Shinjiro hadn't shot a cannon in a long time, but it wasn't something you really forgot. The burning smell of heated metal, the sweat, the jostling of bodies all around you.

The cook ignored any questions about why he was down here and not in the kitchen. There was no time for that kind of crap. Instead he stettled in and started barking orders at the first free powder monkey he found, putting on his full scary-face.

A few screaming matches on the Network got some of the mental pressure off, but it was during this that a return shot hit the Silvana and the cannon he had been manning shifted-

"FUCK!!" The cook bellowed as his right knee shifted right along with the weapon that hit it, the cap moving a good inch and a half to the side and sending Aragaki to the floor. "..shit.."

Great, just great!

That idiot of a chef just had to downstairs and start loading the canons like a madman hell-bent for redemption. Rangiku never expected to find herself rushing through the halls of this gloomy ship in the middle of a violent mid-air combat with pirates. The captain already warned them about how dangerous this mission would be but the voluptuous blond tossed caution to the wind and stayed on this vessel against her better judgment. As much as she wanted to pin the blame on that drunken old coot in the engine room, Rangiku had no one else to blame other than herself.

"Aragaki!" She yelled once she climbed down the metal stairs quickly while trying not trip because of the shaking ship. The pirates were firing at them with little regard, this mid-air battle was becoming more of a death match now.

"Are you okay?!" Rangiku asked as she ran towards his side.

Shinjiro looked up at the blond with pain dim eyes. The fact that he was face-to-face with a rather nice pair of breasts was mostly lost on him, and he tried to give the woman a heated glare. Of course it wasn't very effective with him on his ass.

"I'm....fine..." He panted. "Just..wrenched my knee."

The fact that said join was REALLY not bent the way it should be was also completely lost on the cook.

Wincing slightly once she realized exactly how bad his leg looked, Rangiku silently prayed that Aragaki's leg is even still attached. His leg looked as if it was disjointed by the kneecap, the way that it was bent giving indication that maybe be broke a tendon or two. This idiot probably even broken a few bones too for he certainly looked like he was in tremendous pain. Rangiku did manage to snatch a first aid kit from the infirmary but all of the nurses and doctors seemed far too busy taking care of other patients to roam down here. This leaves Rangiku and Shinjiro a rather unfavorable because the blond isn't a medic.

"Aragaki, you just had to rush down here..." She grumbled towards him as she opened the medical pack and started rummaging through it for antis pectic and bandages. "If that damn leg of yours stays attached, make sure I get a chance to kick you in the shins, chef!" Rangiku said as she returned his heated glare with one of her own.

"Where is everyone else?" She was worried about Hitsugaya.

"I can shoot, we needed the manpower." he snarled, his eyes dilating more as the adrenaline wore off. "So don't you preach to me dammit...." He hissed, looking down at his leg like he had never seen it before. "A-and fuck if I know..."

He paused, then reached down, touching the swollen mass. "It just needs... to be popped back..in." He whispered, looking like he was about to do just that, torn ligaments and long-term damage be damned.

A flicker of anger rose within her as she listened to this moronic chef. Yes, the Silvana does need manpower to take control of the canons but they also need experienced men and women behind those canons. Despite how noble his actions were, Rangiku couldn't help but feel a little frustrated with Aragaki. He mindlessly tossed his well-being to the side just to volunteer himself to the aid of the Silvana, courageous but foolish.

"Zip it, chef." She nearly hissed at him as she leaned over to inspect his wound. Telling already that the equipment she has isn't going to be much help, Rangiku decided maybe she should actually do what Shinjiro suggested and pop the joint back in.

"Bite down on your coat collar or something." The blond said as she started to aid pressure to his knee.

"It's going to hurt!" She warned him.

The tiny pressure alone made him hiss like an enraged cat. His eyes widened, and the lapel of his peacoat was between his teeth in a flash. Just in time it seemed, as there was a horrid, sickening "popping" noise that could be heard even through the cannon-fire.

