Another Windows 8 Post
Since it's been about a month since my last post, it's starting to get buried and I've started noticing new posts from desperate Simmers trying to install the game under the new OS, so I figured I'd post an update and lend a helping hand.
My game still works beautifully... in fact, I might post another post about what I'm doing with my game in general. I downloaded that 100-year-old Pleasantview from Garden of Shadows and I've given everyone 1920s makeovers and am having a blast with the game.
Oh, which brings me to... yes, Virginia, you can run The Sims 2 with CUSTOM CONTENT!!!!! *does the Happy Dance*
Do not believe the outright lies they post on Modthesims. The only reason TS2 will not run in Windows 8 is if you have a 64-bit system, but that is not new information. Mootilda called me a liar today on that board because I said I've been playing TS2 on Windows 8. Why? Because she couldn't get it to work. I did.

Do not throw away your Sims 2 games. They will work fine in Windows 8. In fact, my game is working better than ever with the new operating system. And please do not get discouraged if it takes a while, or if you encounter a setback and have to uninstall an EP and go back a step, or encounter a surly technician at EAxis. I faced all of those things. It took me about a week to get my entire game working. It was well worth the delay.
Points to remember:
1. Move the Downloads, SavedSims, and PackagedLots folders somewhere else when you are installing. You need to install with a clean slate.
2. Don't copy things. Uninstall, reinstall. Start out fresh.
3. Install in the proper sequence and if you use discs, patch after each disc.
4. Always start the game from the same shortcut for the original base game on the desktop. Set the compatibility for XP SP 2. (Use that setting for the patches, too.)
The proper order is:
1. Base or Double Deluxe
2. Uni
3. Open for Business or Best of Business
4. Pets or Fun with Pets
5. Seasons
6. Bon Voyage
7. Freetime
8. Apartment Life
9. Mansions & Gardens
