This month is my seven year anniversary of being on Active Worlds, and the seven year anniversary of when Trevor and I first met online. A day that obviously changed my life forever...because if I hadn't gone there, I would never have met him. And if I hadn't met Jessie, I wouldn't have read the "Otherland" series by Tad Williams, and we never would have gone searching for a virtual online world, and...yeah.
AW was sometimes my escape, my haven, a fun place to piss about and chat with awesome people who had been there for ages, and play games and build anything your imagination could come up with. I have a lot of hilarious and fun memories from there. One of my fave folks from there was a guy nicknamed Optimus Prime. Recently he was a dj for AW Radio, and used to play Weird Al's "Taco Grande" whenever I was around. It became a sort of inside joke with us, and he'd call me Taco Healer and I'd call him Tacomus Prime. His custom Optimus Prime avatar would run round and round the main world in a central location, and he'd say he was "jogging". He was a funny guy, always awesome to talk with.
He had a heart attack at work and died.
Obviously, I didn't know him personally, in real life...but I just felt my stomach drop like an icy stone when Cathrine told me. No matter if it's online or off, when someone I've talked to for seven years is suddenly gone forever, it's...just...awful.
