Haruhi sat on the bed, legs crossed, staring blankly at the journal in her hands. Things flashed across the screen, but she barely registered them. She had gotten into a fight with that one boy, but now she was just too tired to respond. Why. Why was all of this happening? It was wrong, all wrong!
She let the journal fall out of her fingers and laid back on the bed. She lay like that for a long while, before moving her foot and forcefully kicking the journal off the bed. She heard it crash onto the floor, but she made no move to retrieve it. In fact, it was a relief not to have that stupid thing up in bed with her anymore. Then maybe she could deny everything that was happening and go back to the pirate stories she loved.
The stories where valiant pirates wielded their swords with grace and fought off the rich and unjust. That was how pirates were supposed to be. Even she knew that it was a far cry from real pirates. Those children's stories were very different from contemporary Vohemaro pirates. She knew that, but, but...!
She also knew she was acting like a child, but... it was so familiar. Sure her town had been smaller, but couldn't the same thing have happened there too? Couldn't it have been hit with this kind of disaster? If she had stayed, would she have died? If she had been born in Doma, would she have died? Would she have had a chance to taste a life outside that small town? It made her just sick to think about it. That hadn't happened. But it could have. It really could. She could have lived and died in that kind of boring life and no one would have known! She clutched a pillow close to her, nearly smothering her face. She had to make these thoughts go away.
