Edgeworth clutched a glass (of punch) in his hands, and stood off away from the others. In all honesty, he was not one for parties, and tried to avoid them whenever possible. It was just as well; when it came to most on crew celebrations, his presence would only ruin the mood (which, at times, could be a useful skill). However, he supposed that he could drop in just once. Most of the higher officers were attending, either of their own free will or by force, and it would look awkward if he didn't make some sort of appearance. All he'd have to do was drop in, grab something to drink, and keep an eye on things to make sure the party didn't get too out of control.

He looked around to see who else was already here, and caught a glimpse of young Ffamran. Edgeworth had been wondering about him as of yet; he had not talked much with the boy after he found out about Draklor, mostly due to the chaos they both had to deal with aboard the ship. While he wouldn't dare to get personal out in public like this, he could still find other ways to gauge his mood. As soon as he came closer, Edgeworth nodded to him, and said, "Hello, Bunansa. Enjoying the celebration?"

"Commander Edgeworth!" Ffamran couldn't say he was thrilled to see the First Mate - it was hard to party when the boss was watching after all - but he didn't show that on his face. Truth be told, Edgeworth was one of the few people on the ship that Ffamran could really trust with -- 'things'. He and the Admiral both had been helpful with the trouble with Carol as well as the even more troubling developments at Draklor with Doctor Cid.

"I am at that." He would have to say hello to Ryohei later, otherwise, though he was content to relax for now. His melancholy over everything that had happened since Lunasa was waning in the presence of a party, but it was still there under the surface.

"I'm surprised to see you come up for a party and the Admiral as well. I suppose you don't really have an option when someone like Peony is the one who is dragging you in, though." Prince Peony. He was still staggered by that.

Well, someone sounded surprised. Edgeworth had a bad feeling about his tone, but soon relaxed; there was absolutely nothing to worry about.

His eyes widened slightly when he mentioned von Karma; surely, of all people, he should have escaped Peony's clutches. The expression quickly faded, though, and he took another sip of his drink. "His Majesty is stubborn, to say the least." He accentuated the drawl with a headshake, and added, "Although most of the people here hardly need an excuse for a celebration."

"Peony didn't strike me as particularly stubborn -- although I suppose there's not much room to be stubborn when it comes to shopping." He took another long sip of his drink. Well, Ffamran would keep the assessment in mind the next time he found himself in royal company.

"Well, 'tis so difficult to get a good party going in the first place, I could see why many of them would take to it."

Hell, even he'd been feeling down and in need of a little celebration. "I am certain they will keep their partying to a dull roar. How are you doing today, sir?"

"As fine as can be expected," he replied. The matter of Sho (as well as other things) still weighed on his mind, but there was no need to inform Ffamran of this. "The explosions have ended, the mechanical pests are gone for good, and no fights have broken out amongst the crew. All in all, I'd say this was a peaceful afternoon."

Something about what Ffamran said tugged at his mind, though. "And shopping, you said?" He drank some more of his punch, and said, "I take it you two got a chance to get acquainted beforehand."

"A conversation on sartorial sins ended in a guided tour to some of the best Meliorian shopping -- I quite enjoyed it." He didn't mention the fact that he hadn't known Peony's lineage, that sounded uninformed at best. He thought Major Marquise and Commander Mangde had ...

He frowned slightly. "That was before we were overrun by the little mechanical pests though." He actually hadn't done as much exploration into the topic as he would have liked. "I picked one of the little creatures apart. Although fascinating, I couldn't say too much more about their origins."

Now that was some bad news. Edgeworth hoped that at least Ffamran would know something about those pests, but it seemed he was just as ignorant as everyone else. He frowned, and glared at a bit of wall behind Ffamran's head. "I was hoping to talk to you about that," he admitted, "But not here. That can wait until after the party."

"Not exactly 'happy birthday' fair, I suppose." He took another long sip of the punch which hit him right between the eyes with the effect of alcohol ... someone very juvenile had decided to spike the punch.

"Was there something else on your mind then, Commander?"

Edgeworth didn't exactly seem like the 'socializing' kind. He supposed parties might be the exception, but it didn't seem likely.

Edgeworth paused when he saw the look on Ffamran's face after he drank the punch, but he lost his train of thought as soon as the boy spoke. "No, not at the moment," he said, with a shake of his head. "I think I'll leave you to the celebrations now. Have a good afternoon, Bunansa." While Edgeworth wasn't the most social person, he could still recognize a polite attempt to get away and escape. He would wait around long enough for a reply, and leave quietly.

"Well, have a good time at the party, Commander."

Ffamran enjoyed Edgeworth's company -- sort of, but it was a bit strange to be socializing with him for any stretch of time. Maybe after his promotion it would feel a little less strange.

Promotion. For spying on his dad.

A frown followed very quickly by a large grin crossed Ffamran's face. He gave a little wave and headed off. Perhaps he should find Ryohei ... or someone.
