one end up as a fireworks show any time soon? While very entertaining, it wouldn't be the best for the ship, so Jenka decided she should at least try to find out. "So, vot's vit de lightning?" she asked curiously, reaching out a clawed hand towards Larxene but stopping short of touching. Given the glint in her eyes, it could be interpreted as an inviting gesture.
"Inborn magic," Larxene replied, her voice edging towards sing-song. She eyed Jenka's hand, and her claws, offered as though she was asking to be the dummy for demonstration, and the tip of Larxene's tongue ran over one of her upper canines while she considered it.
Marluxia might shout, or at least give her a disapproving look, and then a hissed warning to behave herself later on, when they were out of earshot.
But since when had that ever bothered Larxene?
She reached her own hand out, sparks crackling between her fingers, building in frequency and intensity until her hand was close enough for it to jump between her and Jenka with a flash and a crack.
"Of course, the incantations make it stronger." Not that Larxene hadn't put some effort into it, but incantations always made it stronger. It was the difference between touching a used lightning net, and actually being struck by raw lightning.
We're skipping Marluxia now because he's talking to Dimo, is that right?causink_troubleApril 21 2009, 01:55:25 UTC
"Aha." she nodded simply at the explanation. She wasn't going to ask about details, since they'd make no sense to her anyway. But if the ability was inborn and the woman was still alive, it was probably safe.
Having cleared up her doubts, Jenka watched Larxene's approaching hand with clear fascination. Her own arm was relaxed and still, betraying no apprehension about the little test. As the sparks connected, her fingers tensed and she took a sharp breath. After a heartbeat she let it out with a soft laugh at the new sensation. "Goot vun!" She looked at her hand curiously and wiggled her fingers. They tingled.
She looked up at Larxene again, her head tilted questioningly. "Vot's it like vit de incantation den?" The Jäger was acting like a curious child that just discovered a new toy. It would be funny, if it wasn't for the teeth.
Yes, we are. I'm sorry for being slow and made of fail.shockcharmApril 21 2009, 20:37:30 UTC
Larxene was actually impressed, and maybe a little bit disappointed. Most people, after receiving a shock from her, even one of that size, weren't able to shrug it off with a wiggle of their fingers. It would have been fun to at least see Jenka jump.
The question wasn't exactly normal, either. It was like she wanted to be hit with everything Larxene had, which made Larxene wonder if the woman was a masochist or just special. She obviously wasn't normal, but you only had to look at her to know that.
Larxene smirked, a little cocky, and a little playful. "I don't know, I've never been hit with it," she smiled that sweet little smile again, completely at odds with the cruel pleasure in her eyes, "and the people that have don't usually get up and give reviews afterwards." It was the narrowing of an eye and the tilt of Larxene's head that indicated she might be in the market for an explanation about that; "Not that you look usual."
She was not human, and her Jäger hearing easily picked up their conversation.
