STATION ONE : MAIN ROD (a hurr hurr) - Pip, Greed & Dimo coyotealpha April 6 2009, 03:12:20 UTC
Seriously, if chasing down that particular duo back in Kropmork back then with the Fiertia wasn't enough, than this really kicked the bucket. Now he was on the deck, sunset red hair blowing in the wind since he had forsaken his hat in this kind of weather and having long forgotten the stench the whole crew had since the wind was blowing at them at about a hundred kilometres per hour ( ... )

Greed was excited. This was something he'd never done before, this was something dangerous and this was something that was going to get them some fucking money. He had his game face on, definitely.

"I was ready an hour ago!" He shouted back at Pip, the grin very, very broad on his face. It was nice to have Pip back, too for the time being. Nice of the captain to stick them in the same group.

The blew hash against his face, the storm was getting closer, he felt his fingers tingle a little with anticipation.

"Yez, more den anyting!" Dimo shouted, the wind ruffling his fur as he took his station. It had been a long, long time since he'd had the chance to handle a lightning rod, let alone one as big as this. He was tensed and ready for action, and a manic grin spread across his face as he glanced from Greed to Pip and back again.

"Dis iz vhat I vas made for."

At Dimo's comment, Pip couldn't help but chuckle lightly. "Well let's just hope you're really not made of lightnin' or otherwise we'd be in trouble," he remarked with a grin before turning back to the giant conductor rod that was (hopefully) locked down tightly enough right in the middle of the deck and down to the generator below. Hopefully this would go smoothly without any hitches, though the mercenary had his doubts - and a distinct feeling that something was going to happen. Good or bad however, was another thing altogether.

They were approaching the storm, thunderclouds beginning to roll closer and closer as lightning - their target - flashed accompanied by the howling of winds and the roar of thunder. Pip adjusted his rubber attire, making sure they were firm before nodding at the other two and shouting aloud. "Alright mates, 'ere we go!"

It was harvesting time.

Oh, something bad always happened. It was the single most constant rule of the 4423. Something always happened. That didn't mean Greed was going to just let it, it just meant he was expecting it.

Looking up at the sky, Greed readied himself for the incoming storm.

For the most part, Dimo was wearing the rubber clothing that had been provided for him. He didn't like it--it itched horribly, and rubbed the wrong way no matter how he moved--but it was probably a good idea to keep it on. The gloves, however, had been modified with a quick swipe of a knife earlier, and were now fingerless. Whether it was actually true or not, Dimo figured that he could take whatever the storm threw at him.

The scents around him were the most exciting he'd smelled in some time. It was exhilerating to be able to be up in the storm, not just watching it, like he had in years past at Castle Heterodyne. He could almost feel the electricity in the air, and it just made him that much happier. Finally, something good and dangerous!

The winds howled all around them as they entered the storm, a plunge from normality straight into the heart of danger itself. Pip could feel the subtle yet intense shifts in weather and environment, dark grey thunderstorm rolling around them and throughout the entire ship as they whipped through. Lightning flashed dangerously above them while the cries of thunder signalled their warning.

But of course, a little warning wasn't enough to make Pip shun off. He had faced much wor---okay so maybe there weren't a lot of things worse than getting turned into barbecued rappig thanks to Mother Nature, but hey. It was still dangerous.

The mercenary readied himself as the lightning struck around, ready to do his job when the time came.

As the ship sailed into the path of the storm, the lightning became more frequent, striking close around the ship.

Suddenly a bolt shot down from above to the center of the deck, aiming right for the rod stationed on the deck. It struck with a crack, and the rod began to rattle on its bolts. Had it really been secured properly?

Greed shielded his eyes as the bolt of lightning came crashing down in front of them. It hit the rod rather than one of his crew-mates, so that was a good sign so far.

Greed stepped back as the bolt died down. He heard it start to rattle and his eyes went straight to the bolts. "Shit," He said loud enough for the others to hear.

"I think it's loose!"

The minute he saw the angry clouds ahead, Dimo pulled his goggles down over his eyes. He didn't want a repeat of the shipwreck several months earlier, and was glad that they weren't just decorative, like the ones that were occasionally the fashion back home. His eyes would be needed here.

The rattling of the rod immediately drew his attention. It could get bad fast, if someone didn't attend to it. Fortunately, he had Jager strength and endurance on his side. Spreading his legs apart into a wider stance, Dimo grabbed onto the lightning rod and pulled down as firmly as he could. "I can hold it, but ve vants to get dot bolted back down! I iz strong enough to keep it in place, but I schtill izn't lightning-proof." He grinned as rain pelted him in the face. "Not dot I knows of, anyvays. Mebbe ve finds out," he pondered gleefully.

Oh, hell. Just when things would seem to go right, for once. Pip winced visibly with his one lone eye when the lightning struck, the after-images of that flash still jarring his vision and messing up his senses when he heard Greed shouting to both of them about the loose rod.

"Merde," swore the brunette under his breath, wanting to speak first but was cut off my Dimo who did both something stupid - and something brave together. Not one to waste time (he could kick Dimo later after all of this - the rod was more important for now) Pip nodded quickly and swiftly knelt down to the rod, glancing around for a bit before cursing and shouting out to Greed. "'reed! Get me a screwdriver or somethin'!"

The large lightning rod shook with the ship's motion as Dimo held it in place. It wasn't too terribly heavy, and Dimo himself could easily lift a horse overhead with one hand, but the vibration made it a bit hard to handle.

"Hurry up vith de tools, zomevun! Oddervise, ve's gonna zee how Jager flesh smells vhen it burns!"

Greed thought for sure they had some kind of tool kit for these kinds of things. They'd brought it up to their station. Greed started to look around.

Ah, by the phones. Greed leaped over to it and dug around for the right sized screw driver. Finding one or two that might have matched he ran back over to their group.

Bending down Greed started working on getting the screws back in. "Goin' as fast as I can!"

Pip caught the screwdriver Greed passed to him, working hard as well to secure the rod back in place, teeth greeting together as the winds continued to rage around them and the storm kicking up. The mercenary blinked out the raindrops starting to get into his lone eye and shook his head as more started to gather before turning back to try and secure the bolts properly.

What he didn't notice though, was that with the actions he were doing combined with the storm and winds, the knot for his eyepatch was slowly coming loose...

Dimo had to admit that he'd worked in close quarters before, but it was rather awkward to just be standing here holding onto the lightning rod while Greed and Pip worked at his feet. There wasn't much room to shift his position if he needed to, and that was cause for concern on a wet and slippery deck.

"Going all right?" he asked brusquely. The sooner that they got it completely secured again, the sooner that he could go back to enjoying the storm.

Greed was quick, he didn't want to test his conductivity to lightning in the slightest. As soon as he got the screws on his end secured he stepped away.

"Pip, hurry up!" Greed might have sounded a little concerned. He was eying the sky as if trying to predict the next strike. From the severity of how the storm looked, they probably didn't have a whole lot of time.
