A Happy Distraction [OPEN]

Content: Haine goes to let Beat help her give her gun a tune up and cleaning. It's not as dirty as it sounds.
Setting: The Mess Hall of the Winding Way
Time: Shortly after this.
Warnings: Possible fluff between Haine and Beat, nothing more than PG, promise. Anything else depends on who shows up.

Beat had been waiting at one of the bigger tables, chewing happily on one of the meatbuns he had snagged from the kitchen. He was looking forward to this... he and Haine hadn't had much of a chance to hang out since he joined the Way. What with Candy Mountains and poisonings and such. Next to him on the table was the ever-cute purple lizard Lucas had helped him hatch. And like it's "father" it was chewing on a meatbun, growling to itself.

When Haine walked in, Beat glanced up, waving- until he saw the oversize shirt she was wearing. Then he exploded into a blush.

Haine beamed as she jogged over and flopped down next to him. "Hey," she greeted, giving him a kiss on the cheek as she placed her Flintlock down on the table, "Oh, sorry, I should've realized you'd be eating." She chuckled, her long hair down, not even having her goggles on her head.

He coughed a little, but looked happy as could be. "So prob, yo! Here." He offered her a bun, still steamy from the oven. "We gotta keep up our strength, right?" He grinned, still a little flabbergasted by how nice she looked... OH, well she always looked good! But the relaxed air made it stand out more.

"Right!" Haine nodded in agreement as she took the meat bun in her hands. Three fingers on her left hand and two on her right were bandaged, though there wasn't a whole lot of blood on any of them, so the injuries weren't too severe. The blonde blew on the bun gently before taking a bite, smiling. "It's good," she said with a nod after swallowing, taking another bite.

"Hell yeah it's good! The kitchen here on the Way totally beats the 4423's." He took another bite, smiling at her. He then tilted his head a little after seeing her hands.

"Yo... was that what was makin' ya curse eariler?"

Normally, Haine would have freaked, but she had regained her composure; she could lie smoothly again. She chuckled a bit. "I kept nicking myself with the screwdriver," she explained, "While I was trying to take my gun apart. It just kept slipping... I guess my Flintlock's gone to long without a cleaning." She licked meat bun from her lips, a few crumbs still on her cheeks.

"Man, ya gotta be careful! Coulda, like, torn a fingernail off or something..." He paled at the very idea, maybe even looking a little green.

"Well, let's do this then, I just know the basics, so you're in charge here."

"Okay," said Haine as she finished off her meat bun, nodding, "I'll be a good leader, promise." Wiping her hands on a napkin, she smiled, pushing the gun between them. She pressed closer to him as she tried to unscrew one of the parts of the gun, pulling a loose lock of hair behind her ear.

Ohhh... body heat was nice... He tried to pay attention to the gun, he honestly did! But her messing with her hair, and eat, and neck... a guy can't be faulted for getting distracted.

"Uuuuhhhh... yeah!" he picked up another screwdriver, and glared down at the gun, blushing.

Haine grunted softly at the stubborn screw and shifted. A a result, the shirt slipped, revealing bare skin, save for an interrupting white bra strap. "So stubborn," she muttered, holding the gun steady with one hand while the other kept trying to twist the screw out.

Okay... brain go stoppy. beat stared at the soft skin, and like that long ago kiss, acted without thinking. He was good at that.

He leaned over, and placed a tiny little chaste kiss to her shoulder.

All fiddling with the gun stopped as Haine looked at what Beat was doing, where his lips touched... She felt her own cheeks flush pink, but she smiled, appreciating the contact. One hand left its task, tracing along the younger boy's hairline, behind his ear... Funny how she always seemed to forget what she was supposed to do when she was around him.

Beat smiled against her shoulder, no longer kissing it, but resting his head there and letting her play with his hairline. She knew perfectly well what she was doing, and he knew it. And he sure didn't mind.

God... he never expected to get this comfortable with a girl other then Shiki, and of course they had never been this touchy. Not in a romantic sense anyways. Well.... they had been 8, so that was expected.

"So... what'cha wanna do for Amicus?" He knew a lot of guys were frantic about setting things up to be surprises, but in Beat's mind it was just more practical to ask, and get it right, then guess and fuck it up.

Haine tilted her head, still toying with his hair, just a little. "Well," she replied, "We'll probably still be docked in Kropmork, so... How about just a nice dinner? On the deck, under the stars... That'd suit me fine." She smiled again, remembering how they'd kissed under such a starry night.

Beat's smile widened. He knew there was a reason he liked Haine. No fancy-pants resurant where they would have to dress up and be all uncomfortable. Just a nice dinner and a chance to just... be themselves. And a starry meal sounded kinda cool. He'd never eaten a full course meal outside before.

"That sounds awsome, yo. It'd be safter dat's for sure."

Haine nodded. "Yeah," she said softly, "Definitely..." Feeling herself move automatically, she turned her head, kissing Beat gently on the lips. She loved every moment she spend with him. Having him on the Way was one of the best things she could have ever asked for.
