Despite having a stretch of sand in the north and south east of the square, most of this section is dense jungle. (After the bit above in the thread)

Doujuma had let go of the dimwits arm and was trudging doggedly ahead, towards what her compass told her was the southwest. Her eyes were ahead, watching for any other little local nasty that might appear, and in her mind played the mental cadance I hate the BAF. I hate the BAF.

She hated jungles. She hated four-eyed imcompatant partners. She hated people who didn't care if thier crewmates got hurt, even if thier crew mates were layabouts and thier four-eyed imcompatant partners. (She had no delusions about herself or what the crew thought of her) And she hated mosquitos. She slapped one.

Behind her, Four-eyes was pulling a quill out of his backpack. "Where are we going?" he asked. "We've been walking forever." She glanced back at him.

"And we're going to walk a good deal more." She said. Her lecture on obeying officers when there was a crisis would have to wait. She mentally swore. Night was going to fall while they were still out here. Not for a long time, but they had been walking for hours, and if everyone went back to the ship in time to sleep there the crew would never cover the whole island. They were going to have to camp out here. What a mess.

Well at least they hadn't run into any hostile people. Yet.
