Tohru finished the final double-check she was making of the props on the table near the wings - everything for the first act seemed to be there, except -
- oh, it had just fallen on the floor, that was alright.

Slightly at a loss for what to do next, she looked up enthusiastically at Ichigo's question. "I can help do it if you like!" she said, with a smile.

"You know how to work 'em?" Since no one else seemed to be running things back here... Ichigo didn't really want the responsibility, but he'd get what needed to be done done. "It's pretty high. You'd better be careful."

"Sort of." She wasn't entirely confident, but she thought she could pull it off - and if no-one else was doing it, someone had to. "I've helped with them before, but I've not done it on my own."

Ichigo sighed. "Well, that's better than nothing. Get up there! The curtain's going up in less than two minutes!"

Let's see....lighting, check. Props master, check. Sound - I'll take that....am I forgetting anything?

"Okay, Mr Kurosaki!" Tohru smiled reassuringly at the harassed-looking Ichigo before rushing off and starting to scramble up the ladder towards where she needed to be.
It was rather high...she'd just have to not look down more than she had to.

So Kurosaki was the redhead's name. Shido narrowed his eyes at the other man, not especially liking being ordered around, but his eyes softened when he looked towards Tohru. He had a bit of a soft spot for the cooks, mostly because of Giselle.

"I'll give you a hand," he offered, following behind her up the ladder. She looked a little unsteady, which was both exasperating and slightly worrisome.

Ichigo had no problem whatsoever with this guy taking initiative. He left them to work the lights, and started to walk over to the sound booth.

Until a furtive movement in a shadowed corner caught his eye....

"Thanks!" Tohru said to Shido, though she didn't turn her head down towards him. She clambered a bit quicker, partly so as not to hold Shido - or the play - up, and partly because she'd just realized she was climbing a ladder above everyone's heads...in a skirt.

Shido realised her problem about two second after she did, although not before he got a completely unintentional look up her skirt that made him cough in embarrassment and abruptly stare downwards as he climbed. Other men in his position might have enjoyed the view, but Shido was not one of them. Damnit, he hoped she'd scream if she happened to fall. Then he'd still be able to catch her without risking another look upwards.

Tohru heard the cough and blushed scarlet. Oh dear, had he looked? She really should think before climbing ladders, this was bad, this was bad-

Still repeating that in her head, she reached the top of the ladder and flopped onto the platform, grabbed her skirt and wrapped it tightly around her legs, and looked away from Shido, her face burning.

As he reached the top of the ladder he saw her blush and felt one of his own starting to spread despite his best efforts. It wasn't his fault, so why did he feel so damn guilty? He resolved to pretend it never happened and forget about it as soon as possible.

"So how do we work these things?" he asked, trying not to look at her.

Tohru didn't look at him either, focusing her attention on the big spotlight facing the centre of the stage and apparently addressing that as she explained its workings. There were several more lights spread along the length of the platform, covering different parts of the stage, and with coloured gels set out within easy reach.
She was just explaining how those fitted into the lamps when she spotted Kurt coming out on stage.

"Ah! Get the house lights, would you, Mr Fuyuki?" she yelped, waving at a switch at the back of the platform with one hand and using the other get the spotlight focused on the stage.

He'd done his best to follow her explanations, but while Shido wasn't stupid, technology of any kind, even something as simple as a spotlight just tended to baffle him. Pointing and aiming them seemed simple enough, however...

Mr Fuyuki?

"It's just 'Shido'," he corrected Tohru, heading for the switch she'd indicated. The lights around the stage went dark, focusing everyone's attention on the Captain illuminated by the main spotlights. He leaned on the rail, watching the lights and barely listening until Kurt's unexpected bombshell was dropped on audience and crew alike. He stared at Tohru, forgetting their earlier awkardnes in his disbelief. "Did he just...?"

Tohru stared at Kurt. Then she stared at Shido. Then she stared at Kurt again.
"He just..."
She couldn't manage anything more than that, either. This was...not something she could quite process. She stared dumbly at the stage, not taking in anything else Kurt said, and barely noticing he was walking off the stage in time to swing the spotlight over to follow him.

And then the curtain was going up and she managed to fumble the script open and glance at the first page of cues, hardly seeing them, before Watanuki made his entrance. There wasn't anything too complicated to do in this scene - she passed the script mutely over to Shido to look at - which gave her enough free brainpower to take in what had just happened. Sort of.
"Did the Captain...did the Captain say what I think he just said?"

"I think so," Shido replied grimly, taking a look at the script and then at the girl. "He didn't...mention this before, did he?"

He'd wondered if maybe the Captain had made some announcement across the network that Shido had missed - it wouldn't have surprised him, since he tended to neglect his journal - but if that was the case than surely Tohru wouldn't look so stunned.

"I'll take over," he said in a businesslike fashion. "You look like you need to...sit down."

Or something. Comforting was really not what he was good at, but he could take care of the lights until she looked a little less stunned.

"Not that I heard!" Tohru said, her eyes still on the stage. "I don't think I'd have missed something like that, but..."

She was interrupted by Shido's offer, and backed away from the lamp, smiling feebly at him. "Thankyou, Mr Shido."

Pulling her journal out of her pocket, she switched it on and started scanning through the new posts on the network to see if Kurt had said anything.
