Characters: Sun Jian and Sun Ce
Content: What can a father say when he's been out of his son's life for four years? Sun Jian and Sun Ce meet, and there are sure to be many questions.
Setting: Top deck of the Victoria II.
Time: Sunset, shortly after Sun Jian's arrival.
Warnings: Possible angst.
Sun Jian had both anticipated and dreaded this moment for four, painful years. Not even his family had known that, all this time, he had been alive, recovering from injuries too numerous to count. For the ploy to have worked, for Sun Jian to truly safeguard his family's well-being, he had to pretend that his enemies had succeeded. To make the ruse complete, not even his sons and daughter could know that he was alive.
That hadn't made it any easier. Sure, Ce had already been a fully grown man when his father had faked his death. Sun Jian had no doubts that his son would be able to take the reins of their clan, nor that his followers and close allies would continue to support young Ce as they had him. But his other children had still been young, and a lingering guilt had stayed with Sun Jian for all these years. A guilt that went way beyond that of an absent father. That was the guilt of robbing his eldest son of what should have been the best years of his life. Instead of being able to enjoy his prime years, Sun Ce had been forced to take over all affairs of the family. To squalor in a position well below both his qualifications and his rank. To lose his reputation over a duel with the man that had presumably killed his father. All because Sun Jian had no alternative...
Wentai faced the sunset, thoughts racing through his head. He wasn't sure what he would say to his son. All he knew was that the young man deserved answers.
