GROUP 3 - Gilbert tidesnpc February 4 2009, 04:51:58 UTC
The grand entry hall is a magnificent sight, even in the dark. The huge bay windows let in an uncanny amount of moonlight, which in turn reflects nicely off the polished floors and dignified weapons hanging from the wall. There are a few large doorways leading off to various rooms on either side, and a smaller door far in the back that is presumably of lesser importance.

A few more steps inward reveals a guest lounge to one side (with some rather odd looking devices) and a pristine library to the other.

Well, this was certainly a classy establishment! Of course, from previous experiences in Kropmork, Gilbert had learned that the Kropmorkian elite tended to either be really classy or tacky beyond all belief. And ah... those weapons looked magnificent! He really wouldn't mind getting a closer look at those,

Of course, as he walked further in, he noted that the guest lounge seemed to have some intriguing trinkets in it, as well... but the library was probably their best bet. After all, anyone who knew anything about rich bastards knew that they always had some sort of secret passageway in the libraries!

"Alright, gentlemen!" he said in his quietest voice, which was still a few decibels over the noise level of the average conversation. "First, we'll be investigating that library!"

The last time Asch worked in a group, it was on the Silvana mission to the Montague. And even then, it was just him and Isshin. This was the first time Asch would actually be working in a group. Item retrieval didn't sound too terribly exciting, but compared to the licker dogs from last time, this didn't seem bad at all.

"...I suppose it's possible they've got it on display there," Asch said.

Although he didn't sound very convinced.

Hatsuharu didn't care for weapons, he didn't care for trinkets, and in all honesty he really didn't care a whole lot about the outcome of this mission. The boy came simply because he felt the need to be some kind of helpful in the eyes of the captain so that he could stay on the ship, and well, he had nothing better to do.

So far it was great fun. Born a rich boy in a strictly tight knit family, he'd never before had the chance to experience an adventure of this variety. He truly wondered how well he would do.

Shoving one hand into his pocket with a slightly slouchy posture, and just looking oh so stylish, Hatsuharu raised a fist into the air at Gilbert's amusingly loud words. "Go team." He added calmly.

It probably didn't help that at this point he had absolutely no clue what they were looking for. He would have asked Asch when he mentioned 'it', but that would have ruined the mystery.

"I doubt it," said Gilbert, in a conspiratorial tone. "You see... if a rich bastard's got a library in his mansion, there's always a secret passage that leads to something extremely valuable behind one of the bookshelves. It's practically a rule."

He beamed in a vaguely threatening way (although, it wasn't actually threatening because that expression was arguably Gilbert's default look) that and promptly strode into the library, not particularly caring one way or another if the other two followed him.

Secret passages? A rule? What the hell!? Not even five minutes had passed and already, Asch wasn't liking Gilbert. He doubted the man even knew what he was saying.

With a visible scowl on his face, he followed the "leader" into the library.

As they arrived, Hatsuharu glanced at the bookshelves before turning to Gilbert. He doubted that they would find any secret passages, but he figured he might as well play along.

"..should we just pull them all out?"

"As a last resort," said Gilbert, leaning on one of the walls experimentally. "Only a few of the ones I remember were activated by pulling out one of the books." He sighed nostalgically and, noting that wall he was testing was real, moved on to another one.

"Ahhh, those were the good old days. I conquered so many mansions when I figured it out, fufufufu!"

Maybe the rescue mission back on the Silvana wasn't so bad after all. In Asch's opinion, Gilbert was an idiot, and Hatsuharu just didn't care. (Why was that guy even here anyways?)

"...so what should we do?" He asked.

"Touch everything until something exciting happens." Hatsuharu chose to reply for Gilbert, idly reaching for a book, though nothing happened when he pulled it out. What a pity, he thought it would've been cool if there really was a secret passage.

"Precisely!" said Gilbert, testing a bookshelf. When it refused to yield, his smile faltered, although it was only noticeable if one looked closely. Was this the exception to the rule? Damn, he'd just look silly if there wasn't one.

He moved on to the next one, albeit with a hint of desperation in his movements.

Oh, this was stupid. At the rate they were going, they were going to be in this damned library all night. Irritated, he leaned against one of the book cases, resisting the urge to slap himself.

The second his back hit the shelf, moved, swinging inwards into the wall like a door and causing Asch to fall backwards onto his behind rather ungracefully.

Hatsuharu noticed Gilbert's desperation, and was about to give him an encouraging pat on the back when he heard the sound of a swinging door and a thump as Asch hit the ground.

Looking over, he pointed with heavily downplayed excitement. "Oh look, red haired guy's butt found the secret passage."

Gilbert heard the 'thud,' blinked, and turned to see... the secret passage!

"Hah! I knew we'd find it!" he said triumphantly, striding over Asch as if he wasn't even there.

"Onward, gentlemen!" He started into the passage, not particularly caring enough to check if they were following him. After all, he really didn't have to rely on anyone else.

Asch growled and got up. Nobody better mention this to anyone. This never happened.

Since Asch was, essentially, already in the passage, he might as well explore it as well, and he grudgingly followed Gilbert into the darkness.

Hatsuharu gave Asch a thumbs up before following along into the passage.

"Mysterious. Think it'll be in here?" He shoved his hands into his pockets again.
