(
Well he'd had a good sense of direction in the badlands... )
Closing the door to his room, he headed in the direction of the kitchen, and then stopped as he heard someone shouting. Toshirou sighed. He turned to head in the opposite direction, then realized he wasn't exactly sure from which direction the shouting was coming from.
Shit!

"Who the hell builds a maze like this anyway?" he muttered.
Right now, denial that he was useless with any kind of directions was probably the safest state of mind.
Reaching the end of the passage, he turned another corner. He staggered to halt, almost coming face to face with a kid standing in the middle of the corridor.
Or at least, he would have been face to face if he wasn't significantly shorter than Jet.
Unsure how to address someone so young, Jet faltered.
"...I'm looking for the Captain's cabin. I'm a new crew member."
He didn't bother stating any more, the kid probably wouldn't know where it was anyway.

"The Captain's quarters are a few floors up, idiot. Didn't the first mate tell you where to go?" Well, there went his wonderful plan to keep from mouthing off. It was just to easy for him to open his mouth and say the first thing that came to mind. Toshirou sighed, mentally kicking himself.
"It's a little out of my way, but I suppose I could take you there."

Jet considered a more cutting retort, but it wasn't worth the time or confrontation. He'd have to work with these people, not the best start to piss them off.
Though of all the crew to run into, apparently he'd found the least friendly. Not that it mattered, he was here to do a job not to be buddy buddy.
"And no, nobody told me where to go. A guide would be useful though, since you're offerin'."
He held out a gloved right hand, then lowered it to the kid's height. The temptation to make a comment about his size or age was almost overwhelming.
"I'm Jet."
Werner always told him a little politeness could go a long way, time to suspend his skepticism.

Toshirou considered stopping by the kithcens first, as his stomach was making it's hunger known. It rumbled loudly in the silence between the two young men.

"You keepin' wild animals here?" It was hard to stifle a smirk.
"Anyway, lead on, lead on."
He wandered forward, this Toshirou kid would do for now but he'd have to figure this place out. Probably have to work out a map, though next time he'd find a more helpful person to lead him around.

"I'm stopping by the kitchens, then I'll lead you up to the Captain's cabin." He said, not caring if Jet protested at the detour. If the other boy wanted to find someone else to lead him around it was fine by him.
"By the way, what position are you putting in for?" He asked curious to know what skills the other youth had.

Jet hefted the submachine-gun at his side, "Gunner. I was raised with 'em, should put it to some use."
He let the gun drop again, the comfortable rattle of it's barrel against his ammo belt echoing slightly.
"What about you?" He couldn't hold it any longer, he had to ask.
"What's a kid like you do on a ship like this?"

He stopped abruptly and narrowed his eyes at Jet. "Kid?!" Just how old did this guy think he was?
"I'm the helmsman."

Jet couldn't stop himself, like a cat with a thread he was going to unravel this until it all fell apart. Though considering the response, he guessed that the assumption about Toshirou's age was so very wrong.
He hunched over a little, hands in pockets.
"So, you look about ten years old, I'm guessing you're not? Whatever, easy mistake."
Reply
"I'm 18, you moron!" Toshirou snarled up at the taller boy. "How about I mistake your head for a punching bag?!" Okay, clearly trying to remain calm wasn't working. He just wished it wasn't so easy for people to get under his skin and pick on him about his height.

His mind swam with sharp little insults, 'Better lose that chip on your shoulder, it's stunting your growth'. No, no point in starting a fight now.
"Yeah yeah, whatever. I'm pretty sure we both have better things to do than smack each other around."
Jet leant up against a wall, thinking for a moment. He cocked his head towards Toushiro.
"Tell ya what, changed my mind. Just point me the direction of the guns and I'll get to work. Then you can get back to...whatever is you're doing and I'll be alone. I like being alone."
Reply
"Head in that direction, and try not to get lost. I'm better off on my own as well."