Shinjiro, later on, didn't consider the scream that ripped from his throat was not at all emasculating, considering the amount of pain he was in. Most of the bellow was eaten by thicken material of his coat, and once it tapered off he slumped, panting.

Letting out a sigh of relief once she managed to pop the loose joint back into its proper socket, Rangiku hastily began using the antiseptic upon the cuts and brushes Aragaki suffered. Once she began to bandage his wounded leg, she glanced over towards the canon, watching as several other officers came to get it working again. The blond wasn't sure if Aragaki would actually be willing to head to the infirmary after his little stunt but she planned on dragging him there anyways.

'Beep, beep...'

"Mhm?" Rangiku glanced down at her device for a moment once she heard it's ringer. She snatched it out of the folds of black hakama. As soon as she clicked it on, she heard Ichimaru's voice on the other end. It seemed that he too heard the chef posting earlier and seemed rather concerned for Shinjiro. Rangiku never knew Gin to be a truly caring individual but he does has his moments when he seems as if he truly possessed a heart of some kind. This made her wonder idly about what sort of relationship the two of them may have ( ... )

Shinjiro visibly snarled at Gin's voice, the pain dulling what little good sense he had as Matsumoto tended to him. "Probably...wants to make sure... I didn't die. No fun for him... if i did." He panted, glaring at the machine.

But he calmed when Matsumoto smiled at him. He was just too weak to keep up a good bout of rage. "Remind me... to make you something special...later. No mushrooms."

....

"Wait... Yuuko?!" He tensed, not looking too happy with this idea.

A frown appeared for only a second when she noticed the dry and somewhat sarcastic tone that Shinjiro took with her once she mentioned Ichimaru. From the looks of things, it seems that her childhood friend has a habit for making more enemies than friends. Either way, Rangiku didn't feel like getting into a heated discussion about the chef's little morbid quip so she just bit her tongue and helped him up.

"Yeah, Yuuko." She replied to Shinjiro with a light smirk. "What? You don't like her?"

"She gives me a bad vibe." He muttered, scowling even more. He leaned on the woman reluctantly, and noticed with wry amusement that she was taller them him. Heh.

"....be careful. I might feel bad if you get hurt carting me around. Things are still hot down here." As he said that the ship shook wildly. Shinjiro grunted as the vibrations shook his leg. "W-what the hell-"

Rolling her eyes once he muttered those words to him, Rangiku had to hold back her snide little contort that she wanted reply back to him with. Considering how standoffish and paranoid Aragaki seems to be, the blond wouldn't be surprised if everyone gives him a bad vibe or two. Despite the fact he is a chef, Shinjiro isn't exactly a social butterfly and certainly doesn't seem like the type to appreciate a woman's touch. Although, Rangiku did have to admit that sometimes the black haired healer can come off a little too mysterious at times ( ... )

"I noticed." He replied bluntly, though there was a tiny hint of tease there. The man DID have a sense of humor down deep somewhere, it just got bit off in one battle or another. He smirked over at the woman, rolling his shoulder and planting his good leg, trying to take some of the weight off of her.

"And I wouldn't count us down yet, this crew is tough as pitbulls. They won't let go until those pirates are dead." A touch of pride colored his voice, and it was honest. The Silvana was his home down, and it's crew his team. As bitter and mean as he might be towards them, he trusted them. Most of them.

"Really?" Rangiku replied with a little smile just when the entire ship began to shake because of the vibrations of the canons firing. She fought hard to gain her foot on the stairs, wrapping her arm tighter around Aragaki's waist as she hoisted him up towards the next level. The two of them nearly fell when another deafening blast came a bit too close to the hull. She almost couldn't hear herself think after finally making it up the stairs and into the hallways.

"You guys must be really tough to handle all this." The blond replied still quite cool under all this stress but the fear that sneaked in her tone was recognizable. This is probably the first and only time Matsumoto ever found herself this close to an actual firefight. The entire experience was absolutely humbling, making the lovely blond really regret staying aboard this ship.

"You better be right, cook!" She said with a somber laugh as the two of them walked up the shaky corridors.

"Dying isn't on my things-to-do list, Aragaki."
