Jade looked up from the paperwork on his desk at the tentative voice. Mildly curious and not about to complain of an excuse to do something, he shrugged on his lab coat and made his way into the main office.

"Good evening," Jade said in his usual neutral polite tones, "How can I help you?"

A clearer smile forming upon her lips, Kallen let herself fully into the room, being careful to close the door as she did. Briefly canting her head as a sign of respect, she hastily let her eyes register the man's appearance - tall stature, long brown hair, blood-red eyes, glasses - before gently clasping her hands together in front of her. People who interlaced their fingers usually indicated someone who was nervous or perhaps even a little reserved. Hopefully, that was the idea he was perceiving of her so far.

"I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, Doctor," she apologized, keeping her voice soft. "My name is Kallen Stadtfeld...I believe you told me that it would be alright if I came to take my physical?" She paused for a few seconds, as if taking a moment to replay her words within her mind.

"Of course, if you're busy, I'll be sure to return at a more convenient time."

Jade maintained his neutral expression to hide a certain amount of curiosity - people as meek as Stadtfeld were not a common sight in the military. There must have been some rather extenuating circumstances.

"It's no problem, Ms. Stadtfeld." Jade gave a small smirk, mostly intended to be welcoming. "If you would sit up on the exam table-" he gestured at the neat metal slab in the center of the room, "-we can begin."

At the sight of a smirk crossing Jade's lips, Kallen allowed her body to relax a little. Although smirks weren't generally considered an expression that diffused all-around warmth, it wasn't a frown at the very least, which was a good sign. Well, she hoped it was a good sign - that was all she could really do when first meeting someone. Simply hope things were going well and just meander along with whichever way the flow circulated.

Unclasping her fingers, she gave a small nod, readily agreeing to his statement. "Yes, Doctor."

Turning, she began to head towards the area he gesticulated. As usual, she kept her stride well-poised, her fluid way of movement coming with ease from years of practice. Upon reaching the indicated table, she swiftly shifted, taking a seat upon it. Placing her hands together upon her lap, she patiently awaited his next response, being careful to keep a mildly pleasant expression upon her countenance.

Jade tugged on a pair of gloves, stacked up his usual medley of examination materials, and made his way over to his patient. The instruments were set down, ostensibly so Jade could prepare more effectively, but most for his own curious benefit. It was a habit of his, after all, to judge a patient's personality during an examination. People - even well-trained military personnel - instinctively let their guard down around doctors.

It was curious, then, that Stadtfeld showed no such relaxation thus far. She was just as politely obedient as when she'd entered the room - no unease, no nervous determination; just a solid sort of calm. Jade raised an eyebrow briefly, then assumed a politely neutral expression and un-clipped the pen/flashlight from his jacket.

"Look at the ceiling, please." He flipped the pen around and clicked on the light. "Do you have any history of vision problems? Any recent reoccurring headaches, dizzy spell, or issues with your sight in general?"

Kallen swiftly switched her gaze to the ceiling as he had instructed. "No, and no."

The answer came almost automatically. She had, after all, grown accustomed to receiving physicals. Her indication of physical weakness nearly always led to an examination with the doctors. However, each one tended to come out just copacetic. She didn't actually have anything wrong with her - simply weak bones and low stamina.

At least, that was how the results usually ended. If only the doctors could see her outside of the military-related fields...they'd certainly be more than astonished.

Jade nodded distractedly and jotted down a few numbers on his clipboard. "Excellent vision, though I suppose you knew that. Do you have any general symptoms that I should know about?" He picked up an armband from the tray and wrapped it around Stadtfeld's upper arm. Jade kept an eye on his watch as the pressure reader slowly inflated and deflated. "Headaches, nausea, tiredness, soreness, that sort of thing."

Kallen didn't even pause or cast a brief glance at the armband as she answered. "No - at least, everything's fine as long as I'm not performing any strenuous activities." Piloting excluded, which would be included in her file if he ever doubted this. Although, she was certain this would lead to the first mate having one of the crew member train her, if she recalled correctly. Not that it was necessarily a negative thing.

Jade hrm'd noncommittally and picked up his stethoscope. He wondered vaguely what part of the Navy continued sending less-than-physically capable soldiers to an active military vessel. Very little on the Victoria II could qualify as an nonstrenuous activity.

He affixed the stethoscope to his ears and placed the other end a few inches below Stadtfeld's collarbone. "Slow, deep breaths, if you will."

As instructed, Kallen inhaled deeply, before slowly expelling her breath. At the moment, there still wasn't anything new to the procedure - if there was, she'd wonder if there actually was something wrong with her health - so she found preoccupying herself with contemplating his behavior more intriguing.

His expression, body movement, tone of voice, and words didn't evince anything particular. However, perhaps it was too soon to tell. Regardless, she wasn't intent on letting her soft behavior slide, especially with someone she just met. She knew she probably came off as a little weak, perhaps to a point past tolerance, but if she remained amiable, everything was bound to be alright.

Jade stepped back, jotted down a few final numbers, and set aside his stethoscope. Physically, there certainly wasn't anything wrong with Stadtfeld. He supposed she'd been sent for a once-over more for her less-than-intimidating personality than any true weaknesses. Ah, well~

He handed the clipboard and a pen to Stadtfeld. "If you could fill out the top portion of this, we should be done. Let me know if you have any general problems, especially reoccurring ones."
