the mixed feelings i had before are gone. the first practice with the new drummer was a little awkward, but surprisingly enough, this second time was completely different. i was expecting the same feelings again, but it's was a complete 180. phew... am i relieved. it actually looks like it might work out.
we actually got two songs down and started on a whole new one. things are going really well with fonz. he's a great drummer and is very flexible with the old songs. he takes our suggestions and tries to make them work. we're not drummers, so you can imagine how hard it is to explain what we're looking for. making noises with our mouths, making hand gestures, et cetera. if someone were to tell me how to sing or play my instrument, i don't think i'd be too thrilled about it. but he's been a good sport so far, and i'm happy to know we don't have a guy in the band that's on an ego trip. i'm sure he'll be thrilled to have complete freedom with these new songs that we're writing since we got the older ones out of the way.
more changes might be taking effect soon as we are looking for another guitarist to fill in the gaps. we have one in mind, but we'll see what happens with that. although the music sounds great already, a second guitarist would make a world of difference. we have so many ideas that we need to exercise so we'll be keeping our fingers crossed.
people who are expecting the same style of music as the broken promise, blurring the lines, or in two days time will be surprised how much things have changed with the new line-up. it funny that we are now incorporating a lot of metal riffs in the music. the melodic breakdowns are not used as often as they were before and there are a lot of punk influenced drumming in the newer stuff. the vocal styles are more aggressive, and with chris doing back-up, there's a lot of back and forth singing and screaming which allows another dynamic to come into play. i'm excited as hell, and i hope people out there will embrace the changes. if not, that's cool too.
as far as blurring the lines is concerned, i'm not sure what the fate is for the band right now. ray didn't seem too thrilled about jamming with me anymore. not that he's pissed off at me or anything. maybe he felt it was time for him to move on. i don't know. maybe i've got it all wrong. that's just how it came across to me. i hope that's just the case. anyway, he started jamming with some old friends from what i hear, so i hope everything goes well for him in that project. i can't wait to hear what his new stuff sounds like. i'm sure it'll be awesome.
