Utah Ride Report, Part 2

Nov 04, 2008 15:41

so i spent my honeymoon in utah this year. p took all the pictures, she always does. i do not a photographer make, so i just write the words and she does the imagery and this is good. i wrote up our third day at the usual place. for those of you who just want the quickie...
we caught the early morning at dixie national forest. we didn't quite make it here for the sunrise, as we'd planned, but the early morning light was beautiful. it's awfully cold in the mountains at sunrise, so we were sitting back at camp drinking coffee while the sun was actually rising.

the next overlook showed us where we'd be headed for the day... out to Burr Trail, a cattle drover's road that was paved during the uranium prospecting rush of the 1950's. it goes right up to the border of capitol reef national monument.

this is the way i look when i'm bundled up to ride in the cold, but i'm happy because i've had my coffee.

here we are, starting down the burr trail. we actually passed up a road sign that said something to the effect of "Dangerous Road. Proceed at your own risk! Keep hands and arms inside vehicle at all times!" so much for that...

there was some awesome scenery down the road! the colors were breathtaking.

i got "lost" sorta, and so p was left to take a lot of pictures without me. it wasn't so much that i was lost as that i went all the way to The End Of The Road, which was a good 8 miles further on than anyone else thought it was. they only THOUGHT they'd gotten to The End Of The Road.

the cool, shady places were few and far between. but no amount of sitting in the sun could ruin our appetite for pie. this was one of those shady spots where i dallied on the way back to The Beginning Of The Road.

travel and leisure, valkyrie
