When Joshua spotted Ness out of the corner of his eye, he couldn't stop the grin of silent approval from spreading across his face. Ness would be a little different, he was sure of it, but he thought that maybe, maybe, the change would be good. There was only one way to find out, really.

Turning, he lets a smirk replace his earlier smile. "Glad to see you've returned. Your belongings were starting to collect dust."

It must have been some kind of karma that the first person that Ness would run into would be Joshua. And while Joshua was treating him the same as ever, something between them had changed. Ness just didn't know what.

"Is that all you were worried about?" He asked.

Joshua laughed and took a step towards Ness, the words 'of course not' ready on his tongue though they never leave his mouth. They're only a few of the words he never allowed himself to voice.

Leaning forward, he said quietly, "Do you think I'm a worrywart?"

Ness wasn't surprised that Joshua evaded his question with one of his own. He smiled, because that was probably one thing that would remain constant for a while, if not forever. That was actually kind of comforting. Annoying, but comforting.

"Maybe on the inside," he answered, just as softly.

Joshua wouldn't call his thoughts over the week worry, exactly. Maybe something more like a curiosity to see how Ness' internal battle panned out, even though it wasn't possible for Joshua to have watched.

"Like your demons?" It was an effort not to reach out to make sure Ness was alive even though Joshua already knows he was.

That hit...some kind of note inside of Ness. His fight with himself had been long and difficult and he didn't want to think about that right at that moment.

"Maybe," he answered.

Joshua smiled, maybe a little reassuringly. He could wait a while before he found the details. "I don't forget people." Trust me.

In all honesty, Ness did not think Joshua was the type to forget. But he still wanted the reassurance.

"I didn't think you did."

Joshua took a step back and slipped a hand into his pocket. "What if I lost my memory? What would you do then?"

Now Joshua was just being his usual ridiculous self. To point that out would be useless and lead to more teasing. Ness missed this, but not that much.

"You just said you don't forget, though," Ness answered. "Are you contradicting yourself now?"

"The subconscious never forgets, but the conscious may not be able to recall." Joshua grinned and continued in a casual, conversational tone. "Sometimes that can be from outside circumstances. Like blunt force trauma to the head."

"Then I'd have to figure out some way to remind you then," Ness shrugged. Well, hopefully, Joshua was not planning on losing his memory anytime soon.

"Why don't you remind me now?" Joshua said with a hint of teasing, turning aside. Brushing his hair back and giving it a small flick, he continued, "We live in a world where people talk more of the bad and don't remember the good."

It was human nature to talk of the bad, of course. That's why the news radio broadcasts always reported on what was wrong with the world. Anything good was restricted to the end of the program in brief, one sentence afterthoughts, as if they were trying to close their gloom-filled shows with cheer.

"What's your rush?" Ness asked, moving in close so he could look Joshua in the eye. "Did you miss me that much? I didn't think you were the needy type." But, he smiled and obliged, leaning in and giving Joshua the faintest and briefest of kisses on his lips. "Happy now?"

Joshua grinned. It amused him, hearing teasing words coming from Ness. It was always the people how could tease and expect them to join him in his little play games that he felt more... at ease with. Like he didn't need to explain himself. Hearing the same from Ness only made him feel more relaxed, less uneasy, even when Ness gives him the kiss.

"Is it bad that I want a return on the favour I paid you the first time?" he said with a smile, carefully hiding his want for a little more contact.

"Already?" Ness asked with a fake pout. Really, the second he comes home, Joshua is making demands. Ness himself still didn't quite understand what he liked about the other boy. However, he was content and willing to give in, so without further complaint, he brushed a bit of Joshua's hair to the side and gives him a proper kiss, his hand resting on Joshua's cheek.
