Miyo was currently working on the other side of the room, running a finger along each roll of gauze as she counted. This she number she then recorded on her own clipboard as she moved onto the next stack. It really was dreadfully dull work. If she had known being a doctor involved such mundane rituals she may have reconsidered her career ambitions. Not that this was her "career ambition" in the first place. Besides, being a doctor did have its perks, like access to certain volatile drugs.

She tapped a container of such drugs lightly, a box of high potency tranquilizers. This country really had too much trust in its medical staff, giving them access to such tools. A simple oath may not be enough of a deterrent.

Miyo peered over at Jade as he pulled over a chair. A pity they were caught up in their tasks. Well, certainly he wouldn't be opposed to a tiny break, would he? Especially were his clipboard to fall and disrupt him momentarily.

Turning back to her stack, she continued along the row, seemingly absorbed in her task, until she bumped against him. "Oh!" she exclaimed in (mock) surprise, "My apologies, Doctor."

Predictably, Jade's clipboard toppled to the floor and he peered up at its assailant with a blandly amused expression. "Not a problem at all, Ms. Takano," he said smoothly, "These are rather cramped quarters."

He seriously doubted the interruption was an accident, but far be it from him to complain about a break, especially considering the instigator. For some inexplicable reason, neither of them had seen much of the other since the zombie incident - perhaps, Jade thought, now was the time to discover why.

"Indeed they are," she said with a bit of a laugh as leaned down to pick up his clipboard.

However, she didn't give it back just yet, instead tapping it against her arm as she leaned lightly against one of the shelves. It was obvious that she didn't intend to go back to work just yet. "I would say we should petition the admiral for a bigger storage room, but we both know how that would go." On the plus side, it would give them a chance to grace the admiral with their presence even more.

[ooc: duuuuur I'm so sorry. Got a lot going o right now and I just remembered "oh shit, thread."]

Jade raised a wry eyebrow and smirked a bit. "Yes - he'd glare and grumble a bit, then simply ignore us." He sighed theatrically and turned in his seat to better face Takano. "Such a surly captain we have~"

[ooc: Ahaha, we're the forgetful team ._. I WON'T FORGET AGAIN, HOPEFULLY.]

"Indeed," she replied, leaning forward just a bit as Jade turned his seat toward her. "We really must make a greater effort to change his sensibilities. It's our duty as doctors to ensure both a healthy body and mind."

Jade shrugged in a dismissive manner. "Though the "healthy mind" part is defined by the government, and not by those of us who actually have to work with others."

Miyo laughed. "That's very true. I can't say those in power are in sound mind themselves." There was a bit of an edge to that statement, though Miyo retained a smile as she continued.

"This really is dull work, isn't it? Pity we're not equipped with a good nursing staff to do this for us. But that would be just one more detail that wouldn't fit into the captain's budget, like the expansion of this supply room."

"I think," Jade said, a sardonic smile flitting across his face, "That it has less to do with budget constraints and more with the Admiral's dislike of an efficiently staffed medical center." He laughed quietly and leaned back. "Goodness knows we might actually get things done, then."

Miyo brought a hand to her mouth in mock surprise. "To think, we might actually be able to complete a physical examination for the admiral!"

Then she laughed again. "I can see how he would be adverse to such a thing. My, he's much like an unruly child, isn't he? It's amazing how something as simple as a doctor's appointment can cause men to regress so strongly."

"Every man has their follies, Ms. Takano." Jade shrugged slightly, lips quirked in amusement and ironic resignation. "Though the Captain's is admittedly bothersome."

"We really must find some way to relieve the captain of his aversion to doctors. But I doubt that will be an easy task." She let an exasperated sigh before smiling.

"Though, I do believe that's quite enough about the captain for now. How about yourself, Doctor? This is the first time we've really been able to spend time together in quite some time, isn't it?" She tapped a finger against her lip, as if this was the first time she had really thought about it. "What a pity! And here I was hoping we would be spending more time together." That was the truth. He was an interesting man, more so than most members of this crew whom she had come to regard as merely her patients. Between him and the captain, she was sure she could find all the entertainment she needed.

Jade's eyebrows rose in mild curiosity, though the curve of his mouth played their motion off as pleasant surprise. "Well, things have been rather busy lately." He shrugged again and crossed one leg over his knee, then leaned back in a marginally more relaxed position. "Though I can't say anything particularly exciting has happened to me during it all."

"Yes, that is most certainly true. My, and I had been expecting a more routine schedule from a military vessel."

Jade seemed to be relaxing more as they continued to talk. Hopefully that meant they wouldn't be returning to their work any time soon (not to mention that she still had his clipboard. Ah, she had almost forgotten. Almost). Surely they could spare a moment for conversation, as long as they didn't get a patient during this time. What a pity that would be. She would have a difficult time feigning compassion.

She gave him a look of surprise, though there was a bit of laughter in her eyes. "Really now? But something must have happened to you in all this time."

Jade shook his head once and tilted it at an inquisitive, yet apologetic angle. "I'm afraid not." He paused for a moment, debating if sharing his next bit of information would be wise. "An old friend of mine came aboard recently, but that's really nothing compared all the rest of the excitement going on here."

"An old friend, you say?" Miyo was honestly shocked. It wasn't that she had envisioned Jade as some sort of recluse, but, well, it still came as a bit of a surprise. She quickly composed herself, but at a moment too late: He had probably already noticed her expression.

Now she put on her usual smile and endeavored to learn more. "Who might this old friend be?" She would certainly have to meet this person~

Jade resisted laughing at Miyo's briefly shocked expression, but still gave her an amused smile. "The prince with all the rappigs - he's a bit difficult to not notice~"
